Wednesday Hodgepodge – 1/21/26

Happy Wednesday! I am joining Joyce for a quick hodgepodge of questions. These five questions are going to be fun, so let’s get to it!

1. Ice skating, skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, playing in the snow, or a snowy walk…which winter activity do you choose? Have you done any of these activities so far this winter? I’ve never been snowshoeing but I think it sounds fun. I love a snowy walk. I’ve skied and ice skated before, but I do not need to do them again. Sledding is always fun! We haven’t gotten enough snow to do much more than take a snowy walk this winter. We’ve had snow a few times, but not in the quantities needed for good sledding.

2. Everyone is posting pictures from ten years ago on their social media sites so let’s jump on the bandwagon too. Share one photo and one thought to go with said photo from the year 2016. And maybe everyone isn’t doing this, but many are and we’re going to be part of the fun. I wasn’t blogging in 2016, but I was taking a lot of pictures. If I had to pick just one, I’d pick this one. My parents took us all to Disney and this was our last night in the park. It was so much fun! Our boys were the perfect ages (5 and 7) and it was everything I hoped it would be!

3. What’s a trend you hope disappears in this new year? It’s not really a trend, but I would love if all the ads on food blogs and websites would disappear! It is maddening how many ads pop up or play when I am trying to find a new recipe. I am ok with ads, I even have them here, but they still allow you to read the content without clicking on or closing ads and videos.

4. ‘They’ say there’s a day for everything and January 21st proves it. National Granola Bar Day. Do you like granola bars? How about just regular granola? Do you like bars of other kinds? I do like granola bars. I also like regular granola, especially in greek yogurt. My favorite right now is the Aldi protein granola. I love my chocolate peanut butter bars. I also like dive bars, beach bars, and swim up bars. 😉

A beach bar in Aruba – perfection!

5.  A frozen lake, a trickling stream, a raging river, or a deep well…which one describes something about your life right now? Elaborate as much or as little as you like. Hmm, I could use most of these. My day to day has been a frozen lake lately. Yesterday the high was 26, it should make it to 49 tomorrow, but Saturday, Sunday, and Monday have highs in the teens right now. Brrr! We are in between a trickling stream and a raging river with a high school junior as we are getting ready for college applications next year. My brain feels like a deep well right now with all the thoughts swirling around. Many people make the analogy of hundreds of tabs open, but that feels slightly more organized than my thoughts are at this moment.

6. Insert your own random thought here. This is definitely random, but I love working in a building full of women. We have some men teachers, but the staff is primarily women. I grew up in a house that was mostly girls and I am the only girl at my house now. Sometimes, it is nice to have someone help you figure out what shoes will be best with your outfit, talk jewelry with, lend an ear and some advice, or just have a little girl talk. Don’t get me wrong, I love the guys at my house and they are great guys, but I appreciate the girl time at work.

That was fun! I can’t wait to see what everyone else answered! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

We have a high of 9 predicted for this Friday with up to another 9 inches of snow possible… I was just saying the other day we haven’t been able to use our snowshoes at all in a few years now because you need at least 6 inches of snow on the ground to use them. I think we might be using them this winter! I have an ad blocker installed on my computer so I don’t get any of the popups when reading blogs or following recipes anymore. It is life changing! It sounds so silly but I can not read them on my phone anymore because not having those ads and then having to deal with them is maddening.

We had a sprinkling of snow but not enough to do anything fun!
How lovely to visit Disney! One day I will get there!
Oh yes! They ads do seem much worse on food blogs, I guess they’re just trying to make money but sometimes I click off and find a recipe elsewhere when the ads are too much.

We are in the polar vortex- historically this upcoming week has always been the coldest of the year so I am trying to stay focused on the light at the end of the tunnel- days are getting longer- we can do it- we can do it! My fave part of this post is the bar in Aruba 🙂

I like a swim up bar too : ) I love Pinterest but I almost never go there anymore because there are so many ads playing and short little videos and it’s so distracting. I don’t think those are the kind of ads that sway us anyway so what’s the point. I just want the recipe please! It’s one reason I still pull out a cookbook now and then. I don’t need to ski again either, but snowshoeing intrigues me and I think I’d like to try that. Have a great day!
