What’s Up Wednesday – 2/27/19

Happy Wednesday!! I am linking up with Shay and Sheaffer to talk about what’s up.

WHAT WE’RE EATING…
I finally inventoried my freezer so we’ve been eating from the freezer & pantry.
Sunday – Burgers on the grill (hello ☀️!)
Monday – Leftovers
Tuesday – subs on our way to the library for an event
Wednesday – grilled shrimp
Thursday – hot dogs
Friday – ziti
Saturday – we’re going to a bull roast
Sunday – steaks

WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT…
My first 5k. I don’t have any pictures, of course, but the first 5k I ran was a St. Patrick’s Day 5k over 10 years ago. I ran a 5k on Sunday, the Sykesville Shiver Shuffle, and it got me thinking. I am so glad that I decided to try running. I am not super fast, but I do love it! The Shiver Shuffle’s motto is “Kill the Hill”. I think they found a way for us to run up EVERY. SINGLE. HILL in the town of Sykesville. It was the hilliest run I’ve done and I felt pretty good afterwards.

WHAT I’M LOVING…
The sunshine! The kids played outside and we grilled on Sunday! It felt so good to have a little sunshine on my cheeks!
I am also loving finding these two snuggled up in one chair! ❤️

WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO…
We have been trying to get back to our routines, pretty unsuccessfully. The weather hasn’t been helping and things keep getting rescheduled. Check out our snow day in the life here. We’ve managed to get to most of the swim practices, baseball practices, basketball practices and some games and swim meets. The great part of this is that I have plenty of reading time while the boys practice their skills.
Our school had its annual Groovy Science Night on Friday. It is a fun night for the whole family. Kids get to explore all kinds of science concepts at different stations and parents can join in or catch up with friends while we’re all milling around!
We went to our local public library to finish up our school-wide book club. We read Escape From Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein. As a culminating event, our library created 3 scavenger hunts for the kids to do. I’m going to be there a few nights to encourage our readers and hand out prizes. It was so fun!

WHAT I’M DREADING…
I am not really dreading anything right now. Spring forward is just around the corner and the sun is already shining noticeably earlier and later in the day. I love spring sports – baseball and swimming – for us because it’s a good balance of outside, playing with friends, and activity for us. Oops, that turned into what I am looking forward to. 😊

  • WHAT I’M WORKING ON…
    Oh, the usual.
    • Some great media lessons for my students
    • A fun evening event that celebrates the Maryland Black-Eyed Susan nominated books
    • Some blog posts
    • Planning our spring and summer vacations

    WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT…
I am loving my new planner cover. It is little, but I love how festive it is every time I pull it out to write something down! I love that Erin Condren has interchangeable covers to change the look of my planner and notebooks at any time.
Our Walmart started grocery pickup yesterday. I signed up and it was amazing! I got a little gift bag for the first day and my groceries were perfect. The bananas were not quite ripe and the grapes are great. I really think it’s going to change my life!! If you decide to try it, use this link for $10 off your first order. I get $10 off too. Thanks!!

    WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING…
I finished Sex and the City 😢 on my last snow day. It was just a great as I remembered!! I am going to watch the movies now. I am getting back to Grace and Frankie on Netflix. I watched through the second season. It’s funny and a good show to watch on the treadmill.

I read a bunch of great books lately! I loved The Southern Side of Paradise by Kristy Woodson Harvey. It is the third book in the Peachtree Bluff series and comes out in May. Go read the other two so you are ready when it comes out.

I read Your Second Life Begins When You Realize You Only Have One by Raphaelle Giordano. I totally did not see the ending coming and it made me love the book even more. I found it a bit slow to start because it seemed like a self-help book. I wasn’t looking for a self-help book and it was described to me as a charming novel. I am so glad I kept reading because it turned out to be a real feel-good story! It’s a translated French novel, and I’d recommend it!

    WHAT I’M LISTENING TO…
Well, I am back to Radio Margaritaville since Sirius ended the temporary Billy Joel Channel. We are going through serious withdrawal over here.
On Tuesday, I was listening to a lot of beatboxing, both professional and amateur. We had the amazing Max Bent come to our school. The sounds he can make with his mouth are absolutely incredible!! Luke has decided that he may be a beat boxer as well. He was soooo into the program and has been working on his beatboxing all day.

    WHAT I’M WEARING…
I am loving my new St. Patrick’s Day sneakers! They came on Monday and I have been wearing them ever since. They are comfy to run in and to run around town in.
I’m loving my new quarter zip from the Shiver Shuffle. It’s definitely bright, but it’s so comfy!
I was bringing the sunshine with my Lilly popover! The print is Sunshine State of Mind and I think it is my new signature print! I just love everything about it!

    WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND…
Jack’s basketball playoffs start this week so we’ll be going to at least one basketball game. Jeff and I are going to a bull roast for the baseball organization our kids play for. I am so excited! I love bull roasts!

WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH…
I am so excited for our trip next month! We are going to Florida!! Hello sunshine!! It’s a present trip that Jeff and I get to do too! My sister gave the boys tickets to The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass for their birthdays – Hooray! My parents gave the boys tickets to the Orioles Spring Training for Christmas – Hooray! I can’t wait for the Florida weather and to spend some uninterrupted time with my parents, my sister, Jeff, and the boys.

    WHAT ELSE IS NEW…
We had a chili cook off at school on Monday! There were two categories – traditional (red sauce) and non-traditional (white sauce). I won the non-traditional category! I took a chance and made a chili inspired by this recipe. I changed it a little bit and didn’t taste it until lunch time. It ended up being delicious!!

Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

I can not wait for the 3rd book to come out! It’s such a fun series. We have a covered porch so we grill occasionally in the winter too and I just love those little tastes of summer when it’s so cold and dreary out.
