I usually spend Mondays sharing eight great things that happened over the weekend, but today I am joining the Share Our Lives ladies and doing a day in the life. Thanks for hosting Jen, Joanne, Sarah, Dara, and Adrienne. I haven’t done one in a while and thought last Thursday would be perfect because it was pretty close to a regular day. The only thing that isn’t so regular is that I didn’t go to any evening activities. I didn’t drive to swim or soccer practice or a swim meet. I just got to be home.

My weekdays start pretty early. My alarm goes off at 5:20 am. I always hit snooze and close my eyes. When it goes off again at 5:29 am, I wake up and do any blog business I need to that morning (enter link ups, make sure my post went live, etc.). I may read my book for a few minutes or read a few others’ blog posts if I have time. Sometimes, I snooze once more depending on what I am reading.

After I get up, I head to the bathroom to put my contacts in and brush my teeth. I pop over to Jack’s room to make sure he’s up before I get in the shower. After my shower, I start getting myself ready. Jeff’s usually waking up around this time and we make the bed before heading downstairs. I love my steamer and use it a few mornings a week when I decide what I am officially wearing.

I make sure Luke’s moving after his alarm goes off at 6:30 and head down to talk with/at Jack for a few minutes before he leaves. He’s pretty self-sufficient but I do checkin to see if he needs anything for the day. Jeff and Jack leave between 6:40 and 6:45. Sometimes I go back up to finish getting ready (earrings, bracelets) and check on Luke, but this morning Luke was down and I was ready. I pack the boys’ lunches at night and have an idea about my lunch, but I don’t put mine together until the morning. While Luke is having his breakfast shake, I pack my lunch, fill my cups with ice, make his water bottle, and chat with him about the day. I try to be out the door by 7 am, but it doesn’t always happen.

I always listen to the Today Show radio in the mornings. My commute is very short, but it is just long enough to catch the headlines.

My drive is about 5 minutes at the very most. I head in and start turning on the library. I turn on all the lights, open all the doors, get the circulation computer logged in, get the news computer logged in, and pour myself an ice cold Diet Pepsi.

Kids come in and checkout books during our arrival window. I love catching up with my frequent fliers and the kids that don’t come so often in the mornings. The news starts at 7:45 and then I start getting ready to teach. I collect books to check in and make sure my powerpoints and books are ready for the day. My classes are all 30 minutes long. Today I had a fifth grade class from 8:15-8:45. They were working collaboratively to evaluate informationsal websites for research.

Then I had a few hours of planning. During my planning, I collected the rest of the books for the day. I wrote the pink slips for the day. I send little pink slips home with kindergarten and first graders that forgot their book on their checkout day. I finished up entering the data and putting away everything I used for the afterschool tutoring I’ve been doing since October. We finished on Wednesday so I needed to put all the materials away.

I always take attendance at the beginning of classes. Kids could be at the nurse, late, absent, or somewhere else and I need to know where they are. The kids know that my thing is using a fun pen to take attendance. This fun donut glitter pen is from our book fair this year.

Then I started teaching again. My friend Amy works with me and she worked in the afternoon today. So she arrived for kindergarten, first grade, and second grade book checkout. It is truly a two man job! I don’t have actual pictures of the work because I was actively teaching kindergarten, first grade, and second grades. There was not any independent work time like there was in 5th grade. I had two kindergarten classes and we were looking for facts to support our opinions. We were deciding which pet was best – hamsters or pet birds. We recorded facts from PebbleGo and then used the facts to form an opinion. I absolutely LOVE PebbleGo!! After these two classes, it was lunch time (11:45). Thank goodness!

At 12:15, I read this fantastic book to first grade as a review of facts and opinions before we jump into our research project about what insect is the grossest this week.

I had a 30 min planning period and caught up with our incredible parent volunteer who happens to be my friend, too. She comes every Thursday to shelve all the books. Second grade was learning about identifying keywords when researching. We used my favorite database, PebbleGo, again. The article is “What is Culture?” and we picked out words that we would use to teach someone about the topic. This time I printed out the article for them to underline or highlight the keywords.

After I finished my second grade class, I sat down for about 30 minutes and then headed out to do bus duty. I head outside on Tuesdays and Thursdays to make sure everyone walks and makes it on the bus. Bus duty is very important because we need to make sure all those kids go home!

Before I headed home, I ran two quick errands. I needed to have a dress hemmed and we have an incredible tailor at our dry cleaners. I also ran to the grocery store to grab a few things.

It was a little chilly, but the sun was shining and I was happy to be heading home.

When I got home, I had a minute or two before Luke came home. Honestly, I sat down and scrolled on my phone for a minute. When Luke got home, he had a snack and chilled for a few minutes. Then we got started on his makeup work. After being out for a week of school, he had a lot of work to do and we are plowing through it one assignment at a time.

While Luke was working, I made dinner. We were having an egg bake with fruit. I browned the sausage and put it together. When Jeff and Jack texted that they were on the way home from golf practice, I popped it in the oven.

I did some work on the computer before dinner, too. I worked on some membership stuff for the pool. I worked on a blog post (not this one). I caught up on my emails. All the regular stuff.

Once dinner was in the oven, Luke and I went for our now daily walk. He still can’t run or do any strenuous activities, so we are walking every single day to burn off some energy.

After dinner, Jack went up to his room to work on homework and Jeff and I had a calendar meeting to double check we knew what was going on for the next few days.

Luke finished the work he was going to do, Jack finished his work, and we ended up on the couch. I did a little more blog work on the couch.

We all went up to bed around 9:30, but it took a while for everyone to settle in their own rooms. I scrolled on Instagram a little until I took my glasses off to lay down and read. We turned the lights off and I read on my kindle until I fell asleep. I do that just about every single night.

That is a pretty regular day for us. My school days are a mix of teaching, library administration, and planning. I can’t wait to see other day in the life posts. They are so fun! If you blogged today, be sure to link up with us below. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!
