Hello Monday – 12/5/22

Happy Monday! I’m here with Holly sharing some fun from our weekend. I hope you’ll link up with us for Hello Monday!

The boys swam in a travel swim meet this weekend and we made the most of it! Jeff had the cooler packed and the boys ready so I could swing home after family Book Fair night and hit the road. Unfortunately Jeff had to work on Saturday so he stayed home while I took the boys to the meet. We got there around 8:45 on Friday night, checked into the hotel, and headed to bed.

We were up and in the lobby at 7 for breakfast before heading over to the meet. Jack had warmups at 7:45. Luke and I found our spot in the stands and got comfy. Jack swam three events and dropped time in all three. Woohoo!

Luke had warmups at 11:30. Once he was on deck with the coaches, Jack asked to go back to the hotel to rest and watch the World Cup. I took him back thinking Luke would be finished by 2.

Well, during Luke’s second event the fire alarm went off. Everything was ok but they evacuated the building. Luke kept swimming his 200 yard breaststroke and ended up getting a best time by over 7 seconds. I stayed in the stands to watch him finish and met him outside. He literally finished, got out of the pool, and went right outside. No shoes, shirt, towel, or anything! Luckily I had his sweatshirt with me and some teammates grabbed their things so he could share a towel to stay warm. They couldn’t get the alarm to turn off and we were outside for over an hour before they canceled the session. I have been involved in year round swimming for 35 years and something like this has never happened!

When we got back to the hotel, we were all hungry so they boys got changed and we went to Big Buns. It is a burger quick service restaurant and it was delicious! Luke had chicken tenders, but Jack and I had burgers. We had the regular and Cajun fries and they were so yummy!

I was looking for a Christmas lights display and found a walk through one. The weather wasn’t too cold and it was just enough to get us moving without tiring them out for the meet on Sunday. We went to Meadowlark Botanical Gardens and the lights were so pretty.

We headed back to the hotel and the kids showered and got ready for bed while I sat in the lobby with a few other swim parents. It was nice to get to know them. We are all usually picking up and dropping off at the same times but don’t have a chance to talk.

On Sunday we were up early again for 7:30 warm ups. Jack swam really well again and got all best times! Luke had to swim 4 events because of the fire alarm on Saturday. He swam really well in the first two but then got a little tired. He was right on his best times in the last two events. Overall, it was a great meet for Jack and Luke!

I was excited to see a friend who I was in a book club with 10 years ago. Her son swam right next to Jack, small world right?

This is probably the last time the boys saw each other, in 2009!

During all my spectating, I finished A Magical New York Christmas by Anita Hughes. It was so cute and I loved all the Plaza and Eloise references. Thanks for the recommendation Jen! I’m still reading Meet Me Under the Mistletoe and have a few more Christmas books lined up to read this month.

It was great to have some one on one time with Jack and Luke while the other brother was swimming.

We got home on Sunday evening and got ready for the week. Jeff and I keep saying that this week will be pretty calm, but I am fairy certain we are just fooling ourselves. 😂 Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

What a full and fun weekend! I just picked up Christmas in Vermont by the same author. I also have the others you mentioned on request and I hope I can get them all in.

Other than the fire alarm I think that sounds like a really fun weekend! Glad it wasn’t freezing cold when you had to evacuate. I’ll never forget swimming at our indoor pool in the winter with my friend Stacy; while waiting outside to get picked up here ponytail froze into a giant icicle!

I’m glad everything was ok but that’s so funny that Luke kept swimming. I love swim meets and always think it’s so neat to see kids improving their times (same with cross country) The light display is so pretty and great way to spend an evening 🙂 I hope you all have a great week.

It is so fun to cheer the kids on and watch them improve! Jack kept asking why I was cheering so loudly when they couldn’t hear me. I told him that I just get so excited and proud to watch them race that the cheering is a place to bottle all that energy.

Sounds like a fun weekend minus the fire alarm incident. I am sad I am seeing this post a little late. I needed some new Christmas book recommendations. I just bought Susan Mallery’s newest Christmas book “Home Sweet Christmas”. I hope I didn’t need to read “The Christmas Wedding Guest” first. Have a great week!

Congratulations to Jack and Luke on a great swim meet! Sounds like you guys had a great weekend. Brrrr it must have been cold standing outside waiting for the alarm to get sorted.
