What’s Up Wednesday – 4/25/18

It’s the fourth Wednesday of the month so it is time for What’s Up Wednesday! I am linking up with Shay, Mel, and Sheaffer to answer some questions about life lately.

WhatsUpWedUpdated

Here are the questions everyone linking up is going to answer. Let’s get started!WUWquestions-edit-969x1024

WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK…

Sunday – breakfast for dinner (an often forgotten favorite around here), Monday – leftovers, Tuesday – meatballs (I snuck some spinach in and they were my best yet), Wednesday – waffles, Thursday – grilled cheese, Friday – pizza, Saturday – parties, Sunday – I have no idea!

WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT…

My babies! Luke just turned 7 and seeing all his sweet birthday pictures have me remembering the days of snuggling babies and sleepless nights.  Luke has always been my snuggler and he’ll take those snuggles whenever he can get them. As a baby he didn’t care if it was 2 am, 10 am, 5 pm, or 11 pm, that boy loved his mama snuggles.

Luke’s 7th birthday collage. That smiling boy on April 19th from just born to 7!

WHAT I’M LOVING…

I have been loving baseball season! Jack loves baseball and watching him play makes my heart happy.  Luke has started pitching and he is so excited about playing this season.  The boys have been playing games in the backyard, even in the rain, and having a blast.

I am also loving watching my boys reading! Jack has really gotten into Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Luke can’t get enough of Captain Underpants.  It is wonderful to watch them pick up a book without anyone asking!!

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO…

I have been running.  A lot.  I ran my third half-marathon on Sunday and it was fabulous. I ran with 4 girlfriends and I am so proud of all those girls.  We had a fabulously relaxing weekend with 2 runs tucked into it.  Today is day 480 in my run streak so I am still running, but I am looking forward to a few days of just a mile.

We’ve celebrated 2 birthdays since last What’s Up Wednesday. Jack turned 9 and Luke turned 7.  The boys picked different ways to celebrate and we had family dinners on their actual birthday. It was great to celebrate with the boys’ grandparents and great-grandmother. Jack picked Glory Days so he could watch the Final Four. Luke picked Los Aztecas because he wanted to wear the sombrero and have whipped cream smeared on his face.  That matches them perfectly!

While they sing to you on your birthday, one of the waiters at the restaurant puts some whipped cream on your face. It’s a Parsons Family favorite!

This boy loves basketball in a big way!

The boys are both playing soccer and baseball right now so we’ve been going to a lot of games and practices, too.  They are loving the sun setting a little later and staying outside a little longer.

WHAT I’M DREADING…

I have a lot to do between now and the end of the school year and I have been putting some of it off. I am dreading doing it, but I know that it will feel so good to get it done.  Which rolls right into the next question…

WHAT I’M WORKING ON…

I am renewing my National Board Certification for Teachers this year and I am working on that. I am also working on our pool membership things.  The pool opens in 31 days. The boys asked me to join them at the driving range the next time we go, so I guess I am working on my golf swing too.

WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT…

MAY!  There is something about the month of May that brings so much joy.

It is warm enough to be outside as much as possible and we are down to the fun stuff at school.  The pool will open soon and I can start reading so much more!! I am very excited about the new summer books coming out and I always wait for school to be out to read them.

I am so excited about meeting Kristy Woodson Harvey last weekend.  She could not have been any lovelier if she tried! Kourtni and I were so excited to meet her and hear what she had to say about her books and other books she’s read and she did not disappoint.

Kristy was absolutely charming and I cannot wait to read her new book!

Between A Likely Story, my local bookstore, and Bethany Beach Books, in Delaware, I am going to meet Sarah Pekkanan again and Dorothea Benton Frank in the next month. I can’t wait to hear what they have to say about their books! I’ve never met Dottie and I am hoping I don’t freeze up on the spot when I have a chance to talk to her.  The Hurricane Sisters is my favorite of her books and I can’t wait to read By Invitation Only.

WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING…

I made two trips to bookstores last week and came home with A LOT of books!  I read Mystic Summer by Hannah McKinnon and loved it!  I am currently reading Lies and Other Acts of Love by Kristy Woodson Harvey. She said it was her favorite of her books so I moved it to the top of my list. I have her other books to read too, Dear Carolina and The Secret to Southern Charm.  I also picked up The Heart of Henry Quantum by Pepper Harding and The Things We Keep by Sally Hepworth. I have The Other Woman by Sandie Jones sitting on my nightstand to be read too.
I haven’t been watching much besides The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, New York, and Potomac, Southern Charm, and our regular 60 minutes on Sunday night.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO…

I haven’t been listening to much lately. We pretty much keep the car radio on XM 24 – Radio Margaritaville.  I love Jimmy Buffett and am doing my best to raise two little parrot heads.  Fins to the left… Fins to the right…

Parrot heads for life!

WHAT I’M WEARING…

I have been rocking my School Library Month t-shirs.  The kids at school have been reading what I’m wearing and I love it. I am documenting it on Instagram.  Check it out @sunnyscp.

My first 15 days of School Library Month.

I am also loving this outfit. It is so comfy and I feel like I look a little put together wearing it.

I have these pants with a coordinating top in 2 colors and I love them!

WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND…

We have a few soccer and baseball games this weekend.  Luke has a birthday party and Jack has his soccer party on Saturday night. I’ll tell you what I won’t be doing – running a long distance!  Just a few miles will be perfect!

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH…

I love so much about May.  Preakness is May 19th.  Jeff and I always have the best time dressing up and watching the horses race around the track.

Field Day is a fun event at school the Friday before Memorial Day.  Third graders do a dance to kick off the day and I am looking forward to watching Jack and all his buddies dance.  The pool opens Memorial Day weekend and I love spending the weekend hanging out with our friends in one of our favorite spots.  My hometown has the longest running Memorial Day parade in the country and we love going to that each year too.

WHAT ELSE IS NEW…

Not too much. We are cruising through the spring and enjoying as much sunshine as we can.

BONUS QUESTION – WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MOTHER’S DAY GIFT?

I have a few that I have really loved! I ran my first half-marathon on Mother’s Day and Jeff and the boys gave me a massage that year.  It was heavenly! I have my eye on a Barrington bag or two this year.  I love both of these St. Anne Petite totes!

Every year as a gift to us from my dad, we eat crabs on the back deck for Mother’s Day dinner and I love it.  There are no dishes afterwards and crabs are a favorite dinner of ours! I also make a point to take a picture with my mom and with the boys on Mother’s Day. It’s so fun to see how they’ve grown and changed!

Have a super day full of sunshine and books!!
