Hello Monday – 3/14/22

Happy Monday! I’m here with Holly today and I’m sharing one of my favorite things – reading!! I hope you’ll link up with us for Hello Monday!

This is actually a double link up day – Hello Monday and Not Just a Mom. Today the Not Just a Mom ladies are sharing their reading habits. I’m sharing mine, too!

My reading habits can be summed up as wherever, whenever. Any time I have to wait for something, I am reading. Any time we are traveling, I’m reading. Any time I am having trouble sleeping, I am reading. When I get in bed, I read. If I’m sitting by a pool, beach, lake, I’m probably reading or have a book close by.

I have always loved to read. I read every Baby-Sitters Club book, usually in just a few hours. I loved Ramona Quimby! When I was in fifth grade, I was in the newspaper with two of my friends for reading so much in one year. I remember going to the library before a beach vacation and checking out stacks of books to read for the week.

I was a lifeguard for 15 years and I read a ton during each of those summers. I don’t remember reading much during the fall, winter, and spring of my college years, but that is the only time that comes to mind that I wasn’t an avid reader.

Just like when I was a little girl, I still find one author or series and read everything by them or in the series. I read all of the Ms. Julia books, the Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Coban, a series involving baking or cooking mysteries, and a bunch of the Sue Grafton alphabet series. I’ve also read everything by Elin, Dorothea, Mary Kay, and Kristy.

I’ve started a new reading habit in the past year or so. I am not typically an audio book listener, but I am loving listening to nonfiction books, especially autobiographies. I listen running errands, walking and running, working on things around the house and at school. It’s great!

Right now my most consistent reading time is before bed. I also read during the kids’ practices and when I wake up in the middle of the night.

Summer is my best reading season. I have more free time, more vacation time, and no real bedtime so I can read as much as I want. I tend to read two books a week in the summer.

I love the feel of a real book in my hands, but I also love the convenience of my kindle. I’ve become very selective about the books I actually buy because my library is getting full quickly. I usually only buy books by authors I am meeting for that book.

On my kindle, I typically read books from NetGalley or the library. I do buy ebooks occasionally, but not very often. I love that I can take my kindle with me everywhere. I also love that I can have hundreds of books with me at any given time. The fact that it lights up and I can read anywhere is pretty great, too.

I feel like I read a lot each year, over 60 books, but I am amazed by people who read a hundred or more books each year. Even if I read a hundred books a year, I couldn’t even come close to reading everything on my TBR list. I bet the same is true for those people who read a ton. I can’t wait to read the other posts in this link up to find new books or ways to read even more.

This weekend I read parts of three books. I started listening to Going There by Katie Couric. I am reading The Royals Next Door by Karina Halle for fun and The Executive Function Guidebook for my class.

If you blogged today, be sure to link up. I can’t wait to see what you have to share! I’m off to read a bit. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

You read like me, all the time whenever I can! I love that you’ve met so many authors. I have to start doing that if they start coming here! And yes, it’s true I’ll never finish all the books I want to read!

We sound like kindred spirits! I remember being criticized by someone in my 6th grade class that there was no way I was reading all the books I was reporting on… but I was. I do read upwards of 100 books a year and there is no way I could make even a small dent in my “to be read” pile as more and more fabulous ones come out each month! I too have only recently begun listening to my own audiobooks (I’ve always listened to stories with my boys when we were driving to field trips and things while homeschooling) and am loving listening to memoirs and autobiographies.

I remember being so excited to go to the bookstore for the newest BSC book. I devoured those. I love all your reading photos…& am jealous of all of the authors you’ve met! Thanks for linking up.
