Reading Lately – 9/24/24

Happy Tuesday! I am linking up with Joanne for Talking About It Tuesdays and the Share Your Shelf ladies (JoanneTanyaMarilyn, and Jenn) to show you the books I read this month. It has only been 19 days since my last reading update. We’ve had a lot of late evening events and I have been tired getting back into our school routine, so I haven’t read as much as usual.

The Summer Pact by Emily Giffin ☀️☀️☀️☀️
**SUNSHINE AND BOOKS 2024 SUMMER BEACH READ**

While I thought this was a good book, it was not at all what I thought it was going to be about. The Summer pact refers to a friend Summer that the three main characters had, not summer the season. I guess if I’d read more about it instead of picking it up because Emily Giffin wrote it, I would’ve been more prepared. Either way, I am glad I read it. As a warning, there is a suicide in the book and it is prevalent through the entire story. I loved the friendship and love that the three friends, Tyson, Lainey, and Hannah, have together. They will truly do anything for each other and are always striving to make the best things happen for each other. Part of the story takes place in Capri and Emily Giffin’s descriptions are absolutely beautiful. While it wasn’t the beach read I thought I was getting into, it was a good book and I am glad I read it.

The Many Lives of Mama Love by Lara Love Hardin ☀️☀️☀️☀️

This came highly recommended from a group of friends in a local book club. I was a little unsure about it and I am glad I read it. It was very well written, but it was intense. This is the true story of a suburban mom who starts taking pills and ends up addicted to heroin. Reading her story, I could not stop thinking about how terrifying the hold that drugs can have over people is. The memoir takes you through her life as an addict, in jail, on probation, and finally in recovery. While I am so proud of Lara and how committed she is to sobriety, her family, and herself, it was really hard to watch her make bad choices on her path to where she is now. I read this book in less than 24 hours because I just needed to get through to the end. If this is your kind of book, go read it immediatly. If it isn’t, make sure you are ready to give some time to Mama Love’s story and read it.

The Match by Sarah Adams ☀️☀️☀️☀️

I started reading this book in the middle of the night when I needed a break from The Many Lives of Mama Love so I could read myself back to sleep. It was exactly what I needed. A lighthearted, romcom type book in a beautiful town. The book takes place in Charleston, SC and is about family, love, service dogs, staying true to yourself. Evie has epilepsy and is able to live on her own because of her incredible service dog Charlie. She meets Jacob when Jacob’s daughter makes an appointment to get herself a service dog because she has recently been diagnosed with epilepsy. The meeting doesn’t go so well, but Evie and Jacob find their way back together to help his daughter Sam get a service dog and live like every other ten year old. It was everything I hoped it would be – some laughs, some love, some family drama, and a happy ending!

I loved the Sarah Adams book. I didn’t like the Emily Giiffin book. It was too dark really for a summer read. False advertisement! Ha! The heroin book sounds interesting but definitely too much for me to read.
