Wednesday Hodgepodge – 5/22/24

Happy Wednesday! I am joining Joyce for a quick hodgepodge of questions. These five questions are going to be fun, so let’s get to it!

1. What are you currently juggling in your life?

EVERYTHING!! Absolutely everything! It is the end of May and I am juggling it all. We have soccer tryouts, soccer practice, soccer tournaments, lacrosse practice, lacrosse tournaments, golf, end of season parties, studying for final exams, modified school schedules, band concerts, graduation at work for Jeff, Summer Reading presentations, Play Day, retirement parties, the pool opening, I am sure I am forgetting to list something here…

Oh, and I have to get groceries, make the meals, keep the house picked up, exercise, and go to work each day. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and it is the sun reflecting off the pool. We have 13 days of school left and it will all get done.

2. How often do you buy new clothes? What was the last piece of clothing you purchased?

Way more often than I should! The most recent thing I bought was a bathing suit. The most recent regular clothing I bought was that fantastic dress from Hanna Andersson. I actually bought 2! I got the strawberry dress and the same dress with lemons.

3. What food festival would you most like to attend?

While I’d love to go to Oktoberfest, I am not a big fan of German food. I think the Cooper’s Hill Cheese Rolling festival would be really fun to see. We’ve watched it on television before and it’s a riot, even though it can be dangerous. I’m always looking for a reason, real or hypothetical, to travel so an international food festival sounds great. If I am staying in the US, the New Orleans Food and Wine experience sounds lovely! When we were in Destin in February, we just missed the Gumbo festival and that sounded like something I’d like to visit, too. I love an experience and would have fun at pretty much any food festival, even though I am not the most adventurous day to day eater.

4. May is the 5th month of the year. Tell us something you remember about your 5th grade year.

I had the best teacher in 5th grade. Mrs. Cote was so kind and encouraging! I actually ran into her a few years ago and all I could do was smile when I saw her. There were so many great things about 5th grade. We had a class play and I loved my outfit/costume. It was orange shorts and an orange and yellow striped top. I broke my foot in 5th grade and remember drinking pitchers of Kool-aid and watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off when I was home on the couch for a few days.

5. What are your favorite five words right now?

Hooray, the sun is shining!

If I am choosing words that aren’t a sentence, I’d pick family, sunshine, smile, Go!, and dishwasher. The first three are things that make me happy. The fourth might be my most common word said in the form of “GOOOOO!!!!” or “Let’s go!” The fifth one because that dishwasher has been working hard and this time last year I did not have a working dishwasher. I am sure that things would not be going as well as they are if I had to add dishes to the list of things I am juggling in question number 1.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I have been thinking about the kind of summer I want to have lately. It’s going to be different. We are going on vacation different weeks than we usually do, Jack is working, and I want to have a good mix of relaxing and on the go. I have a few day trips that I’d like to take with the boys. Summer Sarah is oh so ready to be back!

Those were fun questions! What are your five favorite words right now? I’d love to hear them! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

  1. Joanne says:

Yeah, summer definitely starts looking different as the kids get jobs and then start driving… but it’s stull fun and it’s still summer! 🙂 I love your 5 words. I too am pretty sure I purchase clothing far too often.

Fun questions! My answer to #1 would be the same. I’m holding on for dear life. I agree about summer too – I’m hopeful it will be a good mix of relaxation, memories and productivity

  3. Marilyn says:

May is such a busy season as everyone mentally seems to already be in summer mode! I laughed at the memory of drinking pitchers of kool-aid, as we did the same thing as kids.

  4. allstarme says:

Man, I understand your #1! I am actually surprised we have so little of those sports things now but my oldest stopped playing, my middle skipped spring soccer, and my daughter had her last dance recital last weekend. So it’s slowed down a bit for us but for a few years there, that was me. May is always crazy!

  5. Monica says:

oh my! I remember those days of going nonstop! Sometimes I miss them but most days I enjoy the slower pace of life. Sunshine = lots of vitamin D!!! yay!

  6. Ellen says:

This time of year can really be overwhelming when you have kids in school and sports and other things! I can still remember the craziness of the end of the school year and diving into summer sports even though I’m am well beyond those years. Sounds like you have some fun plans for summer! Hope you have a peaceful Memorial Day weekend.

  7. Tanya says:

My summers definitely changed as the kids got older and into the teen years. Instead of hanging at the pool with them, they were working or hanging out with friends. It’s a great idea to decide how you want YOUR summer to look. Summer Sarah…love it!

  8. Joyce says:

While it feels like summer stretches endlessly in front of us it does somehow fly by and I like to have a few things planned so that what I want to do and how I want to feel doesn’t get lost. We live on a lake so always have a lot of houseguests in the summer. It’s a fun kind of busy! Enjoy your weekend!
