Thursday Thoughts – 1/2/25

Happy New Year! Happy Thursday! I had to double check the day before I started this post on Wednesday night. I have a bunch of different thoughts floating around in my head, so I’m going to share them today. I like to look back at posts to see what I was thinking about and what I was doing so here we go…

☀️Back to life, back to reality… I was singing that in my head all evening as I packed lunches, picked out my clothes for today, and cleaned up some projects. We are back to school today. I loved our long break, but the time after Christmas went so fast. I know everything will be fine when we get back into our routine, but setting all the alarms did not feel so fine.

☀️Now that we are in a new year, I am really thinking about goals, intentions, a word, and habits. I have big ideas and am working on ways to make it happen. I am pretty competitive and I want to acheive my goals (hello enneagram 3), but I am working to shift my perspective. I was listening to The Best of Both Worlds podcast this week and Sarah said that she is happy with 60 or 70 percent success rate on her goals. She doesn’t give up on the big ones, but she does slide them to the next year even if it takes a few years to do it. I’m thinking about that this year.

☀️They are calling for some snow early next week and I am ready for it. I don’t want too much but a snow day or two would be great. I made an ambitious list of things to do over break and didn’t come close to finishing them. A snow day or two would be a welcome time to tackle that list.

☀️I need to set a grocery pickup for Friday so that we have everything we need in case the snow is on the higher end of what they are calling for early next week.

☀️We stayed up until midnight for NYE, but headed to bed after that. I had a hard time falling asleep and stayed up reading for quite a while. Even though we were in pjs and hanging out on the couch, I get excited for midnight. Jack was at a friend’s house and was up until 5 am! Yikes. He was pretty tired, but made it through the day pleasantly. I am usually the parent that would like everyone in bed and asleep by 8:30, but I am all for staying up on NYE.

☀️I love love love Christmas decorations, but I need them put away before I go back to work. The evenings and weekends get busy so I need it put away. I started pulling anything Christmas and put it on the dining room table on Monday. I packed it up Tuesday night and Jeff put it in the attic yesterday. I left the outside lights up because I am not ready for the darkness. I leave our candles in the windows until the time change.

☀️We had quite a few Amazon delivieries this week bringing accessories for new Christmas gifts. This made me giggle when I saw it yesterday. It’s still true today! 😂

☀️I really need to drink more water than I have been this week. I drank some water, but not nearly enough. I need to remember to reach for water first.

☀️As I write this, we are watching the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions. It is so good! I love the performances! It is reminding me that we are coming up on award show season. Woohoo! I love the red carpet and award show season. I just need to remember to watch them. I need to write them in my calendar so I don’t forget.

☀️I am pretty glad that I don’t teach the first half hour today because I cannot for the life of me remember what I have planned. I’m sure it’s something good, but I have no idea what it is. Ha! Even though we only have two days of school this week, I teach 12 of my 24 weekly classes. Thursday and Friday are busy days in our library.

☀️I saw this on Instagram yesterday and I loved it. As someone who is always setting goals and pushing (maybe inspiring) myself and others, I am going to keep this reminder that there is no rush to be who I am becoming.

That’s what is floating around in my head right now. It feels good to write it down and make a little space. I have a to do list ready to go and I am set to tackle it. I’d love to work on my list from break when I get home this afternoon, but it is possible that we will all be tired from getting up early and doing a full school day. We’ll see. Either way, I hope you have a great day full of sunshine and books!

Happy new year! I am convinced that today is Friday. I will be glad to get back into a routine next week.
We are forecast snow over the weekend which is fine as long as it’s gone by Monday. I don’t want the disruption.
Keeping the lights up sounds like such a good idea. January seems such a gloomy month so any brightness is good.
Wishing you all the best for 2025.

I love the new year wish. Also, I relate to having all the thoughts and needing to write them down, somehow it helps. Its one of the reasons I started blogging. I needed to put all the words in my head someplace. Hope you were able to ease back in to work and you get that snow day next week. Happy new year!
