Let’s Look – 9/13/23

Happy Wednesday! This is one of my favorite linkups of the month because I am so curious about how other people do things. I try to find great systems for organizing, planning, and creating routines but I know there is always room for improvement.

Linking up with Erika and Shay

In January, we talked about scheduling and organizing a busy family.

In February, we talked about our medicine cabinets.

In March, we are talking about our all time favorite Amazon finds.

I shared a quick pet peeve in April.

In May, I shared my morning routine.

In July, I shared my favorite new summer finds.

In August, I shared my worst habits.

This month I am sharing my evening routine. My evening routine is ok, but I think it could use some tightening up. I can’t wait to see what other people post as part of their routine for some suggestions.

Though it isn’t necessarily evening, when I get home from school I get started on the evening things. I start dinner and get some things ready for the kids’ lunches.

For the evening, I usually make dinner and we sit at the table to eat. We don’t always sit together, but there are at least two people at the table for dinner most nights.

After dinner, and sometimes before, I am driving the boys to or from a practice or game. It usually involves a walk and sitting in the car reading.

When we get home from practices it is a race to bed. The boys unpack and repack any bags they need for the next day. They grab a snack while I do a kitchen reset. When everyone is done eating, I start the dishwasher and we all head upstairs.

If you’ve been reading for a few months, it is not lost on me that I GET to start a dishwasher. I did not love doing dishes for all those months and I do love my new dishwasher.

The boys are old enough to take care of their bedtime routine. While they do that, I change into my pjs, take out my contacts, wash my face, and brush my teeth. Then I get in bed to finish my evening.

Sometimes I finish a blog post, like I did last night.

We usually have the tv on for a bit and I read on my kindle until I fall asleep. I love to read on my kindle at night because I can make the font big enough to read without my glasses and I don’t lose my page when I fall asleep.

My goal is to be in bed by 9:30 and asleep around 10. I haven’t been falling asleep until at least 10:30 lately, but hopefully that will creep back to 10 soon. In a perfect world I would be in bed by 8:30 and asleep by 9:15, but that isn’t happening any time soon.

I am not very productive once we get to dinner. I can’t wait to see other people’s evening routine for some ideas to increase that aspect of the day. I’ll be back Friday with some of my favorites from the week. I hope you’ll be back! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I’m not very productive once dinner is over either; thankfully my kids have never really had activities in the evening that I’ve had to worry about since once it gets dark I am all about my pj’s and just watching TV.

I agree with the Kindle! Plus, my husband likes to have a dark room to sleep in so no longer having a book light or light next to our bed is helpful to him. I am with you, Sister, on the dishwasher 🙂 Our last one was terrible, but they are expensive to replace. We finally bit the bullet about two weeks ago and I am still grateful every single time I unload it that my dishes are clean. Thank you for sharing your evening routine! I miss the days of practices, family dinners, and evening games…but it has freed up my time to play more tennis, so that is a positive 🙂
