Currently & Hodgepodge – 6/4/25

Happy Wednesday! It’s the first Wednesday of the month and I am linking up with Jennifer to share five things I am currently doing. Each month we share five different things and I think it’s a fun way to think about what’s going on.

I am loving…

Open windows! The pollen is finally calming down a bit and we’ve had our windows open this weekend.

My tshirt drawer. This sounds a little silly to say I love it, but I cleaned it out the other day and it has made a big difference. I pulled out any tshirt I haven’t worn in a while and don’t need for a special occasion (sports team, etc.). It made a good bit of room and it’s easier to find the shirts I want to wear.

I am doing outside…

Everything I possibly can. When the weather warms up, I try to be outside as much as possible. I exercise outside. I read outside. We eat outside. I even make my lists outside.

I am cooking/grilling…

Not much! This week has been pretty full. I worked on Monday, had a staff meeting, came home for about 30 mintues, then headed off to our first swim practice, and then took Jack to Jeff’s parents to spend the night. I got home around 9 so dinner was pizza delivered to the pool. Tuesday was a little better with no staff meeting and no driving, but we were still picked up carryout. We don’t have practice tonight so I’m trying a new recipe in the crockpot. I’ll let you know how it is.

I am excited about…

June 13th, 2:45 pm. School will be over! I have a few extra hours to work the next week, but they are much less stressful. Summer Sarah is coming soon! She will be here full time by June 18th at the very latest.

I am excited to get to my summer reading. My 2025 summer beach reads are off to a roaring start! I met two Summer Beach Read authors!!

I am already reading my third Summer Beach Reads book.

I am excited to spend some time at the pool this weekend.

I am wearing…

My new crocs. I got two styles and they are both so comfortable!

My summer reading tshirt. Every year, librarians from our public library come to my school and share information about summer reading, great books, and fun programs happening at the library this summer. They also give the librarians a tshirt. I always wear it the day of the summer reading presentation at school and try to wear it a few more times before school ends. A fellow librarian friend shared the idea to turn the old tshirts into pillow covers for the library. It’s a great way to reuse them.

I am going to be wearing a tankini this summer. I haven’t worn anything but a bikini for years and years. I bought two tankinis for swim team this summer. I got them from Title 9 so I have tankini and bikini tops that all match the bottoms.

I am wearing so many skorts. I LOVE them!! I have two styles from CRZ Yoga and one from Baleaf. They are great for school, around town, and swim coaching I hope.

I have been wearing a good bit of Lilly lately. I haven’t bought anything new, but I am enjoying wearing the tshirts with plain bottoms.

I am also linking up with Joyce for the Wednesday Hodgepodge.

1. What do birthdays look like in your house? How are they celebrated? Any special traditions? What about birthdays growing up? We love birthdays! We always use the musical birthday plate. It doesn’t play so well anymore, but I love it! We also mark our heights on the door frame. I did it growing up and now we do it with my boys.

The birthday plate was my grandmother’s, my mom’s, and now it’s mine.

I started a birthday balloons tradition when Jack was three. It was a great idea, but now I have to come up with different balloon arrangements for each boy on their door every year. And they stay up pretty late so I have to get up in the middle of the night or very early to put those balloons up. My advice: don’t start a birthday tradition unless you are certain you want to do it for a very long time. I’m happy I started it but I didn’t really think what it would look like when they were turning 14 and 16.

2. Someone is sending you a dozen roses…what color are you hoping for? Are you someone who gets accused of seeing the world through rose colored glasses? Is your accuser correct? Elaborate. I’d love pink or yellow roses. I try to see the world through rose colored glasses because I always want to look for the positive.

3. June 4th is National Cheese Day…will you celebrate? What’s something (besides a burger) you make in the summer months that calls for cheese? I hadn’t planned on celebrating but I will now! I’m going to have leftover pizza today for lunch with extra cheese. I don’t love cheese on my burger. I’ve always had a cold slice of cheese on the side of my burger. We do have a restaurant in town that has yummy homemade pimento cheese. I like to get that with my burger. It is delicious! In the summer, I like a cold pasta salad with pesto or Italian dressing, chopped veggies, and fresh mozzarella.

4. ’tis the season…any weddings on your June calendar? What’s the first word that comes to mind when I say marriage? No weddings for us this year, but we are celebrating our anniversary. When you say marriage, I think love.

5. What are you most looking forward to this June? See above – June 13th 2:45 pm (teachers are officially finished) and June 18th 5:00 pm (I will be finished my extra hours) I love my job as a school librarian but I also love Summer Sarah.

6. Insert your own random thought here. It has only been two days, but I am loving being a coach again! I coached swim team most years from 1995 through 2011. It’s really fun!

I really enjoy both of these linkups and the prompts. Thanks Jenn and Joyce! What are you looking forward to in June? Hopefully you have some good stuff on the calendar! I’ll be back Friday with my favorites from the week! Have a great day full sunshine and books!

Yay for nearly time for Summer Sarah to show up! I’m trying to spend as much time outside doing pretty much everything too. I love just about any color and combination of roses; I’m not picky. I can’t remember the last time we’ve had a wedding to attend.

I’m not a good swimmer, but Mark and both of our kids are and were all on swim teams when growing up. Our kids even taught swim lessons. I think it would be so fun! Your Lilly tops are all cute! I won’t be reading for pleasure this summer — maybe I can during the one week break between mini terms.

So true on the birthday rituals! Mosquitos are so pesky around here outside for the summer. So nice to spend so much time outside though! You’ve almost made it to the end of another school year. Enjoy your day!

I typically do not add cheese to a burger either. When we grill everyone wants cheese and then there’s mine : ) I live in pimento cheese country and it’s added to a lot of things here, but often you’ll see it on a burger menu. I went shopping Monday…lots of pretty new LIly things, although I didn’t buy as I was on a mission to find a dress for a wedding. Have a great day!

It is so nice to have the windows open. I go around the house opening all of ours on a morning.
You have had a busy week so far. I hope the crockpot recipe goes well.
What lovely birthday traditions you have.

I can relate to the t-shirt drawer. I actually hang my graphic tees now. Crocs have some really cute styles! I have the Brooklyn in black which is like a platform sandal and no one can tell it’s rubber, TBH.
    You’ve got this – it’s almost June 13!

Love your library / summer reading shirt. I think it’s so neat you are coaching swim. I know my kids loved their swim team coaches. The balloon tradition is so fun. I know what you mean about traditions – I have had a few the kids but some seem to have natural stopping points which is fine too. I’m glad they still like the streamers 🙂

We have the same theme for our public library reading program too. I bet you will love coaching this summer!
