Monthly Musings – 9/28/23

Happy Thursday! It’s the last Thursday of the month so I am linking up with Holly and Patty to answer 10 fun seasonal questions. I love thinking about my answers and seeing everyone else’s answers, too!

In January, we talked about beating the winter blues.

In February, we talked about warm weather destinations.

In March, we talked about spring fashion.

In April, we talked all about spring.

In May, we talked about Memorial Day.

In June, we talked about summer fun – vacations, trips, and adventures.

In July, we talked about summer fashion.

In August, we talked about back to school.

This month we are talking about fall and Halloween. I am not in full fall mode since in only just began. Maybe answering these questions will get my fall mojo going.

1. Favorite fall traditions

High school football games

Going back to James Madison University 💜💛

Trick-or-treating

Girls’ weekend

Watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

2. How do you celebrate Halloween?

With all the candy!! Our neighborhood usually goes all out with decorations starting October 1st. We trick-or-treat and our neighborhood does it well. The houses are close enough together that it’s easy to get a lot of candy in a quick trip. I love to see all the neighbors out and about. I am a little worried that the boys are going to want to trick-or-treat alone this year. They are old enough and responsible enough, but I’ll be sad to end that tradition.

3. Favorite fall recipes? Please share links.

We love Mississippi Pot Roast. I typically reduce the butter by at least half and don’t include the peppercinis.

I love chili in the crockpot and we usually have it for Halloween.

2 lbs ground beef or ground chicken cooked with taco seasoning, 1-2 cans of diced tomatoes, 2 cans of Rotel, 2 cans of black beans drained and rinsed, and 2 small packages of frozen super sweet corn cooked. Throw it in the crockpot for the day and enjoy!

I tend to grill through the fall before it gets too cold to ask Jeff to stand outside for that long.

4. Favorite fall fashion pieces

I love a vest in the fall. They’re perfect for when it’s not too cold yet.

I love my jeans in the fall. Last year I took a few pairs to the tailor and had them hemmed to my ideal length. I am so excited to wear them again and again this fall. It was pretty inexpensive and totally worth it.

I have these suede loafers that are so cute. I didn’t wear them nearly enough last fall so I am going to make sure they are a big part of my fall wardrobe this year.

I love a hoodie in the fall.

My Halloween and fall jewelry is always a favorite!

5. How do you decorate for fall?

I decorate for Halloween and fall. I think this is what I use to decorate, but I haven’t gotten anything my fall tubs out yet. I have pumpkins, including these cuties I just got at Trader Joe’s,

sugar skulls planters, my BOO letters,

cute wreaths my mom made, fall smelling candles in my pumpkin candle holder, pumpkin votives, my triple light up pumpkins, mums, and real pumpkins on the front porch

6. Pumpkin spice – oh yeah or over it?

Nope, absolutely not! I don’t like pumpkin flavored anything! I even struggle with spaghetti squash because I think it smells like pumpkin.

7. Thoughts on candy corn?

I love it when it is fresh!

8. Favorite fall/Halloween movie?

I have two Halloween movies, but I think I have any fall specific movies. I think Hocus Pocus is so fun. I will always love The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.

9. Apple pie, pumpkin pie, or cider donut?

None of these. I prefer to have fall treats in the form of Halloween candy, specifically Reese’s pumpkins.

10. Bonfire, hayride, or haunted house?

Definitely not a bonfire! I don’t mind a hayride but it’s not my favorite. I am not a fan of haunted houses either. They give me nightmares!

That was fun! I am planning to get my fall tubs out of the shed this weekend. Our front porch is covered, but we’ll still wait a while to get pumpkins so they don’t rot. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I don’t think I’ve seen a football game of any kind since I was in high school! Pumpkin Reece’s are the best. But I have never had (or seen or heard of) fresh candy corn- I bet that tastes way better than the store bought stuff.
