Friday Favorites – 4/5/24

Happy Friday! This was a good week with a nice mix of break and school. I have some favorites to share with you so let’s get to it!

Linking up with Erika and Andrea

Favorite 1: NORA FLEMING! Have you ever heard of Nora Fleming? She makes plain dishes with a little hole and you can add little decorations for the theme or season. My mom loves her dishes and turned me on to them, too. We used them for serving dishes on Easter and my sister-in-law told me that Nora would be in town on Thursday. I went to meet her and she was FABULOUS!! I even won a door prize at the event – Nora’s book and book “mini” decoration for the dishes.

Favorite 2: SUNSHINE!! Well, the sun was out all day on Easter and didn’t show its face until last night. I was walking around a parking lot waiting to pick Jack up and there was the sun. It felt so good on my face, even though it was chilly!

Favorite 3: MUSEUM! Luke and I went to the National Cryptologic Museum on Monday. We had the best time! It is adjacent to the NSA campus and has a lot of information about people that have worked in the National Security Administration and all the ways that countries have shared encoded messages and how they learn and use different languages.

Those big black buildings are NSA.

When we walked it, they gave Luke a clipboard with a bunch of questions and a cipher to figure out the answers. There were 12 activities with the cipher throughout the museum.

There were also other things to do with secret codes. A Greek method of encryption using a leather strap and different size dowel rods, papers with rectangles cut out to find different messages hidden in passages, a “typewriter” that encodes, and invisible ink.

Luke got to keep the cipher at the end. They also give all kids a pencil, flying fabric disk, and there are tons of pamphlets and informational pages to take. Admission is free, parking is free, and all the goodies were free. There was a gift shop if you needed to buy something, but we didn’t feel the need to go in.

Favorite 4: BOOKS! I have checked out 26 books from our library in the past 48 hours. The 2025 elementary nominees for our state book award were announced and I put in a ton of requests at our public library. I am excited to get reading them over the next week or so. It will mean I slow down my adult book reading, but that’s ok. They are generally great books and fun to read!

Favorite 5: TULIPS! I love tulips and our Safeway grocery store always has the best. I picked up a few bouquets before Easter and they’ve brought me so much joy this week!

Favorite 6: LIBRARIANS!! Thursday was National School Librarian Day. I celebrated by wearing a fun library shirt and a cardigan of course. I was celebrated by some very sweet students at school with cards and thank yous. I love my job and am excited to do it every day! I feel very lucky to be among the group of special people that are school librarians. This has been a tough year to be a school librarian in my school district and I am so grateful for my incredible library colleagues!!

Here’s a not favorite for you. I tried on the ricrac outfit that shared on Wednesday. Well, it is going right back to Amazon. First of all, it is not nearly as bright as it looked online. And second, it’s huge. I usually wear a medium, but I was swimming in this. I was going to exchange it for a smaller size (XS) but it isn’t available. I loved the skirt. It was lined and comfy, just too big.

That’s it’s for the week! We have a fun weekend ahead of us! The boys and I are going to Hershey Park and Luke has a soccer game on Sunday. I’m sure Jack will get to the golf course some, too. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

My sister turned me on to those dishes, and though I don’t have any, I do love them. How fun that you got to meet her and that you won the door prize??? I agree with Holly; she looks like a fun person! I’m so glad you’ve had a wonderful week. I thought of you yesterday on national Librarian day! I am thankful for the librarians who have made a difference in my life. I hope you enjoy your weekend, Sarah!

That museum sounds like SO much fun! I’d love that myself and my boys would too. Those tulips are lovely. Bummer about the 2-piece outfit.
