Currently & Hodgepodge- 2/4/26

Happy Wednesday! It’s the first Wednesday of the month and I am linking up with Amy to share five things I am currently doing. I am also joining Joyce for the Hodgepodge so keep on reading.

I usually use my monthly currently graphic, but this one is too pretty to skip!

Each month we share five different things and I think it’s a fun way to think about what’s going on.

I am loving…

The Olympic excitement! I cannot wait to watch the Opening Ceremony twice. I will probably watch it live when I get home from work and then again on prime time coverage. I simply cannot get enough! I shared an Olympic spirit post a few years ago. My love has only grown from there!

Watching my guys swim! I was looking at my calendar and I realized that I will be at a swim meet for 6 of the first 11 weekends this year and that doesn’t count the weekday swim meets for high school. It is a good thing I love them and so do the boys! Luke qualified for our 14 & under state meet last weekend and he is super pumped (and I am too!!).

I am baking and cooking…

I am cooking dinner at home a good bit. In the past few weeks, I made chili, chicken fajitas, meatball subs, tacos, and fauxmade chicken parm.

I also made muddy buddy Chex mix and we devoured it. It’s so easy and yummy!

I am reading and watching…

Right now I am reading historical fiction. I picked up The Star Society by Gabriella Saab. I saw that it was inspired by Audrey Hepburn, who I love, but didn’t read much more into it. It is a WWII novel and the parallels between what is happening in the book and what is happening in America are very clear. I’m having a hard time picking it up and continuing to read when it looks a lot like what I’m seeing on the news. I want to read The Favorites next if I can get to it before Friday. If I can’t, I’ll read it after the Olympics to keep that spirit going.

I watched the Grammys on Sunday night. I was pleasantly surprised to recognize more artisit than I thought I would. I enjoy music, but I’m not really into music and the newest artists.

I just started Glitter and Gold. It’s a documentary on Netflix about ice dancing. It’s part of my Olympic preparations.

I am savoring…

Our slower evenings. Jack is driving now so he can get himself to and from swim practices and the golf course. Luke has practices after school or goes with Jack to swim practices. I have been running quick errands or coming home after school to start my afternoon. They are going to end soon when Jack has golf after school and Luke has club soccer practices. Then I will be back to the after school pick ups and driving all around in the evenings.

Now that Jack is driving and Luke is coming home from school with Jeff or Jack, I am savoring the car time I have with either boy. Sometimes I am quiet and listen to their music or our audiobook, but it often leads to talking and I love it.

I am planning…

To get as much done ahead of the Olympics so I can devote all my free time to them.

Our spring break, Easter, and summer vacations. I have a hard time committing to the initial decisions, but now that I have watch out! I’m picking hotels, activities, renting cars, and more.

I am also looking for new ideas to add to my meal planning. I’m looking for high protein, veggies, and an easy carb. I am pretty good at chicken, green veggie, and rice, but we are getting a little bored of that. I try to keep our dinners gluten free, but I’m open to any and all ideas you may have to share.

Thanks Amy! Those prompts were fun! Now let’s see what Joyce has for us…

1. The Winter Olympics kick off on Friday, February 6th…on a scale of 1-10 how excited are you? (1= eh and 10=watching every event all day every day). What’s your favorite Winter Olympic sporting event?  Can I be an 11?? I hope so because I am! I’m going to decorate for the Olympics today or tomorrow after school. I can’t wait. I have been watching the US Olympic trials, following the news stories (Lindsay Vonn!! and her knee!), watching documentaries, reading news stories, and more. I. AM. READY! I’m hoping to watch/show some Olympics during the day at school, too! I love all of the Olympic events. ALL OF THEM! I am looking forward to all the skiiing, the skating, ice hockey, the sliding (bobsled, luge, skeleton), and the exciting stories that come from the victories.

Winter Olympics 2022

2. In other sporting news, the Superbowl (American football’s championship game) will be played on Sunday, February 8th. So tell us…what’s your superpower? I think my superpower is finding the positive in any situation. I’m also pretty good at getting things done.

3. Are you a romantic? I am not. I’d prefer small things to show my love cares about me than grand gestures.

4. Blue cheese-yay or nay? How about feta? If you said yes to one or both, what’s a dish you like that calls for one of these? Yes to both! I love cheese!! I like blue cheese with steak, in salad dressing, and with buffalo flavor. I like feta cheese in a Greek salad and in a pasta salad.

5. What’s more important-doing what you love or loving what you do? Ooooo, that’s a toughie. I think it’s important to make time for what you love, especially activities or hobbies that fulfill you. Going back to number 2, loving what you do is important and I try to find something to love in everything I do.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I am trying to find the positive in this freezing, actually below freezing, weather. Here’s what I’ve come up with: the sun is so bright when it reflects off the snow, my electric blanket is so cozy, I’ve never been so excited for 34 degrees as I was yesterday, we haven’t lost power, we only used three snow days so our school year hasn’t been extended (yet), and shoveling can be a great workout! I’m trying to stay positive friends!

Are you getting excited for the Olympics? Do you live somewhere that is freezing? Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I am looking forward to watching the Olympic Opening Ceremony too. That sounds like a lot of swimming for your boys but what fun. Well done to Luke.
I read about the Grammys and there was a lot of music stars that I didn’t recognise. I feel old. lol
That is good that you have managed to find some positives in the freezing weather!

I’m surprised at how many in the HP today are just eh about the Olympics. We love watching. Lindsey Vonn! So awful, and I hope staying in the games isn’t a mistake that lasts a lifetime. I love the stories and love of country we typically see in the games. Enjoy all your viewing!

So funny! I was saying that the temps being in the 30’s this week feels like a heat wave- crazy! Love your Olympic spirit- are the opening ceremonies Friday night? Excited to start watching

I like to mix up our carbs so one night we have rice, another we have quinoa, one night we’ll have farro or brown rice, or wild rice, or potatoes. Then I tend to mix up the veggie too (though we always have salad since there are few cooked vegetables that my boys actually eat). Our protein gets swapped out between pork, chicken, fish/shell fish, red meat, turkey. That way even just swapping out the 3 components we get completely different meals. The snow definitely makes the sun and even the moon seem so bright this week! I can’t go anywhere outside without my sunglasses.

I love your Olympic excitement! I can take or leave the summer Olympics but Canada does fairly well in the winter ones (usually) so they’re a little more exciting! And I read The Favorites and really enjoyed it.

Same with the protein and low carb! Trying not to overthink it but it’s hard. But, then with all the snow I also want muddy buddies! I want all the pb and chocolate!
You are my most Olympic loving blog friend so I know you will be watching!
