Hello Monday – 9/15/25

Happy Monday! I’m starting the week with Holly and all of you! I hope you’ll link up with us for Hello Monday!

Before I get to what’s great, I want to share a little of what’s on my mind. I have been working through some thoughts lately and I am having a bit of a hard time. I am so sad about all of the hate, unkindness, and deaths in our country. I am torn between turning off news emails and notifications because it is all too much and not wanting to bury my head in the sand because oh my goodness how can I not pay attention to what is happening. It’s quite the dilema and I do not have answers…

I took a little social media break on Sunday afternoon after I got three posts/reels in a row about what high school juniors need to be doing now to get into college and I started to stress even more. I popped on my heavier weighted vest and hit the pavement. I can always tell when there is something on my mind because I walk faster. Sunday was no different with my 15 minute pace…

Now, our weekend wasn’t all stressful. I do have EIGHT GREAT things to share with you!

1-Luke had his first soccer game on Friday afternoon. He played really well and it was so fun to watch Luke and his team play. It was a little stressfull when another player swiped his legs near the edge of the field and he bounced off the track. Yikes! Luke was fine and went back into the game to finish it out. It was so great to see him really open up and run up and down the field after his hip and knee injuries in the past few seasons. He had a big fan club (both sets of grandparents and me) but I forgot to take a picture of us.

2-Luke rode the bus back to school for the football game. Jack was already there and of course Jeff was too. The boys had a great time in the student section and I had fun in the stands with the parents and staff. I am working on meeting more people at the school. They were playing Jeff and Jack’s old school so that was fun to see some of Jack’s classmates and Jeff’s students. Unfortunatly, we did not win but it was still a fun game.

3-We were up and moving on Saturday morning because we had tickets to the Spy musuem. Luke loves an experience and we gave him tickets to the museum for his birthday in April. Saturday was a gorgeous day to learn about spies, go on our spy missions, and eat lunch down by the wharf in DC.

We each got to get a disguise as a spy. I thought Jeff’s and Luke’s were pretty funny, but I really like mine!

4-This no kid sports on Saturday thing is still weird to me but I am adjusting. I spent some time on the deck reading in the sunshine. I am really enjoying Confessions of a Grammar Queen by Eliza Knight!

I reread The Blue Book by Elin Hilderbrand this weekend. I read it when it was included in The Hotel Nantucket, but I think there are a few additions in the stand alone so I read it again. I do need to get to Nantucket sometime!

5-Jack had a friend spend the night which is always fun. Luke was hoping to play Clue Master Detective after our day at the Spy Museum and the guys all played. I never play Clue with them because I don’t have the patience for it. They had a good time, though!

6-We had a slow morning on Sunday. Luke made pancakes, I watched Sunday Morning, Jeff went on his Sunday podcast walk, and Jack slept in. It was a lovely way to start the day!

7-I went on that walk from up above. Even though I was working through somethings, I came home with a clearer mind and a bit more relaxed. I talked to my sister for part of the walk and that was nice, too. I got home from my walk and Luke and I played Pickles to Penguins and Taco vs. Burrito while I stretched a bit.

8-Sunday evening was great! Both kids had their homework done by dinner time. We had dinner together and Jeff made the wings. The boys played outside with our neighbors until after dark. I watched the Emmys, the guys watched football, and we were all relaxed!

Unfortunately (I guess), the absolutely beautiful weather we had this weekend means I did not do much to work in our basement. I am not too worried about it but it does need to get done. In Currently earlier this month, I said that it was a goal for this month and the weather is not cooperating. Let’s modify that to make the deadline before Halloween. 😉

I am looking forward to this week, but it is going to be a full one. Luke has two soccer games, Jack has two golf practices and a few swim practices, there is a back to school night, and a football game. Whoa! My meal plan is made, groceries are ordered, Monday and Tuesday lunches are packed, and I have all the lists ready to keep me on track. We’ve got this friends! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

Terrible things are happening, and I can relate to you feeling worried. I love that you went out for walk to cope with all that was on your mind. I go out for a daily run to keep myself fit and mentally stable. Moving your body is such a great way to cope with stress.

I can relate! I also did something stupid and commented on a stranger’s IG post and said they need to learn apostrophe rules. So dumb. I should have “let them”. Now I’m getting comments from strangers.
The junior year is a big stressor. You handled it exactly right by getting out and walking and I need to do that more when I am stressed.

I watched a video that said something about how the human brain isn’t wired to know all of the information that we’re able to know across the world. I thought of that when I read about how you felt anxious about all of the bad things going on in our country. I feel every bit of that! My adult son was emotional about this last night when we were talking about the death of Charlie Kirk. He wasn’t a perfect human, but he was someone that so many young people looked up to because of how relevant he was. It’s hard for these young people to process things like this! I just let him sit and talk about it all with me, and hopefully it helped him some to get it off his chest.

I didn’t mean to say all of that here, but I’m glad you turned off the news and that you went on a walk. I’m glad you were able to enjoy the weekend, as well. You needed that…we all did. Thanks for hosting us here today, friend. I hope your week gets started off on a great note!

Sounds like a fun weekend- I don’t blame you for taking the social media break- I hate the stress they put on families about college- I learned so much from friends who went through it last year and you know whatever happens is meant to be and they all find their place eventually!

It is so sad what is happening in the world at the moment. I want to bury my head in the sand too but at the same time I need to know what is going on.
Well done to Luke with the soccer and the Spy museum looks like a lot of fun!

It’s a strange sad time and everyone is feeling it I think. Plus Junior year is a lot and so much pressure, yet somehow kids end up where they need to be. I think getting outside as much as you can is good for mind, body, and soul. Our weather is absolute perfection right now and that helps. Have a great day!

We had a high school shooting in Colorado on the same day of the more public event and it hardly made any news. Sadly, young people are being “radicalized” to be hateful online. and school shootings are epidemic. Exercise helps relieve stress–keep it up! The Spy Museum looks interesting!

We read about that spy museum when we were looking to take our boys to DC when they were younger; it sounded so neat! It looks like you had a great time. That sounds like you had a lovely weekend.

I am with you on all the bad news. I have been really limiting the news to about 60 minutes max per day and it is really helping my anxiety. That gives just enough time to catch up on “news” without getting dragged down into the pit of despair.

    Hugs,
    Patty
