Monthly Goals – 2/1/24

Happy Thursday! Happy February! It is the first Thursday of the month so I am sharing my monthly goals and an update on last month’s goals. 

I set my January goals with big new year, new me energy. I had big plans for a fresh start. When I set my goals, I was anticipating getting back to our regular school routine and that did not happen. We had snow days, two hour delays, a sick kiddo, early dismissals for weather, and some other unexpected events. Here’s how I did:

  1. Exercise at least 20 minutes before school every day – Nope! I only did it a few times. I had a hard time getting up on those cold, dark mornings. I did get a workout in at least three days a week, but it was often after school.
  2. Walk or run for 20 minutes a day – Nope! It was cold and dark and I did not venture out. I have a treadmill in my basement but I didn’t make it happen.
  3. Go on one date with Jeff – Nope! We hung out at home a bit, but we didn’t make it out for a date.
  4. Only eat out as a group three times and I only go out to lunch three or less times – Yes! We ate at home a bunch!
  5. Curate my clothes – Yes! I have been ruthless this month. When my closet fell down, I got rid of a bunch that I wasn’t wearing. As I get dressed each day this month, I have been putting things I am not loving in the donate pile. I have only purchased a few items that fill a need in my closet.
  6. Read 4 books – Yes! I actually read 7 books and I am in the middle of three right now. 
  7. Work on my 2024 goals – Yes! I am not quite finished with them, but I am working on them. I listed to a Mel Robbins podcast along with her 2024 workbook and am feeling pretty good about where I am heading this year.

Well, that is a goal reflection like I haven’t seen in a while. So many things I didn’t do! Yikes! I spent some time this week reflecting on why I didn’t achieve my goals and I have changed some parts of my morning routine and my daily/weekly/monthly planning to better meet my goals this month.

1. Go on TWO dates with Jeff.

I had a date night planned this weekend, but now Jack has an evening swim meet session. I’m not giving up though. If we don’t make it out this weekend, I will get something on the calendar later this month.

2. Workout for 20 minutes at least 3 mornings a week.

I listen to the Best of Both Worlds podcast and the hosts repeatedly say 3 times a week is a habit. I want morning exercise to be a habit again, so three times a week it is.

3. Walk or run at least 3 days a week.

See above for the three times a week is a habit explanation. I can walk/run inside on my treadmill or outside in the fresh air. I just need to keep moving!

4. Get outside every day.

I got out of the habit of getting outside no matter what the weather in January and I noticed a difference in my attitude and outlook. Time to get myself back outside. Last year I focused on 23 minutes a day and I like that number (it’s my birthday) so I’ll stick with it!

5. Work on my posture.

My school has a lot of windows and reflective surfaces. I have been noticing that my back is nice and straight but I am pitching forward from the hips. I am going to take an extra second when I start walking to stand straight up this month. I am also going to wear our posture adjuster for at least one hour three times a week.

There you have it. My five goals for February. Here’s hoping I have better results when I am back to share an update on the first Thursday of March than I did today. I am going to continue to focus on more books and less social media in February, but I am not making it an official goal because it went so well in January. Are you setting any goals for this month?     Those are great goals! I need to spend some more time outside this month. The weather hasn’t been conducive to that in a while, and the one week that it is, I’m sick. Bleh. I’ve read/heard about the posture adjusters…I hope it works for you! I always try to correct myself when I feel like I’m slouching. I think about this all the time!
