Hello Monday – 12/9/24

Happy Monday! I’m here with Holly sharing some fun from our weekend. I hope you’ll link up with us for Hello Monday!

I usually do an EIGHT GREAT post on Monday, but today I am just sharing our weekend. There were definitley more than eight great things, most of them are the same thing – SWIMMING! Jack and Luke swam in a three day meet this weekend. We headed out of town at 5 am on Friday morning and were poolside by 6:30. I was worried about traffic and we were there in plenty of time. Check out the stands… ha!

By the start of the meet all three days, the stands were packed and there was at least one row of people standing up. Plus there were a bunch of people out in the lobby. I love watching swimming and cheering for kids that we know so I parked myself here all three days and cheered everyone on!

This swim meet is a fast meet and teams have a limited number of swimmers they can bring. Our team gives the kids that go a gift, usually a tshirt but sometimes a hat or other item. Jack was invited for the first time 5 years ago and he was so excited to have his travel team shirt. How cute was he???

This year they got these green shirts. It’s not our team color, but I love them!

On Friday morning, the boys swam two events and got best times in both events. It was a great start to the weekend! We went to lunch with friends and hit up Trader Joe’s before we could check in to the hotel. A few of their teammates made it back to finals (top 16 or top 8 in each event) so we went out for pasta and headed back to the pool to watch their teammates swim. Finals (the evening session) is so fun to watch!

They were cheering on some teammates and Jack saw some of his high school teammates that swim for different clubs.

The kids headed to bed pretty early and the grownups hung out in the hotel lobby for a bit and had a glass of wine or two. We weren’t up too late either because swim meets start early in the morning!

On Saturday we were up early for breakfast and at the pool by 7 for another great morning of swims!

Warmups always feel so crowded to me, even though I swam in warmups just like these 30 years ago.

After everyone finished, the kids from our area organized meeting for lunch at Chipotle. By no coincidence at all, there was a PGA Superstore in the same shopping center. When we were finished eating, we spent two hours in the PGA Superstore hitting golf balls and trying out new clubs. The kids had a blast!

Just the boys – the girls were in the next booth.

We went back to the room for a bit so the kids could rest and I went for a walk. It was chilly but felt good to get moving.

Did you notice something??? I wasn’t at the pool all day! Jack and Luke swam in the same session at this meet so we had a bunch of free time. It was great but felt so weird!

We went back for finals early and then grabbed dinner on the way home. The boys went to bed pretty early again and the grownups hung out in the lobby for a little while. We had another early wakeup on Sunday.

Sunday morning was much like Saturday – up, breakfast, pool by 7. The kids’ swims all look the same in photos so here are a couple.

Two years ago at this meet, the fire alarm went off while Luke was swimming. He kept swimming and had a great swim. This year, everyone else in his heat scratched and he had to swim it by himself. It’s tough to pace yourself swimming solo, but he dropped a TON of time. This event seems to be his “what the heck is happening” event at this meet, but it has gone in his favor every time. There are 8 lanes in the boys pool and 9 in the girls pool and only two kids were swimming while Luke did his 200 breastroke. There was a girl in the same situation! Wild!

It was so nice to not have to rush in the morning. We were able to get extended checkout and come back to pack up after the morning session was over.

It was a great weekend of swimming! Jack and Luke both qualified for Junior Champs in March in a few new events. They both swam seven events and got best times in all 7!

Jack went home with a friend because Luke had an indoor soccer game on the way home. Luckily it was about an hour ride and Luke could rest a bit. He had a great game, scored a goal, and his team won big.

We came home, unpacked, and got ready for the week. Jeff and I went for a walk to catch up. He stayed home because he had to work on Friday and Sunday. I was ready to sleep in my own bed and headed there early. I tuned into the Hallmark movie Christmas Camp. I read Christmas Camp a few years ago (Christmas Books 2020) so it was fun to watch the movie while I wrote this post.

We had a great weekend and I am so proud of the hard work the boys have been doing in the pool. It was so fun and they are ready to get back in the pool and keep working!

It’s the second Monday of the month so I am linking up with the Share Our Lives ladies, JenJoanneSarahDara, and Adrienne. Today we are sharing our favorite smells.

I love citrus smells! I love the smell of the ocean! I love the smell of brownies or cookies baking! I love the smell of a roast in the oven! I love the smell of garlic cooking! I love the smell of Aruba Aloe lotion (and it reminds me of our fun time there)! I love the smell of coconut sunscreen!

My favorite smells are associated with warm, outside places and cozy memories. What are your favorite smells?

I don’t think our week is going to be too busy, but I have been surprised with how things pop up the past two weeks, so we’ll see. If you blogged today, please link up with us below! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I think if I were to go to a swim meet now I would have a major hot flash! I can still smell and feel what the indoor pools were like and I haven’t been to one since the 80s!

I associated all my favourite smells with memories too. I never thought of garlic cooking, I love the smell of that!
