Hello Monday – 2/12/24

Happy Monday! I’m here with Holly sharing some fun from our weekend. I hope you’ll link up with us for Hello Monday! I am also linking up with the Share Our Life ladies today. Be sure to read to the end for that fun prompt!

Did you catch the date today: 2/12/24?? I love numbers and the date is a multiplication sentence today: 2 x 12 = 24. Pretty fun, right?

I spent most of the weekend by the pool cheering for the boys. Giving a play by play of the weekend wouldn’t be very exciting and I’ve done it a lot lately. So I decide to share my weekend by the numbers. Here we go…

21.5 – number of hours spent at the pool. Jack swam Friday night, Luke swam midday Saturday, Jack swam Saturday evening, Luke swam Sunday morning, and Jack swam Sunday afternoon. I cheered the whole time!

2 – Cousins swimming at the same time. My neice’s swim team hosted the meet the boys swam in and they combined the girls and boys relays to save time. Luke and Emma both swam the breaststroke leg of the medley relay together.

13 – swims for the boys. 4 relays and 9 individual events

8 – best times in indivdual events! They’ve been working hard at practice and it is paying off!

1,450 – yards raced by Jack and Luke.

1 – new favorite swim parent shirt. I might need one of these when I think about the number of minutes I spent cheering vs. the number of minutes I spent at the pool.

7.46 – miles walked in between races. I need to get outside between sessions to get some fresh air and move my body.

2 – books finished. I finished Studies at the School by the Sea by Jenny Colgan (out March 26th) and The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods. Both were fantastic!

1 – drink spilled. As soon as I got to the stands on Friday afternoon, I took out my phone to take a picture of the pool and kicked my entire soda over. What a mess!

2 – branches of the family there together! I spent some time with my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and neices this weekend. It was great to see them and cheer together!

3 – days of sub plans written. I’m out for a few days this week and all that sitting with good college campus wifi was the perfect time to get those sub plans done.

15+ – times I apologized to the parents around me after LOUD cheering, clapping, tapping my foot, or wild arm movements as I filmed and cheered for swimmers.

14 – noise notifications on my watch that it was 90 decibels or higher. Swim parents can get loud. This meet was the last chance for many kids to make championship meet cuts so the fans cheer and celebrate big for a good swim!

??? – degrees in the stands. It was HOT HOT HOT, but I love being warm and would choose that over being cold every day!

.5 – seconds that Jack’s relay team missed the state cut by. What a bummer, but also pretty exciting. A state cut wasn’t on their radar at all and were excited/surprised/a little disappointed to find out they swam so fast/missed the cut.

1 – event timed. When you swim a distance event, you often have to provide your own timer. Jeff is our resident timing expert, but I timed Jack this weekend.

2 – happy boys at the end of the meet.

1 – proud and happy mom at the end of the meet!

And we get to do it all again next month!

This month the Share Our Lives prompt is how you met your significant other or best friend. I wouldn’t say I have a “best friend” but I have a few best friends. I’ve met them in a variety of ways – born to the same parents, the pool, college, our kids are friends, we work together, etc. I love my girlfriends for sure!!

I don’t think I’ve shared how Jeff and I met on the blog. I graduated from college in early May 2002, went to Charlotte, North Carolina for a week to find a job and an apartment with two friends, and then moved home for about 6 weeks. I was going to manage a pool for a pool company that I’d worked for the previous summers, but needed to renew my lifeguarding certification. Jeff was an area supervisor for the same pool company and needed to renew his lifeguarding certification. We ended up in the same class. We were both very experienced lifeguards and great swimmers so we paired up.

We ended up going out with friends in the class one night during our class. Jeff and I hit it off and started dating. We kept dating when I moved to Charlotte. At the end of the year, I decided to move back to Maryland because Jeff was in grad school. The plan was to stay here for three or less years and then move back to the Carolinas. Well, that was in 2003. Here we are 21 years later and we still live in Maryland. While I miss the climate of the Carolinas, I am happy to be in Maryland with both of our parents close by.

We got engaged in November 2004, married in June 2006, and have been living happily ever after ever since. That was the perfect question for Valentine’s Day week!

Last night was a late night watching the Super Bowl, the halftime show, and the commercials. Did you have a favorite commercial? What did you think of the halftime show? If you blogged today, be sure to link up with Holly and me below! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I enjoyed the Super Bowl last night too, especially the commercials (although I’d already watched most of them from a preview news article the day before, lol). I love the swimming tshirt. There are so many things we spend hours on for just the few minutes of reward. 🙂

What a great weekend! It sounds like all of the swimmers did well and you had a lovely time! I love how now swimming is a big part of your life now and that is how you met your husband, at a pool.

Enjoyed reading the story about how you met! How have I never caught on that you live in Maryland? What part of Maryland? We lived in Maryland for almost 25 years before moving to Ohio in late 2022.
