What’s Up Wednesday & Hodgepodge- 10/29/25

Happy Wednesday! It’s the last Wednesday of the month so I am sharing what we’ve been up to. Let’s get to it!

Linking up with Sheaffer and Shay

WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK…

I made a super simple meal plan this week. I wanted to be sure that we ate everything I had planned without too many leftovers, too. We went out Monday and had subs Tuesday. I have chicken and pasta ready for Wednesday and Thursday. Friday is going to be mummy hot dogs for Halloween. Easy peasy.

WHAT I’M LOVING…

I am loving how well the school year is going so far. **knock on wood** I hope I didn’t jinx it there. They both are doing a great job adjusting to the new school and figuring out how to make it work for them.

WHAT I’M DREADING…

Honestly, the time change. It is going to be dark so early. When it gets dark so early, I want to put my pjs on and get ready for bed that much earlier. Unfortunately, the teenagers at my house do not subscribe to this theory.

WHAT I’M WORKING ON…

I am constantly editing my closet. If I put any article of clothing on and it doesn’t feel great, it goes in the donate/consign pile. I don’t really have anything I need to add to my wardrobe, but I do have a few things I’d like to to add. I am looking for a pair of corduroy pants. I am always looking for winter tops to wear with jeans. I am not very good at picking out winter tops because I’d rather wear a warm sweater or pretend it is still summer.

WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT…

Even though our meal plan was super easy this week, I am excited to try some new recipes next week. I found Mary on Instagram a few years ago and realized she lives in the town I grew up in. She is completely gluten free and so are her recipes. I made this pasta bake and it was delicious! I am going to add a few more gluten free and dairy free recipes to the meal plan for next week.

WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING…

I shared what I’ve been reading yesterday and there are some good books in there. I am reading three books right now and I just picked up a few more from the library yesterday.

As I type this on Tuesday night, I am watching the JMU football game! They’re winning now and I hope they keep it up! Go DUUUUUKES!!

This picture is from 2023, but we still love our Dukes!

WHAT I’M WEARING…

I have been wearing some Halloween gear this week to school. I’ve also started wearing my winter coat and I am not happy about it. I know it is the end of October, but it feels like it got cold all of the sudden.

WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND…

The boys’ school has their big rivalry football game on Saturday so we’ll be there. I am hoping to use Sunday to rest a bit and get ready for the week.

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH…

We have a few swim meet weekends! I love Thanksgiving! The Christmas tree and decorations go up! The electric lights parade is in my hometown!

I am also joining Joyce for the Hodgepodge this week. I loved the questions!

1. Are you a risk taker? To what degree? I am a risk taker. I’d say I am more of a physical risk taker than an emotional risk taker. I am always willing to try something once. It usually works out!

2. What’s your favorite candy? Would you say you have a sweet tooth? Reese’s cups, holiday shapes, pieces, and take 5 are my favorite candy. I love them! I absolutely have a sweet tooth. We even had a candy bar at our wedding!

3. Somewhere you’ve been recently that had you feeling ‘like a kid in a candy store’? I went to the mall and shopped in the Lilly Pulitzer store. I went in with a purpose, but I could’ve spent a lot more time looking around and trying things on.

4. What do you think is the most effective way to make a positive change in the world? Just do it. I love the quote “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Interestingly, no one actually said that. While looking for a graphic of it, I learned that it is a simplification of something he said. Either way, I agree. I also think you have to be brave and confident so your adversaries don’t intimidate you.

5. Do you like surprises? Ooo, this is a toughie. My initial answer is no. As I keep thinking about this one, I do like good surprises but they throw me off for a little while.

6. Insert your own random thought here. While I don’t love this colder weather, I am looking forward to hot tea season and my favorite wild sweet orange tea. Always looking for the positive…

Well, I’ve made it halfway through my planned week of 5 day blogging. Thanks for reading along! I’ll be back tomorrow to answer some fun Halloween questions. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I agree with you that it all of a sudden got very cold especially when the week prior was in the 80’s- very hard to adjust when you are a summer gal. That football game sounds like a blast- hope you enjoy. Lilly Pulitzer is like a candy store for me too #soulsisters 🙂

That is great that the new school year is going so well. Our clocks changed early Sunday morning and I am getting into my pj’s earlier too.
Ohh! I forgot about Reese’s cups! I do love those!

We’re having chicken and pasta tonight too! I don’t have much for winter tops either and mostly tend to wear sweaters too. It got cold here rather suddenly too and I am not liking that I need to wear some sort of coat– it always takes me a few weeks to remember that so in the meantime I’m just sort of freezing walking from the car to buildings and back.

Glad the school year is going well. Halloween can be a challenge but at least it’s on a Friday this year : ) It’s chilly here too. We put the fireplace on this morning for a few minutes. We’ve had a rainy week which makes it feel cooler than it actually is. Good for you keeping up with your blog. I feel like once I drop the ball it’s hard to get back in the groove. Have a great day!

It feels like 41 degrees here and it’s raining. I’m not sure how I feel about it- I’m about ready to turn the fireplace on and read in front of it which seems cozy- definitely trying to find the positive ;). The Reese holiday shapes are the best! I almost said the Reese Nutcrackers are my favorite candy of all time. There’s just something about the nutcracker- look for it this season if you haven’t tried them already.

I’m with you on breaking out the winter coat. I have car duty at school in the mornings and have had to wear my coat all week. Then, to top it off, it has been so rainy and dreary all week. Couldn’t we gradually approach winter?!? lol I’m with you on keeping the menu simple. That’s what I try to do each week, but especially on busy weeks like this one. I’m returning to blogging after taking about 8 years off and have loved getting to “meet” new people this week. I look forward to connecting! Lana 🙂

Reese’s is a favorite of mine. I love anything with peanut butter. enjoy an orange spice tea when the weather gets cold. We are having a heat wave and it is 94 today. Enjoy your cooler weather!
