Monthly Musings – 9/26/24

Happy Thursday! It’s the last Thursday of the month so I am linking up with Holly and Patty to answer 10 fun seasonal questions. I love thinking about my answers and seeing everyone else’s answers, too!

In January, we talked about winter self-care.

In February, we are talked about surviving the winter months.

In March, we talked about spring fashion.

In April, we talked about all things spring.

In May, we talked about getting ready for summer.

In June, we talked about summer travel and traditions.

In July, we talked about summer fashion and fun.

This month we are talking about back to school routines, recipes, and fall fashion.

1. What are you best tips for getting into a fall/back to school routine?

My number one tip is to make a routine. Even if you aren’t sure how it is going to go, establish some sort of routine so everyone knows what to expect. I tend to set a lot of reminder alarms on my watch, phone, and Alexa to make sure I am doing things when they need to be done. I make lists for myself and the kids to help adjust to a new routine. I made this one for Luke when he was going to be home alone in the morning before school for a little bit.

2. Please share your favorite fall recipes. Crowd/family pleasers welcome.

I love to use my crockpot once the fall weather gets cooler. I tend to make this pot roast and chili the most.

3. Favorite fall fashion staples?

Cardigans and loafers. I love my cardigans all year long, but they are a fall staple for me so I can keep wearing my summery clothes a little longer.

When I finally commit to pants, I love loafers. I got a pair from Aerosoles last year and love them! These are similar.

4. Favorite part of back to school this year?

We’ve had more family dinners this year than I was anticipating and I am loving it.

Our weekends have been less committed and it has been great. Don’t get me wrong, we are filling them up, but there are less must do’s and more want to’s.

5. Do you celebrate homecoming where you are?

We do! Our local high school’s homecoming is fun to celebrate. They have a float display and hand out candy to elementary and middle school kids, then a parade before the football game on Friday night.

Jack had a great time at homecoming last year. They have a spirit week, an alumni tailgate, the football game Friday night, and a dance on Saturday. He can’t go this year because we will be of town, but I am sure he’ll go next year!

6. Apple pie or apple cider?

Apple cider, for sure. Jack and I went to the grocery store on Sunday and he convinced me to get a gallon. Everyone at my house loves it!

7. Do leaves change color where you live? If so, when?

They sure do! They are starting to change now, but we will still have some green leaves for a while.

8. Favorite fall sweet treat? Any recipes to share?

It’s not really a fall treat, but I love chocolate peanut butter squares. I think of them as fall because my mom makes them for my birthday every year.

9. Hayride or bonfire?

No thank you! I do not like a fire ever. I feel like my hair smells like fire forever and I cannot shake the smell. I don’t prefer a hayride, but if I have to pick one it’s the hayride.

10. Movies that give you all the back to school feels?

Hmmmm, I’m not really a movie watcher. I don’t have a back to school movie but I can’t wait to hear what everyone else says!

Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I immediately thought of the movie School Ties when I read that last question. We love apple pie and apple cider equally though we definitely have cider more often since I only make so many pies each season.

My fall fashion staple is a cardigan too. My high school used to have a parade which was fun. We don’t do that here but last week was spirit week , football game and hadley went to the dance.
