Monthly Musings – 11/30/23

Happy Thursday! It’s the last Thursday of the month so I am linking up with Holly and Patty to answer 10 fun seasonal questions. I love thinking about my answers and seeing everyone else’s answers, too!

In January, we talked about beating the winter blues.

In February, we talked about warm weather destinations.

In March, we talked about spring fashion.

In April, we talked all about spring.

In May, we talked about Memorial Day.

In June, we talked about summer fun – vacations, trips, and adventures.

In July, we talked about summer fashion.

In August, we talked about back to school.

In September, we talked about fall and Halloween fun.

In October, we talked about Thanksgiving.

This month we are talking about holidays.

1. Favorite holiday traditions?

Oh, where to begin…

I love Santa on the fire truck in the neighborhood.

I love driving around to see Christmas lights.

I love watching Christmas movies together. We always start with White Christmas on Thanksgiving.

I love the drive through nativity at a local church.

I love Christmas Eve mass at our church with friends and family.

I love our ornament tradition – everyone gets a new ornament on Christmas Eve to commemorate their year.

2. Favorite holiday items or accessories?

My shoes and my jewelry. I have a few pairs of Brooks holiday shoes and they make my feet so happy in December!

My Cora’s Den necklaces and earrings make the holiday season a little sparklier!

I have a few Gray Co. bracelets that are perfect for the holidays!

3. Share your favorite holiday recipes.

I love my buttercream candies!

4. How do you celebrate the holidays?

Our Christmas celebrations start in mid December when we get together with my dad’s family. We haven’t done it in a few years, but are planning to get back to it in 2024.

On Christmas Eve, we get together with Jeff’s family and exchange gifts. We go to afternoon mass at our church with my parents. They come to our house for our yummy roast dinner and spend the night.

On Christmas morning, my parents stay and we open presents. Then they head home. Later in the day Jeff’s parents, my parents, and any of our siblings who would like come over for appetizers.

5. Do you go see holiday lights?

You bet I do! I am always looking for a new light display for us to visit!

6. How do you decorate your house for the holidays?

We have a Christmas mullet – white lights in the front and colored in the back.

I decorate with trees, lights, candles in the windows, and little touches all over.

7. If you get a Christmas tree – is it real or fake?

We do get a tree or 7 and they are all fake. We have our main tree in the family room, a small one in the office, a tall pencil tree in the library, a fake tree out front, and three small trees in our bedrooms.

8. Favorite holiday treats?

Those buttercream candies in number 3.

9. If you have pets, do your pets get and give gifts?

No pets for us!

10. Best tips to make the holidays less stressful?

Write it all down. I know there is no way I will remember anything I need to do. I make more lists this time of year than I do any other time of the year.

Make a plan. This year Jeff and I had a Starbucks date to make our plan and I feel so ready for the holiday season.

Keep moving! I find that moving my body every day keeps me energized and feeling good. It also helps to burn off some stress. I also make a little time for myself. I read every night before bed to relax and keep with my routines. Christmas books always make me happy!

Caffeinate and roll with whatever comes your way. If you are determined to have fun, find some joy, or enjoy the moment, you have a much better chance of doing just that.

Well, that was fun! I am so excited for our December traditions! Ha a great day full of sunshine and books!

I too am always looking for new light displays to visit! And the “Christmas mullet” image made me laugh! I need to remember to get out for a walk every day over the holidays — it really does help alleviate my stress.

The number if Christmas trees in your house is my life goal. And the Christmas mullet is amazing! Business lights in the front, party in the back.

    Thanks for joining us friend!
