Monthly Musings – 4/28/22

Happy Thursday! I am excited to link up with Holly and Patty today for Monthly Musings. This is a post where we answer 10 fun questions on the last Thursday of the month.

In January, we talked about love and Valentine’s Day.

In February, we talked about spring fashion and transitioning wardrobes.

In March, we talked about spring and Easter.

This month we are talking about vacation planning, which is perfect because I’m focusing on/struggling with that right now!

1. What trips/vacations do you have planned for the rest of the year?

Here’s what we have planned so far:

  • Mexico
  • New York City
  • Washington DC day trip
  • Beach
  • Williamsburg, VA
  • JMU football game

2. Best packing tips?

Lists, lists, lists!! I make so many lists before we go anywhere. I start with the plans for the trip. Then, I make a clothing list for the kids and myself. I make a good/snack list. I make a non-clothing list of things to pack (beach chairs, etc.). My best packing tip that I rarely follow is pack 2-3 days before you go. It helps me remember things I use as I go through my daily routines. Maybe I’ll get better at following that one this summer! 🤞🏼

3. Packing cubes – yes or no?

Absolutely!! We use these. Everyone has their own color. I also have a Lilly set from my sister. They’ve revolutionized our packing and make it so much easier to keep clothes organized. The boys don’t usually need all of theirs so I pack an empty one to collect their dirty laundry.

4. Favorite travel outfits?

5. Favorite vacation destination and why? Share photos!

6. Have you flown since March 2020?

You bet I have!! I went to visit my sister in May 2021.

We flew to Florida last month.

7. Beach or mountains for vacation?

8. Do you prefer to sightsee or relax on vacation?

9. Hotel, camping, or Airbnb?

WE. DO. NOT. CAMP!!! Let me repeat it so there is no confusion. WE. DO. NOT. CAMP!!! 😂

I’ll do Airbnb or hotels. If we are going as a family for an extended stay (more than a weekend), I prefer an Airbnb. It’s easier to have breakfast and snacks. I also love that the boys can have separate beds in most Airbnbs so they are better rested and cheerful.

I think a hotel is a real treat because I love fresh towels and sheets every day. It’s so nice to come back to a clean room every night.

10. Overpacker or underpacker?

I am an overpacker. I try so hard not to, but I just can’t do it. This is so me. 😂

I try to pack outfits for my kids by day so I don’t overpack too much. But they always end up with a few extra outfits.

Oh, you have so much fun travel planned this year! And I love how many people here don’t camp. I’ve always felt like we should be a camping family but we just aren’t.

When packing for our family of four, I put a “coordinating/not matching” outfit out each day and evening for all of us. I like to take pictures and prefer that we look cohesive. I know it sounds over the top but it helps to not overpack and make sure we use all the clothing we bring.

My husband often jokes I need a list for all of my lists; especially when we’re getting ready for vacation. I do pack a few days ahead of time but have still managed to forget things anyway.
