Happy Wednesday! It’s the first Wednesday of the month and I am linking up with Jennifer to share five things I am currently doing. Each month we share five different things and I think it’s a fun way to think about what’s going on.

I am loving…
Positive peer pressure! A few of the kids at Jack’s lunch table have decided to make their lunches healthier. I admit that my kids’ lunches have more “snacks” than I thought they would. They eat healthier breakfasts and dinners, so I’ve let them take charge of the lunch menu. Jack is packing grilled/baked chicken, brown rice, brocolli, and fruit. He eats lunch after 1 o’clock and says this keeps him full until he gets home for dinner around 7.
Midweek grocery pickup! I mentioned this a few months ago, but I am still meal planning on the weekends and doing my grocery pickup on Wednesday or Thursday. I love having a fully stocked kitchen going into the weekend. I’ve been planning lunches for the weekend so there are always options and I am less likely to get lunch out. There are way less substitutions on Wednesday than the weekends, which is a big bonus!
I am looking forward to…

The pool opens in 24 days! I cannot wait to be sitting right there reading and soaking up the sunshine! We have 27 days of school left so I’ll still be trapped inside during the week after the pool opens, but I am looking forward to pool time!
Jack’s golf team made the playoffs so I am looking forward to watching him play for at least one more week of high school golf this year!

I am seeing…
Students everywhere! I love living in the community where I work. I purposely didn’t teach and work in the same town for the first 14 years of my career because I wanted to be totally off the clock when school was over. However, once Jack started school and I became a school librarian (media specialist), I wanted to be closer to home and stop paying for before or aftercare. When the librarian job opened up at our neighborhood elementary school, I applied and got it. This is my ninth year at this school and I love it. When my kids were younger and played rec soccer, so many students would come in on Monday morning and say “Mrs. Parsons came to my soccer game” because they were playing at the same time as my boys in one of the 12 games going on. I still see kids at their games when I am cheering for my kids or going for a walk at a park. I see kids when I sit outside on our driveway or go to the neighborhood tennis courts. I see kids at the grocery store or restaurants. I even popped into the aftercare program at our gym to look for media books when I was dropping Luke off at swim team practice last week. Last Friday night, Luke was at Shooting Stars and he was buddies with two of my students. They were so excited to see Luke Parsons in real life.

Now that I’m a little older and wiser, I love seeing my students doing the things they love to do outside of school. I truly feel that the best learning happens when teachers and students build a good relationship and seeing my kids outside of school is a cool way to keep building the relationship. Don’t worry, even if I don’t see a kid outside of school I work on building a relationship with them, too.
I am reading…
All the time! Our county schools partner with our public library for a program called Battle of the Books. I am on the committee to choose the books for next year. We select ten books from a list of twenty. I am working on reading as many as I can by May 15th. I read all 10 graphic novels and have 7 novels left to read. It’s ok if I don’t get to all of them, but I try to read all 20.

I am wanting…
to wear tennis dresses or skirts and sneakers to work every day. I know I don’t play tennis, but they are so comfy. I’m trying to wear as many spring dresses and skirts as I can, but I keep reaching for those dresses. It feels a little casual, but my administrators do not mind.

My colleague introduced me to Poshmark and now I am wanting even more Lilly tennis dresses and skirts. I haven’t purchased anything yet, but I sure have favorited quite a few things. Have you ever shopped on Poshmark? I found a bunch of new with tags items for a much lower price. My colleague also mentioned that you can make an offer and go back and forth with the seller. It sounds like some work, but it could be a good way to get some Lilly deals.

I am also wanting to take one day off this month that will be very warm and sunny to read on my deck, but I do not see that happening. I have a lot to do at school and I would probably do other things at home if I did take that day off. Oh well, 27 school days until I can read in the sunshine for months!
Those were good prompts this month. Thanks Jennifer! What are you currently loving, seeing, reading, looking forward to, and wanting? Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

That is the best kind of peer pressure! LOL. Most of my son’s friends don’t even eat lunch! I guess I was the same way in high school but now I wonder how they can go all day without eating anything. Luckily Alec’s lunches are pretty healthy– though this time of year it’s more pita chips and hummus with fruit and things that don’t need much cooking or prep work. 27 more days sounds totally doable and I love that the countdown is on.
Obsessed with that Halter Tennis Dress!! Love that you now work in your town- special for you AND the kids 🙂
I’m so impressed that your kids want healthy lunches! Wow!
Midweek grocery pick up is a great idea…I should try that.
Next year will be interesting for me having my kids at my school. I plan on giving them their space, and thankfully it’s a big school, but I know it’s a matter of time before I have their friends in my class. Haha
