Monthly Musings – 5/29/25

Happy Thursday! It’s the last Thursday of the month so I am linking up with Holly and Patty to answer 10 fun seasonal questions. I love thinking about my answers and seeing everyone else’s answers, too!

This month we are talking about kicking off summer and I am ready to do just that!

1 – What are you most looking forward to this summer?
I am hoping to see Michael Franti this summer. We had tickets last year but the show got rained out. I am looking forward to relaxing days at the pool. I am looking forward to being chauffeured around all summer as Jack is learning to drive.

2 – Any favorite summer traditions?
I love our summer swim traditions – meets, practices, pep rallies, friends.

We usually go to a professional baseball game. We cheered for the Orioles for a long time, but the boys are Braves fans now.

I always have Jack and Luke do a cannonball video when we are at the pool by ourselves. They used to LOVE it, but now they do it just for mom. 🩵🩵

My mom held Camp Gigi for Jack and Luke for 11 years! It was a fun week for the boys and my parents. She planned five days of fun the week I went back to work. They made memories that my guys will cherish forever! This is the first year without Camp Gigi and I do not know what my mom is going to do the week before Labor Day.

We always head to 7-11 on July 11th for slurpees!

3 – Any summer travel plans? Please dish!
We do not have any travel plans. ZERO! It feels a little weird but this summer is going to be a little different. I am coaching our summer swim team. That season starts Monday and runs until July 26th. Jeff is starting a new job on July 1st. That doesn’t leave any sensible blocks of time for us to get away. I am sure we will sneak away to the beach for a day or two, but we don’t have any big trips on the calendar.

4 – How do you red, white, and blue?
I red, white, and blue EVERYWHERE! Our swim team colors are rw&b so every Saturday morning you can find me sporting the colors. I decorate with rw&b in our house. I have a few pairs of rw&b sneakers. I have a rw&b bathing suit and cover up. I have rw&b hats, sunglasses, and bracelets. I have a rw&b Swig, too. If it comes in rw&b, I probably have it and sport it!

5 – Beach, lake, or pool?
My favorite is the beach. I am happiest at the beach. If I can’t be at the beach, you can find me at the pool. I don’t get to a lake very often, but a day on the pontoon boat is always fun.

6 – Favorite summer sweet treat?
I love a snowball. Lime and pink lemonade are my favorite. We have a few snowball stands around town and I am hoping to visit them all this summer.

7 – Favorite sunscreens or self tanners?
We use Neutrogena, Hawaiian Tropic, or Sun Bum sunscreens. I like Isle of Paradise self tanner for my face and body.

8 – Best flip flops or sandals?
I’ve always said my Reef Ginger flip flops and I still love them. However, my old lady feet are loving my new Crocs sandals. I got these at the Crocs outlet over spring break and ordered these earlier this week. All three of these are good for the beach, the pool, and around town.

9 – How are you staying fit this summer?
My plan is to continue walking with my weighted vest most days. I’d like to add more running into my fitness routine. I am planning to do Jess Sims’ 3 day split on Peloton for a few weeks also. I did it in January and saw a difference in my strength and muscle mass pretty quickly, even though it was so hard and I could barely move afterwards.

I should (oooo, I hate that word for fitness but it’s true here) be swimming laps as the swim team coach to make sure the old girl’s still got it. Ha!

10 – Favorite summer themed movies?
While I don’t watch many movies, I do have a few summer movies that I enjoy. I love Back to the Beach! My sister and I always reference the “humunga cowabunga from down under” whenever we are at the beach or talking about an ocean. ALWAYS!

We watch a lot of surfing movies/documentaries here. The Endless Summer, Step into Liquid, Riding Giants, Discovering Mavericks are all in the rotation.

My kids (and I) loved Teen Beach Movie!

I thought I was ready for summer when I started writing this, but now I am sure I am ready! We have 11 more days of school, after today, and they can hurry right along! I know this summer is going to be different than our summers in the past, but I am looking forward to all the fun. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I prefer the beach or a pool too but clearly spend most of my time at the lake (just not IN the lake!). Hawaiian Tropics is the quintessential summer smell to me.

  2. Holly Breton @ Pink Lady says:

You are so adorable in all of your red, white and blue- love it all!! We have no travel plans either and I am fine with that- looking forward to some lazy days of summer in the sun and can’t wait to follow along with your summer too!

Swim team coaching is a commitment but I bet you’ll have a lot of fun with it too. I like to swim laps because I feel like its easy for me to set goals to swim more. Swimming is one of the few things that actually helps with the midsection : ) I do swim in the lake every day, but prefer just floating and relaxing there. My hubs swims crazy distances in the lake wearing a fluorescent little float around his ankle to be seen but I prefer my book on my float. The weather is slow to come around this year, but I’m ready!

  4. Patty says:

Glad we could get you ready for summer! I love that your swim team colors are red, white, and blue. Congrats on the coaching gig.

  5. Marilyn says:

I like those sandals and am currently looking for some new ones for me. I hope the end of the school year goes well and y’all enjoy the beginning of summer!

I’m belatedly catching up on my Monthly Musings reading 🙂

Camp Gigi sounds like so much fun! I will also be getting driven around by my beginning driver 🙂
