Monthly Goals – 1/9/24

Happy Tuesday! I hope you are having the best day! If you are here for a reading update, it’s not here. Sorry! I’m changing things up a bit this year. Moving forward, I am planning to share my reading updates on the last Tuesday of the month. Starting in February, I am planning on sharing my goals and updates on the previous month’s goals on the first Thursday of the month.

I set my December goals with the intent of having fun but also making sure I did the things that make me feel my best. I think I did a pretty good job meeting my goals and I am thrilled with how I felt through December with some late nights, added activities, and lots of fun!

1. Lights out by 10:30 pm – I did it!
2. Exercise every day – I exercised most days and that is ok!
3. Do Crest whitestrips by Dec. 15 – Nope.
4. Wrap presents at least once every 8 days – Pretty close.
5. Meal plan on Wed., grocery pickup Thurs. – Nope.
6. Embrace the fun – I sure did!
7. Finish 2023 strong with 23 minutes ouside – I did it!

As I set my January goals, I was thinking about a few things. I thought about the new year and a chance to reset, I thought about how I want this year to go, and I thought about what I’d like to carry over from December. Here they are…

1. At least 20 minutes of morning workouts every school day.

I was not getting up in the mornings to exercise much in December and I’d like to get back in that habit this month. The afternoons get crazy and I don’t always make time for a workout.

2. Walk or run for 20 minutes every day.

Preferably it would be outside, but the treadmill will count. In the winter, the boys’ practices are mostly at the pool so I don’t have that built in walk/run time. I am going to get those walks or runs in every day.

3. Go on one date with Jeff.

This doesn’t have to be an official dinner date, but I want to have at least one time that is just the two of us this month. More would be a bonus!

4. Only eat out as a group three times and I only go out for lunch three or less times.

This goal has a lot in it. I need to be sure to include some fast and easy meals. I need to stay on top of groceries for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I need to make enough to have leftovers so there can be easy lunches. Like the beginning of the school year, this is a time that I focus on all of this and I want to make it a habit for the busier months ahead.

5. Curate my clothes.

I have a lot of clothes and I do not apologize for that. I will continue to donate or consign anything that doesn’t feel exactly right in my closet. I only want to add items that fill a specific purpose. For instance, the black flats I had were over 15 years old and hurt my feet so I got rid of them. I am in the market for a cute and comfy pair of black flats right now. I have my eyes on two pairs and will probably order both, but I’ll only keep one.

6. Read 4 books.

I haven’t set a reading goal in a while, but I am this month. Reading 4 books isn’t an outrageous goal for me, but it will help me pick up my book more and scroll social media less. I enjoy social media and seeing new ideas or fun things my friends are doing, but sometimes it gets too mindless. I am ok with some scrolling, but I can definitely make room for more reading.

7. Work on my 2024 goals.

It feels a little funny to have all these January goals, but not my 2024 goals. My January goals all support the goals I am rolling around in my mind for 2024. I want to officially create and write them down so I can really start working on them. I have two goal planning formats to help me and both are free! I downloaded Mel Robbins’ Make 2024 Your Best Year and Let’s Live and Learn’s reflecting and goal setting resources and habit trackers.

That’s what I’ll be working on this month. Do you set montly goals? If so, what are you working on? I can’t wait to go on that date with Jeff! I am excited to read and exercise consistently. Don’t forget, I’ll share my reading update on January 30th this month and it will be a big one with December and January books. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!
