Reading Lately – 5/29/25

Happy Thursday! It’s almost the end of the month, so I am sharing the books I read this month and what I am currently reading. I am linking up with the Share Your Shelf ladies – Joanne, Marilyn, Tanya, and Jenn – so be sure to check them out next Thursday for other great bookish posts.

I read a lot for school this month. I mean A LOT! That means I didn’t get to read as many adult books as I usually do, but it was still a great month of reading.

The Off-Limits Rule by Sarah Adams ☀️☀️☀️☀️

I love a series and was excited when my Libby hold came in for this book. Sarah Adams books are fun reads and usually involve families. In this book, Lucy is coming back home to Nashville with her young son after things don’t go so well in Atlanta. She’s moving in with her brother and trying to get back on her feet. When she meets her brother’s former roommate and good friend, she can feel the chemistry. The only problem is her brother has forbidden the two of them to date. They try to avoid their attraction, but you can’t fight that forever. I thought this was great and started the second in the series as soon as I could.

Battle of the Bookstores by Ali Brady – Coming June 3rd ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
**2025 Sunshine and Books Summer Beach Read**

I received an ARC of this book thanks to Dara and #TeamFakeDating for Ali Brady’s battle of the traveling ARC. They select a few team captains and send out advanced reader copies (ARCs) to them. The captains select teams and send the books around to gather as many readers as possible. I was so excited to participate! I love Ali Brady books and this was no exception. The duo has written books about the beach (love), summer (love), and families (love). This time they added another favorite topic books and indie bookstores! In this book Josie and Ryan are managers of bookstores that are now competing to stay open and take over the other’s shop. Josie’s store sells literature, serious literature. Ryan’s store sells any kind of romance books. The two stores could not be more opposite and neither could Josie and Ryan. The two are inperson enemies. They are both part of an anonymous online booksellers platform and have no idea that they are online friends. The twists and turns as they get to know each other are so fun and so fantastically bookish. This is a book for book lovers and I loved it!

The Temporary Roomie by Sarah Adams ☀️☀️☀️☀️

This is the second book in the Nashville series and I thought it was great! I enjoyed picking up with Lucy’s brother Drew and Lucy’s boss/friend Jessie. Jessie decided she hated Drew before she even met him after she wasn’t there when Lucy needed him. Now Jessie is stuck as his roommate. Her house has mold and needs to be completely renovated. Jessie is pregnant and cannot be there while this is going on. Drew has space for a roommate and is happy to have Jessie move it. The two of them are trying to figure out how to make the next few weeks tolerable and there are some big bumps in the road. They play pranks on each other, stand in as fake boyfriends and girlfriends (fiance), and do anything they can to make the other’s life miserable. As you can imagine, all of that pranking and plotting turns them from enemies, to friends, to even more. This was a perfect escape book and if there was a book three, I would definitely read it!

 Books for School

As a reminder, I do not add a rating for kids books. I am happy to share my sunshine rating and thoughts if you would like to email me, but as an elementary school librarian in a county with many book challenges I do not feel comfortable publishing them here. It stinks, but that is the way it is right now.

These books have been nominated for the Black-Eyed Susan Book Award. This is a student choice award. The books are selected by school and public librarians, so they are usually well liked and interesting.

You can always checkout what I’ve been reading on my Books 2025 page. I have all of my yearly reading pages linked here if you want to see what I’ve been reading for the last 7 years.

I shared my 2025 Summer Beach Reads last week if you are wondering what I’ll be reading in the next few months.

I have two more books to read from the Black-Eyed Susan award list, but I am not sure I will get to them before school is over. I am so ready to relax into my Summer Beach Reads. What did you read this month? Do you ever read children’s books or YA books? There are some great books that adults would enjoy, too! Did you add any of these to your TBR? Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I really like Sarah Adams books. I can’t wait for her next new one to come out and I didn’t know about The Off Limits Rule! Excited! I can’t get that one at my library but I have a Barnes and Noble and Target gift card.
