Friday Favorites – 1/17/25

Happy Friday! I was planning on working a full five day week this week, but ended up taking off on Thursday for a doctor’s appointment that got rescheduled. My next five day week is looking like it will be in February. We have Monday off for MLK day and the next Monday is a work from home teacher work day. I have some favorites for you so let’s get to it!

Linking up with Erika and Andrea

Favorite 1: PERCUSSION! Luke was asked to play at the school orchestra concert on Wednesday night. He played the tambourine, the sleigh bells, and the cymbal. Did you know that I consider myself a semi-professional tambourine player? After college, I moved to Charlotte and there were so many bands with live music on the weekends. As the evening went on, I often found myself playing tambourine on stage with the bands. It was quite a year of fun! We even incorporated the tambourines into our wedding!!

Favorite 2: ROUTINE!! While I didn’t end up working all five days this week, it did feel good to get back into some semblance of a routine. We all got up at regular time, came home at regular time, went to practices, and ate dinner like we normally do. When I taught my Monday and Tuesday classes, I realized that I hadn’t seen them since December 16th and December 17th. That is a very long time in a kindergartener’s world! I definitely spent some time going over library routines, but it was so good to see everyone!

Favorite 3: SWEATERS!! It has been so cold this week and I am leaning into my warmest sweaters and outfits. I am also bracing/planning warm outfits for next week when the forecasted high is 16 degrees! I love a fair isle pattern and sweater!

I ordered a pair of wide leg pants this week and I am not so sure about them. They feel very wide and have me wondering if I am more of a bootcut girl than a wide leg girl. The pants are very comfortable, but we’ll see if I keep them.

Favorite 4: BOOKS! I have been reading a bunch this week. I finished my audio book on Monday, Luke and I have been listening to our audio book a bunch, I read before bed, and I’m reading when I wake up in the middle of the night and in the morning. I am reading one last Christmas book right now, but I think I’ll finish it soon. Reading brings me so much joy and books are always a favorite!

Favorite 5: EXERCISE! I have been making time for exercise every day and I can feel it! Of course my muscles are feeling sore, but I can feel it more in my stress management and resilience. I’m not sure how I got off track or how I forgot how good exercise is, but I sure am glad I remembered!

Favorite 6: NEW YEAR! I love this new year energy! I am exercising, meal planning, and doing regular grocery pickup. My pantry, fridge, and freezer are stocked. I love the feeling of being prepared and ready for any bumps to come my way. I feel like I am on my A game. That is one thing I love about being a teacher is there are two opportunities to have a new start or a refresh. September to get back on track after Summer Sarah’s been in charge for a while and January to refresh after the holiday season and a break from school.

The kids have a swim meet this weekend and I am volunteering for one of the sessions, so I will get some reading done but not as much as usual. I am excited that my lifelong swimming friend’s son is swimming, too. I love meets with Jamie! I have a few last Christmas decorations that I need to put away and I am planning to get that done before we go back to school on Tuesday. Have a great weekend full of sunshine and books!

Such a great week of favorites! It sounds like you really hit the ground running with back to school and all your goals. I can’t resist a good fair isle pattern either!

Love your sweaters. I know what you mean about routine – we were dragging our feet yesterday, but it was nice to get back into a routine! Even with our time off, I’m still looking forward to a three day weekend:)

It does sound like a lot of fun playing the tambourine with the bands.
I am loving being back into a routine too. It makes my life much easier and I am happier for it. I have the New Year energy too, I just hope it lasts until the end of January then I feel like I can carry it on for the rest of the year!
