Hello Monday – 5/12/25

Happy Monday! I’m starting the week with Holly and all of you! I hope you’ll link up with us for Hello Monday!

I am sharing EIGHT GREAT things from our weekend. This was a great weekend with some productivity and celebrations.

1 – I started Friday afternoon working. Not my favorite way to to start the weekend, but I wanted to get a few things done before the weekend started. My kindergarten classes have been working hard going through the research process – asking questions, identifying good sources, and then recording the answers to their questions using pictures and words. I am so proud of them!

2 – I was in the mood for popcorn on Friday afternoon. We didn’t have any microwave popcorn so I looked it up and figured out how to make it on the stove. I know, I know, it is super easy but I’ve never done it before.

3 – Our neighbors across the street are moving this week and I am so sad. We had a happy hour that turned into a late night. It was fun to hangout one last time. I am really going to miss them! Matt was the one that put the lights across the street at Christmas. They were one of the first people we met when we moved in 12 years ago. Matt’s daughter is the same age as Jack so they were often in our backyard playing. They’re leaving some big shoes to fill in the neighborhood!

I had this yummy combo. The Orange Smash cans are strong – 10% – and I cannot hang like that. I mix them with this orange seltzer so it dilutes the alcohol a bit but keeps the yummy orange flavor. It’s delicious!

4 – Luke had a lacrosse game on Saturday morning and it was a good game. It is always intense when we play that team. I was proud of our guys for keeping their cool and not giving up.

5 – The boys had their swim team party on Saturday afternoon. It was fun. The food was fabulous and the company was even better. The coaches talk about all the seniors and they give a speech. We knew most of the seniors pretty well this year so it was neat to hear their favorite swimming memories and what they are heading off to do next year. Jack has a bunch of buddies that were there and quite a few came home with us. They are so funny to listen to while I’m driving along.

6 – Luke had a soccer game on Sunday morning and I was thrilled to walk the track while the team warmed up. His team won and the team manager had roses for the boys to give their moms. It was so sweet!

7 – In Maryland, we have an old wive’s tale type rule that you don’t plant anything in the ground until Mother’s Day. We so very rarely have a frost after Mother’s Day that it’s a safe time. I planted flowers in my hanging baskets, planters, and a few pots. Jeff mulched the front and side garden beds, too.

8 – My parents came over for dinner. We have a tradition of having crabs on the deck for Mother’s Day and it is one of my favorites. The boys picked their own crabs and ate a few this time which was so fun. We took our annual pictures before my parents headed home for the night. 😍

I hope you had eight great things happen this weekend, too! I am looking forward to this week, but it’s going to be a busy one. Jack has a golf match, Luke had some PT appointments, both kids have haircuts, and they are getting confirmed on Sunday evening. We are excited for them and proud of all the work they have put into getting ready for this sacrament. If you blogged today, be sure to link up with us below. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

It’s so hard when good neighbors move. Love your Mother’s Day photos! We have the same planting rule. Hadley and I were out of town all weekend, and when I pulled up to the house, I saw that Trav had planted flowers, hung the ferns I always get for Mother’s Day and potted flowers in new planters for me. It was a welcome sight after the four hour drive home.

What a fun weekend! So much goodness! Love your crab tradition- so fun. We have the same wives tale up here in New England but is is Memorial Day Weekend BUT I may plant a little earlier this year because I can’t help myself! 🙂

It sounds like your kindergarten classes are doing really well.
I’ve never made popcorn from scratch before, we’ve either bought it ready made or used the microwave!
It sounds like a full and lovely weekend! What a lovely Mother’s Day.

I know it’s hard to loose neighbors who are also good freinds! I enjoyed seeing your kindergarten class’ answers. I usually wait until the end of may to plant as we can have a night snowfall until then, but I may place some marigold seeds in planters this week–thery sare one of the few flowers that the deer don’t eat!

Fun little note – you can put popcorn in a lunch paper bag – & fold up the top &put in the microwave & it works just the same 😉 I think you have to add a little bit of oil…. you can find it on the internet for the details but I’ve done it before a few times & its delish!

So many fun things to comment on. First of all I feel like lacrosse across the board in Maryland is intense : ) So sad you’re losing good neighbors. That’s a tough one, and hopefully new friends move in. A crab feast on Mother’s Day would be my favorite too. Glad you had a happy Mother’s Day!

What a wonderful weekend! I hope whatever new neighbors you have turn out great. It’s hard to say goodbye to great neighbors.
