Wednesday Hodgepodge – 3/26/25

Happy Wednesday! I am joining Joyce for a quick hodgepodge of questions. These five questions are going to be fun, so let’s get to it!

1. Spring has officially sprung (in the northern hemisphere anyway)…did she roll in more like a lion or more like a lamb in your neck of the woods? What needs more of your attention in terms of a good spring clean this year-your house or your garden/yard?
Spring has been more of a lion than a lamb this year. There have been a few warmer days, but the wind has been so blustery. I am ready for some lamb days, please! I think our house and garden are both in pretty good shape. It’s too early to do my spring flower planting, but I do need to start thinking about it.

2. What’s put a spring in your step lately?
The sun staying up later has put a big spring in my step. I am enjoying that extra sunshine to run or walk or read.

3. When you were a kid, what was the best snack to find in your lunchbox? If you didn’t do the lunchbox thing, tell us what was your favorite after school snack.
I loved when we had Little Debbie fudge cakes as a treat! I also loved when my mom made peanut butter bars or freckle bars for our lunches.

4. In what area of your life are you planting seeds?
I am starting to plant the seeds of our summer. This summer is going to be different than our summers in the past, but it is ok. There are quite a few things I am trying to figure out and make work.
I am hoping that the local farms are planting some seeds too because I want to bring back our vegetable garden this year. We usually start it from seedlings, not actual seeds, so I hope they have some good ones for us.

5. Why do you live where you do? Would you consider living somewhere else? Why or why not?
I live where I do because it is close to family. I lived in North Carolina for a year after I graduated from college, but moved back to Maryland because I met Jeff and he was in grad school at the time. I thought we’d stay in Maryland for 3 years or less and then head south. 22 years later, we are still here. My parents are 25 minutes away and Jeff’s are 35 minutes away. I love that we are close to our parents and my kids have their grandparents close by. I would love to live somewhere warmer and closer to a beach. I don’t need to live on the beach, but it would be nice to be there in under 30 minutes. I love warm and hot weather and I don’t think I would ever get tired of it.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
The forecast says it is going to be 80 degrees on Saturday and I am so ready for it!
We are heading into birthday season and I am not ready for it. Both kids are having a hard time telling me what they want, how they want to celebrate, even picking out what kind of cake they want. I understand that it’s hard to pick sometimes, but time is a-ticking here and we need to make some decisions before the actual day!

That was fun! I can’t wait to see what everyone else answered! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I would love to live closer to the beach too- we are about 40 minutes away but that is my goal for sure- we are a ways away from those years- ha! SO JEALOUS of your Saturday weather- can’t wait to see how you take advantage of the 80 degrees 🙂 Good luck with your garden- I need some inspiration in that department

How nice to live near both parents! Enjoy your warm weather coming. It has been a windy March here as well. I also grew up in the Little Debbie snack culture :). Enjoy your day!

I hope you get some more spring like days soon, we seem to be getting more and more warmer days here. Our clocks change on Sunday so I am looking forward to the longer days.
Living near a beach would be wonderful, my fella and I have already said we want to move closer to the coast when we retire.
I have found the older my girls get the harder it is to get answers from them about what they want and how they want to celebrate their birthdays.

I am ready for some lamb days too! I always assumed I’d move south and live in a warmer/closer to the beach spot too but it is so hard to move away from family (plus I knew when I met my husband we were stuck here since he was already working in the business he eventually took over).

Speaking as a grandparent, it’s nice you’re nearby. I am in SC, not the coast but the Upstate which is beautiful. I love the mountains and we’re on a lake surrounded by them. We loved living in Maryland, and considered retiring on the Eastern Shore or in the Annapolis area, but the taxes and the winters are too much. We get four seasons here, fall is my favorite, summer we’re in the lake pretty much 100% of the time, and winters are mild. Enjoy that 80 degree weather and all the birthday planning!

Oh, I didn’t think of that but yes! Later light is so magical. As much as I don’t want it to be in the 90s, I do look forward to the days of high summer where it’s so light.

  7. Tanya says:

I wish I could send some of our Houston heat to you…ha, ha! Summers definitely get trickier as the kids get older. Scheduling can get challenging!

Loved reading your responses. It’s been so windy here! You’re so lucky to live near family. I want my kids to do what they need/want to do but I think they know that sometimes it been hard for me not living near my parents. I’m thankful my brother is nearby. My dad always had Little Debbie’s hidden away in the cabinet 😂that was a fun memory.

Ahhh, to live near a beach. Well, not in Kansas lol. I also prefer the wamer AND the hot temperatures. I’ve always loved spring and summer here. And yes, the extra sunlight sure does help a body. We’re blessed that our family all live in the same small town as we do. Not much more than a mile to any of them. Little Debbie snacks, I miss them…. I stay away from suger nowadays. But thanks for making me want to go get some lol!
