Happy Wednesday! I am joining Joyce for a quick hodgepodge of questions. These five questions are going to be fun, so let’s get to it!
1. ‘The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.’ How does this saying ring true in your own family, either the one you grew up in or the one you made? Oh boy, this one is so true! As a mom, I find myself saying and doing things my mom did all the time! I like to host parties like my mom. I try to channel my dad’s calm when I am parenting. He still is always so calm when I mess up or need help, and I want to do that too. Both of my parents worked when I was in school, but they always did their best to make sure they attended all of our events and I try to do that, too.
I learned that my apple fell very far from the tree when it comes to spaghetti sauce this week. I am happy to put room temperature spaghetti sauce on hot noodles. Jeff, Jack, and Luke think it’s absolutely awful. When we were at dinner with my parents, my mom confirmed that it is awful and she would NEVER serve that. We got a good laugh out of how appalled everyone was by my room temperature sauce. I do not care about that!
2. Something you’re nuts about these days? How about something that’s driving you nuts? I have been nuts about Kathryn Robnett’s bracelets for a while now and I am not slowing down. She is a sweet creator from Texas that has fun colorful beaded bracelets. She is so easy to work with and has made a few custom bracelets for me, too. I love accessories and I am nuts for her bracelets.
3. What does abundance mean to you? To me abundance means more than enough. I feel so blessed to have an abundance of many things – love, friends, sneakers, Lilly – and work hard to instill in my boys that when we have more than enough we share or give to those who do not. I do not want them to grow up thinking that we need more, more, more and do not consider people who may need.
4. Caramel apple-caramel cake-caramel corn-caramel sundae-caramel macchiatto…what’s your caramel treat of choice? None of these. I do not like caramel at all. No, thank you!
5. What’s a childhood memory that always comes to mind as the leaves start to fall? (Oops, I just realized that this has nothing to do with the leaves falling, but it’s a favorite fall memory so I am going with it.) The town I grew up in has a carnival called Fall Fest. It was always in the park behind my parents’ house and fell on or around my birthday most years. I had my party there a few times. As a kid, I loved it! The rides, the friends, the closeness to our house – so great! As an adult, I am not a carnival fan and am extra thankful to my mom and dad for putting up with it and letting us go so much. When the carnival comes to our town, I usually drive the long way out of town so that my kids don’t even see it. Ha!
6. Insert your own random thought here. We added a new driver at our house yesterday! Jack passed his driving test and is pretty excited. I am too, but I am already ready to start that “my kid is driving” worrying.

I am so much like my mom; we often even come out with the same expression at the same time! Those driving worries do diminish over time. I remember being so worried those first few times they took the car but each time they came home again in one piece the fear lessened just a little bit. Mine ramped up a bit again this year when Alec took the car to school since he had never driven in the city before and Providence is NOT a fun city to drive in at all but it sounds like he mostly uses the car to get to work and to get groceries; both of which are in the opposite direction of the city.
The room temp spaghetti story…so funny! It’s funny what kids have opinions about. Haha

Yeah! Congrats to Jack! What a great milestone. I can’t believe we differ on something- I am obsessed about caramel. Also I am 100% Italian and I don’t think room temp sauce is bad at all!
I don’t think I would be a fan of the room temperature spaghetti sauce on hot noodles. It did make me chuckle though.
Those bracelets are so pretty, I really like the pink one’s.

Congrats to Jack…this is a big deal when you are young,. So I’m guessing no Werther’s for you? all caramel. I do like caramel as in one slice of caramel pie, but a little goes a long way for me..
Congratulations to your new driver. I will say I found kids driving to be one of the more stressful parts of parenting, but we all learn right? I think the problem is newly licensed drivers think they’re excellent at driving and we all know it takes time to become excellent. I’m fussy about my spaghetti sauce but if you served it to me room temp I would eat it and say thank you anyway. Have a great day!
