Monthly Musings – 11/20/25

Happy Thursday! It’s the the second to last Thursday of the month so I am linking up with Holly and Patty to answer 10 fun seasonal questions. I love thinking about my answers and seeing everyone else’s answers, too!

This month we are talking about Thanksgiving and holiday prep.

1-Favorite Thanksgiving dishes? My favorites are all about the cans! We always have canned asparagus and I love it! I am not sure why we have it, but it’s a favorite! Another favorite is canned cranberry jelly with ridges! I also like mashed potatoes and rolls. I know, I know, I sound like a kid.

2-Stuffing or dressing? Please share a recipe. We call it stuffing if it is in the bird or in a casserole dish. True story here, I didn’t try stuffing until my 40s. I discovered I like it! Here’s my favorite recipe. Cut the crusts off white bread and pull it into small pieces. Leave it out for a few days to get good and stale. Leave the rest to my mom. 😂

3-Are you hosting any of the holidays this year? Please share your tips. I am hosting Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas day. My best tips are: make all the lists, do as much ahead of time as you can, go with the flow, and have fun with your family and guests because it’s the holidays!

4-Turkey trot or football game? Sure! I think I’ll do a homemade turkey trot this year. I am going to watch the parade with my mom and I’ll go for a walk after that. We’ll watch football later in the day. We used to do a turkey trot all together, but now the guys play golf and I watch the parade with my mom.

5-If you decorate for Christmas, do you decorate before or after Thanksgiving? I shared yesterday that I just might decorate before Thanksgiving this year. It’s so cold and dark right now and I am ready for lights! Two years ago I started decorating before Thanksgiving but I stretched it out over a week and that was tough. I might just bang it out this weekend. The weather looks great on Sunday so I am definitely going to try to do the outside on Sunday.

The Great Wall of Christmas appears when Jeff pulls it all down from the attic. 🤩

6-Are your holidays sit down meals or more casual affairs? Our Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinners are sit down meals. Christmas is more casual. We do heavy appetizers on Christmas day and I love it.

7-Pumpkin or apple pie? Another dessert? Of the two, I pick apple pie, but I don’t love pie. My favorite Thanksgiving dessert was when I made chocolate peanut butter bars with turkeys on top.

8-Are you traveling for Thanksgiving or staying closer to home? We are staying home. My mom is cooking dinner and she lives close to us so we’ll sleep at home. We have traveled for Thanksgiving a few times and I loved how relaxing it was. We left on Monday and came home on Friday and had a few relaxing days leading up to turkey day. I have to work Monday, Tuesday, and a half day on Wednesday so staying home is the best choice this year.

9-Do you Black Friday shop? I shop online on Black Friday, but I do not go out to shop. I’m usually too busy putting up my Christmas decorations. 😉

10-Thing you are most looking forward to this holday season? I can’t pick just one! I am looking forward to the electric lights parade! Celebrating with friends! Looking at Christmas lights! Santa coming through the neighborhood on a fire truck! Wearing festive outfits! I love it all!

Well, that wasy fun! I am so ready for Thanksgiving and Christmas season to get here! Just a few more days of school and we will be there! Hooray! Hooray! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

Those turkeys on top are awesome! Tom’s family likes cold canned asparagus with a cold mayo like dressing on top? I think it’s a southern thing? I think it’s horrible! Lol!

Aww, Santa coming through the neighborhood on Christmas Eve was a favorite thing here too. My sisters and I, even as grown adults, were like little kids when that happened. No canned asparagus for me, but I can eat green beans right out of the can cold as a snack and I suppose that’s not for everyone either. I love seeing all the full table pics today. Happy Thanksgiving!

Ha, and I don’t like anything from a can (or jar) not the cranberry sauce, not the gravy, no vegetables except the fresh ones. LOL Your sprinkle turkeys are so cute and that dessert sounds delicious.

When the kids were in school and had a week off for Thanksgiving, we loved to travel. Now it is a struggle to get everyone together, so for the past 2 years we have gone to see them. Loved all your photos.
