Show Us Your Books – 8/11/20

Happy Tuesday! It’s double book blog post day!! I’m sharing a new release today so be sure to check that out. I’m excited to tell you what I’ve been reading lately! Let’s get to Show Us Your Books with Steph and Jana.

I Was Told It Would Get Easier by Abby Waxman ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
(2020 Summer Beach Reads book)

I liked this book. It is about a teenage daughter and her mother who go across country on a college tour. It was so interesting to hear both points of view in most interactions. Even though my kids aren’t college touring age yet, I can vividly remember doing tours with my parents and thinking the exact same things!!

One Perfect Summer by Brenda Novak ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I thought this story was good but it was about 100 pages too long. Three women find out they are sisters when they take an ancestry test. They come together at Lake Tahoe for the summer to figure out how they could possibly be related and how their parents are hiding this big secret.

28 Summers by Elin Hilderbrand ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ +++
(2020 Summer Beach Reads book)

There are not enough sunshines in the world for this book. I loved every gut wrenching minute of it. I cried, ugly cried, when I finished it and you know exactly how it is going to end from the first page. Mallory and Jake had a love for the ages and Elin did such a good job weaving their stories together across 28 summers in their same time next year love affair. Go read it NOW if you haven’t!!

Summer at Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I love revisiting characters and reading series. This Jenny Colgan series is perfect for me. Polly and her beloved puffin Neal are back and we get to see how their story continues. I love how Polly refuses to give up in every hardship she faces. I can’t wait to read Christmas at Little Beach Street Bakery later this year.

The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️
The Heir Affair by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

The first two books in the Royal We series were so much fun!! The only thing that kept them back from 5 sunshines was the length. At times it felt like the story was just a little too long. I loved the concept of an American meeting and marrying a British prince without trying to become a princess. The fun behind the scenes portions of royal life were so interesting, especially as an American. They were enjoyable summer reads.

Writers & Lovers by Lily King ☀️ ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

I read this book because Elin Hilderbrand recommended it and she has never steered me wrong! I really enjoyed the insight into a writers life and watching Casey try to make ends meet while staying dedicated to her novel. There was quite a love triangle woven into the story and Lily King resolved it in the most lovely way! I loved how I could feel Casey’s physical anxiety and how she felt when she rode her bike around Cambridge. It was a very good book!

I had another 7 book month! It feels good to be reading so much! I’m hoping I can keep up my book pace in August. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I can’t wait for The Heir Affair to load on my Kindle from the library! Apparently I have about a 3 week wait, but I’m eager to dive back into that world.

  2. Elena says:

I have not read any Jenny Colgan books yet, though each time I read another of her titles I think it sounds like something I would enjoy. I need to change that soon!

Linking my recent reads in my name, if interested!

28 Summers was amazing! I just couldn’t put it down. And I ugly cried too! I can’t wait to read some of your other recommendations. 🙂
