The End of a Streak – 4/16/20

Tuesday, April 14 was day 1200 in my run streak. I have run at least 1 mile every single day since January 1, 2017.

I started running to complete a Fun Run Box challenge for the month of January. All I had to do was run 1 mile. I have a treadmill in my basement and a good neighborhood/surrounding area to run. I used this magnet to mark off the days I ran a mile. It has been on the side of my fridge since then.

So on February 1st, I couldn’t think of a reason to stop running at least a mile. I kept going. Along came day 100 on Monday, April 10, 2017.

Day 200 was Wednesday, July 19, 2017 so I got a bunch of girlfriends together on a summer evening and we ran 2 miles on the track.

Day 300 was Friday, October 27, 2017 so the boys and I headed to the track to run and celebrate. I ran 3 miles.

Day 400 was Sunday, February 4, 2018 and I can’t find my picture of my run that day. I only saved this one from my tracker app. I ran 4 miles.

Day 500 was Tuesday, May 17, 2018 and I met two girlfriends at the track. A storm was coming in and I ran the last lap around the track as fast as I could. We made it to our cars before it the rain. I ran 5 miles.

Day 600 was Thursday, August 23, 2018. I ran 3 miles in the morning by myself and met some girlfriends to run 3 more miles that night together.

Day 700 was Saturday, December 1, 2018. I ran 7 miles with my friend Jodi to celebrate.

Day 800 was Monday, March 11, 2019. I ran in 3 sessions to fit it in that day. I ran 2.5 miles before and after school. Then I added 3 more miles with Jodi while our boys were in religious ed.

Day 900 was Wednesday, June 19, 2019. I ran 9 miles in 2 sessions – a 6 miler and a 3 miler. I met with some girlfriends on the track for some of those miles.

Day 1000 was Friday, September 27, 2019. I didn’t have time to run 10 miles so I met a bunch of girlfriends at the track and we ran a mile together and celebrated afterwards on the CPP (Chairs Party Patio).

The next day Jodi and I ran a homemade half marathon. Our fall schedules didn’t line up with any races so on Saturday, September 28 2019 we ran 13.1 miles around our town. I feel like I should mention we live in a hilly town. And Jodi deserves some rockstar credit because rumor has it that around mile 4 I sat down on the sidewalk and said I wasn’t going to run any further. 😂 She convinced me to get up and keep running. About 9 miles later we finished in the middle of a traffic circle.

Day 1100 was Sunday, January 5, 2020. I think I ran for 11 minutes or something like that. Just enough to keep the streak alive.

Day 1200 was Tuesday, April 14, 2020. It was the middle of a global pandemic and Maryland is under stay home orders. We are allowed to run outside for exercise. I didn’t feel comfortable asking anyone to run with me because we are taking this social distancing thing very seriously. I got up and ran a 5k while the sun was rising. It was perfect running weather in the 50s. I ran my most frequent course around my neighborhood. That course has been there for me since I started running at this house (over 6 years) and I wanted to spend my day 1200 run there.

1 mile done. Day 1200 is official!
All done

I chose my dark pink flower for my run today. Dark pink’s message was perfect for this run. It really sums up my run streak.

I tend to gravitate to three flowers the most. Dark pink, purple, and yellow. These three flowers and their meanings carried me through 1200 days. **All three flower pictures are from Fellow Flowers website.** I love Fellow Flowers and everything the group/company stands for.

I spent Tuesday wearing another Fellow Flowers favorite. This sweatshirt is comfy and the message is perfect. If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you. These 1200 days definitely challenged me. Which means they have changed me. I have confirmed that I can do anything I put my mind to. I also know that my body is capable of doing rigorous things and it will rise to the challenge. Even if it hurts.

Right now I plan on taking about a week off from running. I will continue to move my body every day. Wednesday, April 15 was the first day in years that my workouts did not include a run. I felt good, but it does feel weird to not run at all today.

I’ve accidentally started another streak. 🤦🏻‍♀️ While we are staying home, I’ve been working hard to close all three rings on my Apple Watch. It has been 24 days in a row now. Oh dear, what am I starting here…

Have a great day full of sunshine and books!
