What’s Up Wednesday – 7/30/25

Happy Wednesday! It’s the last Wednesday of the month so I am sharing what we’ve been up to. Stick around after the What’s Up questions for the Hodgepodge with Joyce. Let’s get to it!

Linking up with Sheaffer and Shay

WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK…

We’ve had a lot of carryout and organized events meals. On Saturday we had our swim team banquet dinner. On Sunday, we had pizza. Jeff grilled burgers and hot dogs on Monday. We had leftovers on Tuesday. Wednesday is a board meeting for Jeff and me so we’ll eat there. I’m not sure what’s for dinner on Thursday and Friday we are going to my parents’ for dinner.

WHAT I’M LOVING…

Summer! All of it!

I got a heavier weighted vest (16 lbs) and I love it. I am definitely still getting used to it, but it is good.

We had fun at Top Golf at the beginning of July.

The unofficial swim team parent advisory team and this selfie. I am referring to this as the selfie that saved me. I tweaked my back getting some groceries out of the car and when I squatted down for this picture something moved around in my hip/back and I felt SO MUCH BETTER!

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO…

Swim, swim, and more swim. Add in some pool time and you have a good idea of what we’ve been up to.

Jack had a golf tournament this week and I went with him on Monday. He played well and it was a lovely walk around the golf course.

The boys have been playing tennis lately in our neighborhood and I joined them the other day.

WHAT I’M DREADING…

People keep talking about $(h00! (school). It’s too soon!!! The boys and I all go back on the same day and we still have 26 days left. I haven’t purchased school supplies and we are still summering hard over here.

WHAT I’M WORKING ON…

I am working on getting back to blogging a little more regularly.

I am working on reading more this month. And with that, I am working on my Summer Beach Reads and library holds list.

WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT…

The next 26 days. Jack is working at the pool some and Luke will have high school soccer tryouts but the rest of it is wide open. I am hoping to plan a few things for us to do that aren’t laying at the pool all day.

WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING…

I watched a bit of tv recently. We watched Happy Gilmore 2 and LOVED it. It was everything I hoped it would be. I watched Mamma Mia again. It is such a fun summer movie! I am watching Younger on Netflix. It’s fun and easy to watch.

I shared a reading update yesterday. I read 6 books in July and there were some good ones in there.

WHAT I’M WEARING…

Bathing suits all day, most days. I love my Title 9 suits. I love the DSG shorts (this year’s version) and this cropped tank top (it just about reaches the top of my shorts). I’ve been wearing these two skorts all summer long (flowy and pleats in the back).

I am still loving my Crocs sandals.

WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND…

I am going to the pool for a bit and heading to the American Girl store with my mom, sister, and neice. I’ve never been and can’t wait to see what it is all about.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH…

Lots of wide open days. Very few alarms set. Adding strength training back to my routine.

On to the Hodgepodge…

1. On July 29th 1957 The Tonite Show premiered with Jack Parr as it’s host. This marked the beginning of the modern day talk show. Do you watch any daytime or late night talk shows today? Do you have any thoughts on the hubbub surrounding the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, or are you more in the camp of ‘who is Stephen Colbert? I do watch the Today show whenever I am home. I absolutely understand the cancellation of a show for financial reasons. . I do not love the speculation of the political ties to the cancellation of The Late Show and worry about what it means for our country. We have freedom of the press and any person should be allowed to speak their views, even if it is criticizing the government.

2. What’s the best part of your day? I love saying good morning to my family. I love when I get outside for the first time. I also love climbing into bed to read at night.

3. What’s something your generation does that you actually dislike? BRUNCH! I hate brunch. I don’t mind breakfast, I love lunch, I think day drinking is great, but brunch messes up my whole day. I like to eat early, midday, and in the evening. When brunch comes along, I don’t know whether to eat beforehand or just wait. I don’t like skipping my favorite meal – lunch – and then I’m a mess for dinner.

4. When you cook do you clean as you go, or clean it all up once you’re finished cooking? What’s the last thing you cooked/baked in your own kitchen?  I clean up as I go. Our kitchen isn’t huge and we don’t have a ton of counter space so cleaning up as I go makes everything easier. I made pasta salad last night to go with leftovers.

5. Sum up your July in ten words or less. Swimming, You can do it!, Go Dolphins!, Proud of you!

6. Insert your own random thought here. Have you heard of NEAT in relation to fitness? It stands for Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis. This is the NEATest summer I have ever had and I appreciated it. I am an active coach and found that I walked about two miles in a one hour swim practice, according to my Apple watch, just circling the pool to offer technique advice while the kids were swimming. I am curious to see how I feel in August without the built in NEAT time.

Well, this was quite a post! I’m hoping to be back tomorrow for Monthly Musings. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

It sounds like things are busy, no wonder you are eating carryout and leftovers.
How great to tweak your back into place with a selfie!
Ahh! That’s good you still have a while of summer left, we have just over a month but I am sure it’s going to fly over quickly!
Yes!! Brunch messes my day up too with not knowing what to eat before or after as I am usually too full to eat a proper dinner!

So much swimming and so much goodness! Love how you said you love the first time you go outside- that is really a gift- especially in the summer- I love when the only sounds are sprinklers kicking on and birds chirping- ha! You look so happy- Summer Sarah is back for sure!

I haven’t heard of NEAT but am going to see what it’s all about. I’m curious how much I’m doing without realizing it. I’m with you on all the school talk. It’s tooo early, isn’t it? Kids here are back in the classroom next week. Feels like the middle of summer to me, and technically I think it is. On the up side, the lake gets much quieter and less busy with kids back in school so I don’t mind that part. Enjoy summering for another 26 days!

I had to chuckle about your brunch answer. You totally nailed it! Fun fact: the school my kiddos graduated from eons ago was known as the dolphins. Such great memories of those years . . .
