Declare It Day 2023

Happy Monday! I’m here with Holly sharing some fun from a few weeks ago. I hope you’ll link up with us for Hello Monday!

I’ve been celebrating Declare It Day since 2016! Declare It Day is a goal setting celebration with Fellow Flowers. It is always the first Saturday of February. This year my schedule didn’t work on Saturday, so I hosted a few girlfriends on Sunday. We had a great time and set some good goals! Before we get to this year’s celebration, I love looking back at my past Declare It Days.

In 2016, Jamie and I went for a run and then headed home to set our goals.

In 2017, I hosted brunch for Jamie and Sarah. We forgot to take a picture until they left, but we exercised, ate a yummy breakfast, and declared our goals!

In 2018, we got gutsy! I had rock star flowers for everyone and we set some great goals.

In 2019, I moved the celebration to the evening. We focused on progress and I shared one of my favorite Fellow Flowers prints. I have that resilient print hanging in my bathroom and read it every single day!

In 2020, we focused on what we were brave enough to do. Little did we know what was coming our way in about 6 short weeks.

In 2021, we kept the tradition going even if we were freezing cold outside and masked.

In 2022, we did celebrated our goals with an Olympic theme.

This year, I invited the girls over for a lunch. It turned out to be a lovely afternoon! I lost my voice a few days before so I changed the menu last minute. I didn’t want to do too much touching of the food so it was Trader Joe’s to the rescue. We had soup, salad, bread, and a variety of desserts. I didn’t take any pictures of the food, but I do have the specifics for you.

About 25 minutes before the girls were arriving, our dishwasher started leaking all over the kitchen floor and down into the basement. Jeff and I turned it off, pulled it out, and tried to figure out what was going on. We called our amazing neighbor and he popped right over. He declared the dishwasher dead. There was nothing we could do about it right then so it was on with Declare It Day!

The girls and I headed out for a great walk. The weather was great and I walked off quite a bit of dishwasher frustration. When we got home, we sat down to a yummy lunch and declared our goals. I usually have a folder that matches our theme or is inspirational for the girls. This year, I decided to give everyone a clipboard. I got to thinking about folders. They’re always pretty but they hide the insides. I wanted our goals to be front and center this year. I think we are more likely to achieve a goal when we see it more.

I set a running goal again this year, even though I didn’t achieve my goal last year. I want to run a half marathon this year. I’m starting to get a little itch to run a marathon in the next few years and a half marathon is a good place to start. I haven’t started training, but I will when I pick up my new insoles next month.

I also set a lifestyle goal. This may seem a little silly, but I set a goal to sit down and relax for 30 minutes a week. I am going to watch tv or read without doing anything else. I do read a bunch, but it’s often while we’re driving somewhere or right before bed. I want to carve out 30 minutes a week without anything else. We are two weeks in and I’m at 50%. I’ll keep trying.

I love setting goals. I love hanging out with friends. I love yummy lunch. This was a great day full of all three!

We don’t have school today and I’m working on my to do list and my February goals. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

Love your declarations and what you said about the clipboard! Deep thoughts and I agree. I love a clipboard! I love how you walked off the dishwasher frustration – so smart – and the Trader Joe’s lunch is such a great idea. You do need at least 30 minutes a day and I think you will really benefit. We need to stop multitasking so much and stop chasing productivity! Who told us we had to be so productive! Enjoy your day off!

That’s a bummer about the dishwasher. I did chuckle that your neighbor “declared it dead.” Love your goals. I can usually carve out some “relaxing” time most days, but I also end up multitasking in my phone. It’s rare for me just to sit and watch a show…without also reading an email, uploading photos to a blog post, etc. I need to quiet my mind a bit more.
