Wednesday Hodgepodge – 2/25/26

Happy Wednesday! I am joining Joyce for a quick hodgepodge of questions. These five questions are going to be fun, so let’s get to it!

1. America celebrates turning 250 years old this year. Primary cities set to lead the celebrations on July 4th are Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C. Other significant locations for celebrating will be Charleston SC and the ‘historic triangle’ which includes Jamestown-Willimasburg-Yorktown Virginia.  Of the cities listed how many have you seen in person? Of the cities listed which would you most like to visit this year? Any plans to do so? What’s one place in America you think everyone should see? If you’re not American what’s one place in the US you’d like to see?
I have been to all of those cities listed. I am going to visit Charleston, SC soon but not for the 250th birthday. We will probably go to Washington DC this year too because it is so close. I think Washington DC and Philadelphia are important cities because there is so much history there. There are a lot of fun ways to learn and appreciate the history of America.

2. Three sounds you love to hear?

  • The front door opening because my family or friends are arriving.
  • Laughter, there’s nothing better. It’s contagious and the original laugher is probably having a great time.
  • Water splashing or moving outside. I love the beach and the pool and their soundtrack is water. I do not love to hear water moving inside because leaks are never fun.

3. Three sounds you hate to hear?

  • The five million beeps from our microwave. I heard it. The food is done. I’ll be there in a second.
  • Sirens. When I was little ambulances used to drive by our house a lot and my mom would always say “someone’s having a baby.” I know that isn’t true now but it did keep us from worrying about something bad happening to someone. As an adult, I worry when I hear sirens. Jack’s driving. His friends are driving. There are a lot of crazy people on the road and it makes me nervous when I hear those sirens.
  • Lips smacking. I cannot stand it when people smack their lips while eating or chewing gum. It makes me absolutely crazy!

4. February 24th is/was National Tortilla Chip Day. Are you a fan? With salsa, guacamole, queso, or just plain please? Do you like nachos? With what on top? Is there anything (besides nachos) you make that calls for tortilla chips?
I LOVE TORTILLA CHIPS!! I like them plain, with salsa, with queso, with guacamole, with sour cream, with beef, with chicken, with avocado, with melted cheese or shredded cold cheese, with tomatoes, with black or refried beans. I love them! My favorites are Torti-yahs. The regular flavor and lime flavor are my favorites. They are the perfect sturdiness for dipping but don’t get too thick. We use tortillas with a taco/buritto bowl, buffalo chicken dip, spinach artichoke dip, tortilla soup, and chili (if we’re out of Fritos).

5. We March into March with next week’s Hodgepodge…what’s one thing on your March calendar that makes you smile?
Before I answer, I would like to say whoa, February is flying by! I have quite a few things on my March calendar that make me smile. Luke has two championship swim meets. Jack’s golf season is starting. We are going someplace that should be warm. Jack’s birthday. Spring forward means we’ll have more daylight in the evenings to enjoy.

6. Insert your own random thought here.
Hopefully we had our last snow day of the year on Monday. I decided to make it a good balance of productive and relaxing. Instead of making my usual To Do list, I made a Ta Da list to celebrate all the things I got done. Here it is:

  • Enjoyed The Today show
  • Hello Monday comments and replies
  • Full body Peloton strength workout
  • Read a few chapters of The Favorites
  • Read Millie Magnus Won’t Be Bullied
  • Folded and put away 2 weeks of sheets and towels
  • Listened to two podcasts
  • Did a few word searches
  • Walked 25 minutes on the treadmill
  • Made dinner (pork tenderloin) and ate with the family
  • Caught up on pool membership emails
  • Helped Jeff find
  • Caught up on the pool membership spreadsheet
  • Painted my nails Rosy Tips – I love it!
  • Read a little more of The Favorites

That was fun! I can’t wait to see what everyone else answered! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

Oh, I love that sound of the door opening as friends and family are coming. Tortilla chips are a favorite of mine too and I love the lime flavored. I just bought 2 bags over the weekend. Have a good day!

  2. Joanne says:

I would love for Mondays storm to be the last one… but it sounds like we could get another 12-18″ this coming Monday. Gosh I hope they are wrong. Alec’s college canceled all in person midterms and classes this week as they are still digging themselves out…

  3. Kim Carberry says:

I would like to visit Washington DC and Philadelphia for the history. Fab photos from your travels!
The front door opening is such a great sound which usually leads to a lot of laughter! I am with you with all the noise the microwave makes, ours is the same and sirens always put on edge.
It sounds like you have some great plans for March and I love your Ta Da list!

I like your ta-da list! This feels like a good time to read The Favorites. I enjoyed that one. The microwave beeps are crazy. The old ones did not ‘talk to you’ nearly as much as the new ones do. Have a great day!
