Wednesday Hodgepodge – 6/18/25

Happy Wednesday! I am joining Joyce for a quick hodgepodge of questions. It is all about summer today and I am ready for it. I am officially finished at work and ready to embrace all that summer has to offer. These five questions are going to be fun, so let’s get to it!

1. Summer officially begins this week (in the northern hemisphere)…what was your favorite thing to do in the summer when you were a kid? What do you like most about summer now? I love the memories of beach trips and fun pool days as a kid. My mom was a teacher and off in the summer so many of our days consisted of swim team practice and hanging at the pool with our friends all afternoon. Sound familiar? I love doing just that with my summer days, too! I love the freedom and flexibility that our summer schedule allows for. We can take day trips, pop to the beach for a few days, stay up late, sleep in a bit, hang at the pool, or hang at home.

2.  Something you’ll celebrate this summer? We’ll celebrate the 4th of July, a couple of birthdays, and 7-11 Slurpee day.

3. Summer tastes like? Smells like? Sounds like?
Summer tastes like fresh fruit, snowballs and ice cream, food on the grill, and steamed crabs.
Summer smells like chlorine, grills and ocean water.
Summer sounds like splashing in pools, outdoor concerts, kids playing outside long after it is dark.

4. June 18th is National Splurge Day…what’s the last thing you splurged on? What might you splurge on today? Hmmm, I haven’t really splurged on much lately. Actually, I did buy a few new Swigs last week. I definitely didn’t NEED them, but I sure do love them! I love the party cups and got a sunshine cup, a book cup, and a pink/orange cup. Perfect for summertime! I don’t think I’ll splurge on anything today.

5. Share a favorite summer quote, saying, song lyric, or meme. My summer soundtrack is mostly a mix of Jimmy Buffett, The Wheeland Brothers, and Micheal Franti. Their songs just feel like summer to me. I keep this quote hanging on our kitchen bulletin board all the time and it’s a great way to remember the summer feeling all year long.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I am off to the pool for swim team practice in a few minutes and then I am not sure what our summer day is going to hold. It’s going to be warm but cloudy, so we’ll see. I do have a few books I need to finish reading in the next day or two so I can return them to the library. That is exactly what I love about summer!

That was fun! I can’t wait to see what everyone else answered! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

What wonderful memories of summer! I do love the later nights and sleeping in a little during the summer break.
I love the sound of the cups that you have!

I am still kicking myself for not buying the adorable Swigg cup I found in Kentucky (I’ve looked online and can’t find the same one!). I talked myself out of that splurge but it really would have been a perfect souvenir. I like Zac Brown band for summer too as well as Buffet and the Beach Boys for summer sounds.

My mom was a teacher too – so we had lots of fun together in the summer. I hope my kids can say the same for me when they look back on their childhood.
I always forget about 7-11 day…until you share. So fun!

I’m going to put an alert on my phone for slurpee day. I used to love taking my girls when they were growing up. We spent most of our summer days at the pool too and I still love being by water every day in the summer months. Now it’s mostly the lake, but we have a neighborhood pool we also visit pretty regularly as I prefer to swim my laps there. I like touching a wall and knowing how far I’ve gone-it’s motivating. Have a great summer!

Jimmy Buffet was a great summer musician! The smell of chlorine, grilling out and outdoor concerts are such good answers to summer things. Hope your week is going well!
