Monthly Musings – 9/29/22

Happy Thursday! It’s the last Thursday of the month so I am linking up with Holly and Patty to answer 10 fun seasonal questions. I love thinking about my answers and seeing everyone else’s answers, too!

This one is a little tricky for me because I haven’t done much fall decorating. You know I love summer and I have been holding on to it as long as I can. The weather is getting cooler so I am starting to think about it. At school, kids are already getting excited for Halloween so I’ve started thinking about that.

1. How do you decorate for fall / Halloween?

I don’t do a ton for fall and Halloween but I like to add little touches around the house. I change our placemats out for some with oranges and yellows. I have some fall things that I leave up through Thanksgiving and some Halloween things that just stay up in October.

I decorate myself with some fun earrings and necklaces!

2. Do you decorate inside? Outside? Both?

I do decorate inside and outside. I put a fall wreath on the front door and Halloween wreaths on the back doors. I use pumpkins and fall colors to add a little seasonal fun to our home.

3. When do you do your fall decorating?

I start my fall decorating on October 1st. We are supposed to get some rain from the remnants of Hurricane Ian this weekend and I am going to decorate.

4. How do you pumpkin — decorate with pumpkins?

I put a few pumpkins up in October and leave them up through Thanksgiving. I have some Halloween pumpkins, but most of them are more fall than Halloween. I have a light up pumpkin that Jen shared last year and I love that in my family room. I like to put a few pumpkins on our front porch but I wait until the beginning to middle of October so they don’t rot.

5. Do you add lights to your decorating?

I used to wrap our porch railings with candy corn lights but they’ve all burnt out over the years and I decided not to replace them. I put orange lightbulbs in our porch and garage lights for the whole month of October. I have a light up triple pumpkin that I usually put on our front porch for some extra fun.

6. Do you do anything special for Halloween dinner?

After one failed year of mummy dogs, we always have chili. I can get everything ready the night before. I even put it all in the crockpot, cover it, and put it in the fridge. The next morning, I pull the crockpot out, plug it in, and dinner is ready to eat whenever anyone is hungry. My parents usually come. Jeff’s parents come occasionally. We’ve hosted aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends on Halloween. Chili is perfect because it is ready whenever the eater is.

7. Favorite Halloween candy?

Without a doubt my favorite Halloween candy is Reese’s pumpkins. I saw that they are making different shapes now, bats and ghosts I think, so I will be sure to try those this year!

8. Full size or fun size candy bars?

I give out fun size candy. Our neighborhood has a ton of kids and there are a bunch of people that have friends come and trick-or-treat with them. The kids that I teach have figured out which one my house is so we get an enormous amount of trick-or-treaters. I usually go through over 200 pieces of candy. It would be way too expensive to do full size!

9. Best fall decor tips?

I like to stick with things that are more fall-ish and add some soft lights to the darker evenings. I like candles and candle holders that are fall, like pumpkins not jack-o-lanterns. I am trying to have a few things that I really love and can leave out for a few months so I am not adding more work to my load.

10. Pumpkin spice – yes or no?

N.O. I do not like anything pumpkin flavored, scented, textured. Absolutely not. No thank you. I am not a pumpkin fan.

That was fun and it has me excited to decorate for fall this weekend. I can’t wait to see what everyone else has to say about fall. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

Changing out your lights for orange ones is genius! Love that! I decorate my classroom for Day of the Dead, too! I think even high school kids like decor. I also like to put window clings on my windows. You have lots of great ideas. The mummy dogs I have made involve wrapping crescent roll dough on hotdogs and I crave a hot dog a couple of times a year and these are so good! I might do it for just Tom and I. He will laugh if I do.

I am strictly a fall and not a Halloween decorator. We never get any trick or treaters anyway; in fact I don’t think my husband and I have ever lived anywhere with trick or treaters so I have never passed out candy!

Your three pumpkins on the porch are so cute. I love your earrings (I smell children…so funny. I love Reece cups too…I always buy myself a few when I’m in the grocery…& laugh at myself because I buy them when they are pumpkin and egg shaped …like that’s my justification for myself for buying candy haha

I love the Halloween triple lanterns! Your chili looks so Good! We are supposed to get rain from Ian too so that is the perfect time to start the decorating. Thanks for joining us today.

It makes me laugh that almost everyone else answered about what they hand out for full size or fun size candy bars and I was all about, “Which ones do I like to eat?!?!” Also, I love all your festive outfits! They are sooooo fun!
