Reading Lately – 2/27/24

Happy Tuesday! I am linking up with Shooting Stars for a reading update and Joanne for Talking About It Tuesdays to show you the books I read this month.

The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods ☀️☀️☀️☀️

This is the book that Jeff picked for me for Jolabokaflod. I had never heard of it, but I loved it. There was a bit of magical realism, which is not something I usually read, but it was great. The dual timelines took me a little time to figure out because their names were fairly similar. I learned a bit about English and Irish history in this book, too. The characters are all looking for the lost bookshop. It seems to appear and disappear depending on who is shopping. It held my attention the whole time and I read half of it in a day or so sitting at a swim meet.

Studies at the School by the Sea by Jenny Colgan out March 26, 2024 ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

I was so excited to read this book. I loved the first three in the series – Class, Lessons, and Rules – and was anxiously awaiting the next installment. I thought there were going to be six in the series, but it seems this could be the last one. It was so great to see Maggie and her students again. Maggie is still torn between her Scottish family and hometown and her live in Englad with her former colleague and love interest David. I hope this really isn’t the end of the story! Do you hear me Jenny?? Please keep this series going! **Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest reveiw.**

The Valentine Inn by Jennifer Peel ☀️☀️☀️☀️

I downloaded this one as a fun Valentine’s Day themed book. It was just that. It was light and a fun love story. Charlotte used to be a personal assistant to Drake, a Hollywood heartthrob. They had one magical night while stuck at an inn. After they get back to California, Charlotte quits and hasn’t spoken to Drake in years. She tried to contact him to share some very important information but was unable to. After an unfortunate turn of events, Charlotte and her sister bought the inn and are renovating it. One night, Drake is back in town for a movie and decides to spend a night at the inn. Charlotte is quite surprised and so is Drake when he discovers what Charlotte was trying to tell him years ago. This is a fun book that was perfect for a February Valentine’s Day read.

Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead by Elle Cosimano ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun by Elle Cosimano ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

I read the first Finlay Donovan book last year and I enjoyed it. Elle Cosimano is coming to my town next month on tour for the fourth book in the series. I’m excited to meet her, but I needed to read these two books before I read the fourth. I think Finlay Donovan is a hoot, but she sure does get herself into more trouble while she’s trying to get herself and her nanny, Vero, out of trouble. Finlay is an author who is trying to meet her deadlines, while keeping her ex-husband away from the person trying to kill him, be a great mom, and solve the mystery of who is after her ex-husband. I am a bit of a ninny and the suspense in these books tends to keep me up reading. I was up until midnight on Sunday finishing Finlay Donovan Jumps the Gun. It ended with a big cliff hanger and I can’t wait to read the Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice when I get it on March 12th.

Currently Reading: The Paid Bridesmaid by Sariah Wilson

You can always checkout what I’ve been reading on my Books 2024 page. I have all of my yearly reading pages linked here if you want to see what I’ve been reading for the last 5 years.

That makes twelve books this year and a pretty great reading start to 2024! Have you read any of these? What have you been reading lately? Do you have any books that you recommend? I am not sure what my March reading update will look like. I am in the middle of a 4 week class and am taking another one right after that. Eight weeks of grad level courses can leave me without a ton of extra reading time. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

  1. Joanne says:

I’ve read the last three and enjoyed them a lot. I’ll have to check out The Lost Bookshop since I still a magical Realism book for my 52 books challenge and I had no idea what to read.
