Before I begin, I want to shine a spotlight on my Hello Monday partner Holly. Holly and I have never met in person. One of her NH friends moved to MD and lives near me. I’ve chatted with her at a few book events but that is it. Ok, back to Holly. Even though we’ve never met face-to-face, it is obvious that Holly is a hard worker that supports her people in a big way! She has been rather busy recently with Project Blackout. This is an organization that supports pediatric cancer research and the families’ of children with cancer. She works so hard and raises so much money with the Project Blackout team. Looking at the website and calendar, she’s had a busy couple of weeks and I want to recognize her. Way to go Holly!!! Your commitment to helping others is a true gift!! 💛🖤💛
I am heading back to Monday to share some fun with you. I am still trying to figure out the groove of my weeknights this fall and I am hoping to do a little more blogging in the coming weeks. I thought I would have all the time in the world with a few hours in the afternoon to myself before everyone gets home, but it seems I do not.
I started my day Monday with an early alarm and hitting the road with Jack. He didn’t have school for Yom Kippur so we headed out to do some college things. Our first stop was JMU! Oh does my heart swell to type that! The weather wasn’t super, but it was still great to be on campus again. We had a great tour guide and saw a few things around campus. We saw two students that we know, so that was fun too. Then we hit the bookstore. We are heading back to JMU for a football game with some of my college roommates in November and it was great to get our gear before game day. After the bookstore, I drove around a bit to show Jack other parts of campus that weren’t on the tour. The plan was to walk, but it was raining. After grabbing lunch, we hit the road. I was hoping to drive through another school but it was pouring rain. We visited a few schools in August, but I am trying to get Jack back for an informal look when there are students on campus. We didn’t see many people out and about so we hopped back on the highway to head home.
On Tuesday, we picked our new book club book at school. This is our second book and thought this would be a fun way to pick. I was rather dizzy after spinning around and around but I landed on this one.
I celebrated the first day of fall with this shirt. It’s an oldie but a goodie!
Wednesday was my birthday. Jeff had to work late, the boys had swim practice after school, and my dad was out of town. My mom came over for a while after school and we played mahjong. It was fun! I think the game is so fun and need to find a time or group so I can play more. We played four games and we both won two. Hooray!
I took a long walk right before sunset on Thursday evening. Wasn’t the sky beautiful??
Friday was all about Dolly! It was September 25 – 9/25 or Nine to Five. I wore my Dolly Parton reading shirt and asked kids if they had a favorite Dolly Parton song as I took attendance. Lucky for my classes, I sang a little bit of each song they said. We also talked about what a wonderful person Dolly was in addition to being a great singer. It felt great to have so much fun and share positivity all day! My friend Amy gave me a Saint Dolly candle for my birthday and it was perfect for the day. I headed to the boys’ and Jeff’s school for the football game on Friday night. It was crisp and a little chillier than I thought it would be, but perfect football weather. The theme was island and all the kids had their finest tropical gear on. The team was victorious so everyone left happy!
On Saturday, we had a pool board meeting in the morning at the pool. I always love to check in on the pool, even when it’s chilly. I went for a long walk when we got home to listen to my audio book. Then I got a few things done around the house to get ready for the week ahead. I spent a lot of time reading in the afternoon and evening because it was not outside weather. The book I am reading is LONG (656 pages), but I am loving it. We went out to dinner with my parents to celebrate my birthday. Someone told the waitress why we were there and I got the hat and sparkler candle celebration. Hooray for 46!
We continued to get some rain from the big nor’easter on Sunday. I took advantage of the rainy weather and wrote my blog post for tomorrow. I made a meal plan and scheduled groceries. I read a bit more of my book, too. We had football and golf on all day. It was rather relaxing.
We have a full five day week ahead of us. Jeff and I are going to a concert tonight that I am so excited about!! I have been trying to see Michael Franti in concert for years and tonight is the night. As an added bonus, The Wheeland Brothers are opening for him and you know I love them!!
