Hello Monday – 7/18/22

Happy Monday! I’m here with Holly sharing some fun from our recent trip to Atlanta. I hope you’ll link up with us for Hello Monday!

I took a ton of pictures so I am going to break it up into a few posts so you aren’t drowning in photos. We packed a lot into three days and had a great time! We stayed with my sister Annie and her husband Zach. They just moved into a new house and it was great to see them and their house.

We got up on Monday morning at 3:45 and headed to the airport. Our flight was at 6:15 am. I am all for taking the first flight out of town. When you fly out that early you get a full day in your destination and that flight is less likely to be delayed or canceled.

We landed in Atlanta and walked through the terminal. I don’t usually take the plane train between terminals because there are some neat things in the Atlanta airport. We picked up our car and headed to Zoo Atlanta.

A few years ago, the boys and I listened to The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. At the end of the book, there is a note that the real Ivan lives at Zoo Atlanta. When I was planning our trip, I was sure to include a trip to the zoo to see Ivan. When we got there, we found out that Ivan died 10 years ago. Oops! I guess I should’ve done a little research on that. The gorillas were still amazing, even without Ivan!

The zoo had a really cool Lego installation. Sean Kennedy created huge Lego animals and they were stationed all around. Luke LOVED it! It was pretty amazing to see all those Lego animals.

After a few hours at the zoo, we headed to Annie’s.

They made us a great dinner and both boys have requested it at home! I was excited to have dinner with Maggie in person.

We taught the Jack and Luke how to play hearts. I feel like summer vacations are perfect for card games!

Jack read Maggie her bedtime stories. We weren’t far behind Maggie going to bed after our early morning!

On Tuesday morning, we got up and hung out with Annie and Maggie for a while. Then we loaded up and headed into the city for the day. I was so excited to head to the Georgia Aquarium! I remember when the aquarium opened in 2005 and the Today show was there. I have been waiting to visit since then! I looked into swimming with the whale sharks and I am telling myself that I will swim with them one day. I could’ve stared at that tank all day!

The Georgia Aquarium exhibits were really neat. They had big tanks with huge viewing windows. Many of the tanks went over your head or had tunnels that you could crawl through and pop up in the the water. My pictures don’t really do the animals or exhibits justice. We got to see tons of animals in the aquarium – beluga whales, sea lions, sharks, whale sharks, manta rays, sea turtles, stingrays, and tons of tropical fish.

Ok, that’s enough for today! I’ll share the rest of our trip tomorrow, so be sure to come back to see the fun! We had a week packed full of fun and I am sharing it this week. If you blogged today, link up with us below! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

That sounds like a great trip and I LOVE the pics! When our children were small we always left super early whether driving or flying. If driving, the kids went back to sleep and it helped them with not being so weary of a long drive.

Oh that does sound like so much fun! I am a huge fan of zoos and aquariums. We like to try and take the first flight out in the morning too.
