Friday Favorites – 8/9/24

Happy Friday! I am thrilled to get this post out on Friday because I am really struggling with the days this week. Swim team is over and my only appointment was Monday morning, first thing. After that, I completely lost track of what day it is. I am not exaggerating one bit. I had no idea what day it was 90% of the time. The good news is that I don’t need to know the day to have favorites! Here they are…

Linking up with Erika and Andrea

Favorite 1: OLYMPICS!! They are my favorite favorite this week! I have watched so much TV this week and I love it. I am loving watching the athletes and their families, coaches, and teammates. Knowing how hard these athletes have trained and how much they’ve given to their sport, I get a little emotional watching them give it their all. There are so many medal events happening this week and I don’t want to miss a moment. I’ve been watchign Gold Zone more than last week.

Favorite 2: FRENCH TWIST!! We have a lovely little cafe in town that serves crepes. In honor of the Olympics, I decided that we should try The French Twist. After running and walking at the track Thursday morning, we headed out for breakfast. I got L’Espagnole (eggs, cheese, avocado, and salsa), Jack got Crepe au Chocolat (chocolate syrup), and Luke got French Toast (eggs, cinnamon sugar, maple syrup, and whipped cream). The cafe had cards and games that we could use while we waited and we played 22 and black jack. When our crepes were ready, we each tried all three. They were delicious!

Favorite 3: 4H FAIR!! One of Luke’s good buddies is very active in 4H. Actually, we all love their whole family! We went to visit them at the fair this week with our neighbors, but missed seeing them. We did check in on the goats and pigs, all named after olympians this year (woohoo!). We watched a sheep show and some kids participate in an equestrian event. We saw a bunch of animals, including these bunnies. And we ended our visit with delicious funnel cakes.

Favorite 4: POOL! Even though we’ve had a few rainy days this week, we still had a great couple of days at the pool. Jack’s been working a bunch and Luke’s having a blast with friends. I am having fun with friends, too. We said goodbye to our pool manager this week and it was a hard goodbye. Kim has been our manager for 18 years, longer than we’ve been members, and she is a giant part of why we love the pool. I am so excited for her in her next adventure, but we are going to miss her! This group of kids are usually at the pool and love Kim, too!

Favorite 5: OLYMPIC TRENDS!! Have you seen the videos that say sadly I wasn’t selected for Paris 2024? I am getting such a kick out of them. Some of the videos are downright hysterical! I am also loving the trend where people put their hands up after finishing. I’ve done it twice. Once after bringing the trash cans back up from the street and my neighbor caught me – HA! Once after I cleaned my basement for most of the day. The basement cleaning definitely deserved a medal! I’ve never used a video here, but I’m hoping it works.

Favorite 6: BOOKS! I read Swan Song this week. I have been saving it because it’s Elin’s last Nantucket summer book and I didn’t want it to be over. I loved it. I loved revisiting characters from her previous novels. I loved the Nantucket landmarks. I loved the visit to the islands. It was great!! As I was getting sad that it was over, Elin announced that she’s giving us a short story set in the Galapagos on September 1st. Woohoo!!

I am also reading a nonfiction book. I started Outlive last week. I am only reading it at the pool so it’s taking me a bit longer to read. The beginning read like a textbook. It was interesting, but it required a lot of concentration. The portion I am reading right now is more practical application of all that knowlege I gained in the beginning. Like most books, I am taking it with a grain of salt, but the book’s goal is my goal – to live better longer. I am an active lady and I want to keep this up for decades.

Favorite 7: NEW ROUTINE!! I was listening to The Girl Next Door podcast and Erica shared that she keeps her vitamins (I think) on her nightstand so she remembers to take them every day. I got out of the habit of taking my vitamins and supplements this spring and this has really helped me this summer. I have only missed one day in the past three weeks. It is a simple solution, but it is working for me.

Favorite 8: RAIN! Rain in the summer is not generally a favorite, but I got a lot done on Wednesday and Thursday. I took time to read a few back issues of a magazine for school. I took my car for an oil change. I went through a few more cabinets and shelves. I tackled our basement. It is unfinished but we still use it. We have a tv/video game area, a gym area, and a big open space with a carpet for the kids to play basketball, Putterball, or anything else they want. It has been longer than I am proud to admit since we’ve given it a good cleaning. WIth a day full of rain in the forecast, Thursday was the day. I vacuumed, dusted, organized, cleaned out, and reset the basement. I earned that Olympic finish as I closed the basement door above!

Favorite 9: CONCERTS!! I love live music and so does Jeff. I am excited that we are passing this along to the boys! Luke and Jeff went to 311 on Sunday night. The weather was perfect and they had a great time!

Favorite 10: CHEERS!! Jack’s swim team buddy gave him a few Celsius drinks this season. He’s had them before but never drank the whole thing. I wanted to try one to see just how powerful the caffeine was. WOW!! I was jazzed!! I usually drink a diet soda to start my day, I know I know, but I don’t drink coffee. I know coffee has more caffiene than soda, but still. At one point, I felt like I could smell colors and see my thoughts! Jack only drank about half of his and was more than set for the day.

Hello Monday
Currently

Our weather today looks terrible – lots of rain with possible tornados and flooding. We might go to the movies this afternoon. The weather is looking better by the day for the weekend. I am hoping to spend some time at the pool on Saturday relaxing. On Sunday, we have our family Olympics with events for kids and adults. I am a little sad that the Olympics are ending on Sunday and I don’t know what I’m going to do with all my spare time. I hope you all stay safe if tropical storm Debby comes your way. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

You have so many wonderful favorites this week; the videos really made me smile! We’re getting lots and lots of rain this week and into the weekend too but I do feel like it’s helping me get more done around the house.

Ahh! I hate losing track of what day it is, I have had a few weeks lately like that.
I have been loving the Olympics too! I will be sad when they are finished.
That cafe sounds lovely and the food looks so good.
hahaha! Those videos did make me chuckle.
Oh gosh, those Celsius drinks sound crazy. I tend to stay away from energy drinks as they make me feel so jittery.

I love your strawberry dress! And earrings! You had a full and very summery week! I put my vitamins by my coffee pot but by your bed makes sense if you don’t have a puppy that gets into everything – and I mean everything.
