Monthly Musings – 5/29/24

Happy Thursday! It’s the last Thursday of the month so I am linking up with Holly and Patty to answer 10 fun seasonal questions. I love thinking about my answers and seeing everyone else’s answers, too!

In January, we talked about winter self-care.

In February, we are talked about surviving the winter months.

In March, we talked about spring fashion.

In April, we talked about all things spring.

This month we are talking about getting ready for summer and Memorial Day.

1. What are you looking forward to this summer?

EVERYTHING! I am looking forward to waking up to the sun shining in our room instead of an alarm.

I am looking forward to summer swim team.

I am looking forward to putting my toes in the sand, finally! It has been a long almost 4 months!

I am looking forward to all that time at the pool. Especially now that we have a great new lifeguard!

I am looking forward to reading all the summer books!

I can’t believe I am saying this, but I am looking forward to a rainy summer day at home to relax and get some things done.

I am looking forward to eating breakfast and dinner on the deck.

2. Favorite summer traditions?

We always get snowballs a few times in the summer.

We always do the summer reading program at our library. Did you know that adults can participate, too?

I hope we can make it to a baseball game this summer, but we might not go until the fall.

I love a summer concert and have a few planned.

3. Favorite summer recipe? Please share!

In the summer, I love grilled chicken, steamed crabs, corn on the cob, and all the fresh fruits and veggies. I don’t really have a “summer” recipe to share. I can’t wait to see what everyone else is sharing!

4. Summer vacation plans?

We have a beach trip planned with Jeff’s family. We are staying somewhere new and I am excited about it.

Jeff and I are going to the beach for a concert and a quick overnight.

We are going to North Carolina with my family.

I am hoping the four of us can get to a beach for a little bit.

I have a few day trips that I would like to take.

5. Coleslaw or potato salad? Recipe to share?

Potato salad for sure! I do not eat coleslaw! I don’t have a recipe to share, but I do have a funny potato salad story. I moved to Charlotte, NC right after Jeff and I started dating. The first time he came to visit, I decided I was going to make a delicious dinner for him. The menu was grilled chicken, grilled brocolli, and red skin potato salad. The chicken and brocolli were great! I had a little timing with the potatoes and ended up serving him “crunchy potato salad”. The potatoes were nowhere near done, but he ate them without complaining. Young love! We do still laugh about it over 20 years later. Needless to say, I do not have a recipe to share. Ha!

6. Favorite ice cream or frozen treat?

I love snowballs. My favorite flavors are lime and pink lemonade. My favorite ice cream treat is a chipwich. My absolute favorite frozen treat is a mint chocolate chip sundae from Hoffman’s, our local ice cream store. It’s the absolute best!

7. Favorite summer beverage?

I love a key lime crush. I shared the recipe years ago and it is one of my most popular blog posts of all time.

I enjoy a crisp, dry, ice cold glass (or two) of white wine. I am excited to try a vino verde wine this summer. Apparently it is the summer wine of Portugal!

I love Naturdays beers in the summer. They are so refreshing and tasty when it is hot out.

I always start my day with ice cold water and an ice cold diet Pepsi.

8. Beach, lake, or mountains?

Beach. It is my favorite and I will always choose the beach.

9. Best ways to beat the heat in summer?

We go to the pool most days.

I try to get out and walk or run pretty early in the morning to avoid the hottest part of the day. An added bonus to that is that I am usually treated to a beautiful sunrise. Jeff and I like to go on evening walks when it’s not quite as hot. Sometimes we can catch a gorgeous sunset then.

I always have an ice cold drink in a Swig. My Swig is always full of ice now that we have a nugget ice maker.

10. Favorite sunscreen?

I loved the Hint pineapple sunscreen, but I haven’t seen it lately. We usually use the Neutrogena Beach Defense spray and stick or Sunbum spray sunscreen. I love the Sunbum tinted lip sunscreens.

Well that was fun and now I REALLY can’t wait for summer!! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

Oh yes! I am ready for summer. It sounds like you have a really fun summer planned. Our library often runs an adult summer reading program right alongside the kids’ one and we can get our names entered into raffles to win local, small business gift cards.

If there was ever a blog topic for you, this is it!
    Summer Sarah. Haha
    Love the potato salad story.
We have Kona ice and the kids love getting some when we see the truck. I will get a snowball too.

I often like a rainy day when I don’t have to leave the house too! I am glad you shared that key lime drink and want to make it this summer. I am a fan of all things key lime and think I missed your original post.

  4. Tanya says:

I love the beach too, although our Texas beaches are not the prettiest or cleanest! It took me a minute to figure out what snowballs were…we call them snowcones here!

  5. Joyce says:

I try to walk early early here too, otherwise you literally melt. We bought paddleboards so I think we’ll do more of that the next couple of months. I do love the beach but we live on a lake and don’t like to leave in the summer months. It’s the most fun! I do love a beach trip around February. Happy summer to you!
