Happy Wednesday! It’s the first Wednesday of the month and I am linking up with Amy to share five things I am currently doing. Each month we share five different things and I think it’s a fun way to think about what’s going on. This month’s prompts are perfect for heading back to school!

I am adjusting to…
being back to school. I set an alarm for 7 am most mornings in the summer and ease into my mornings. When school is in session, I set an alarm for 5:35 am and snooze one time while I read my book or a blog or two and then I am up and moving. That is quite an adjustment. My summer days are full but not school day full. During the first week of school, I get to school around 7 am and start meeting kindergarteners getting off the bus around 7:15. We are finished bus arrival around 7:45 and then I do the morning announcements. Then I spend my day teaching, helping with tech problems, checking in with teachers, reading new books, and planning lessons for the next week. At 2:15, I head to the gym and run the inside portion of our parent pick up. That finishes up around 2:40 and I go back to my office to check my email one last time before our duty day ends at 2:45. I have been staying a little later this week to help teachers with tech issues while there aren’t students in the room. After the first week, I’ll have morning checkout in the library from 7:15 – 7:45 instead of helping with the kindergarteners. It is a busy day!
being the mom of a senior! I know everyone says it, but how did this happen so fast! I am doing pretty well with it emotionally, and then I pulled up to school yesterday and cried for a minute. I remember going to pick him up after his first day of kindergarten at my school and how nervous and excited I was. Sometimes it feels like it was yesterday! I am trying to enjoy it all because I know this is the natural progression and he’s going to have a great year!

I am baking / cooking…
dinner! Summer Sarah doesn’t love to make meal plans or dinner, but regular Sarah is on it. We had tacos on Monday, burgers on Tuesday, and shrimp salad is on the menu for tonight. I only have to think about my own lunches because meals are included at my boys’ school. Glory hallelujah!! I am always looking for easy gluten-free dinner ideas if you have any to share!
I am decorating…
the library. I don’t do much actual decorating per se, but I do create book displays and try to make it as inviting as possible. I got a new shelf this year and got to do a little rearranging to have a special selection of books on the new shelf.

I am NOT decorating for fall yet! I wait until October 1st to do that. It is still officially summer until later in Septmeber and I am not giving it up!

I am balancing…
my time between the work I am bringing home to do and all the other things I want to do. I am getting back into an exercise routine. It is my kids’ first week of school. Jeff’s days are longer now that sports have started again. I don’t usually do much work at home, but I have a hard time getting it all done during the first few weeks of school.
I am learning…
the names of all the new students at my school. I work really hard to know everyone’s name by the end of the second week of school. We have over 400 kids so it’s a big job. Luckily I already know most of the first-fifth graders.
I can’t wait to see what others are currently doing. Thanks for hosting Amy! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I’m not decorating for fall yet either. The library looks lovely and very inviting!
