Hodgepodge & Let’s Look – 2/12/25

Happy Wednesday! Monday and Tuesday have been pretty busy at school, so I’ve been working for an hour or two each evening. I wasn’t sure I would get this post out, but I woke up to another snow day! We went to bed with a two hour delay with re-evaluation and woke up to the news that school is closed. It’s our fourth snow day of the year and we only have three days built into our calendar, so we are looking at adding days to the calendar already. And it’s only mid-February! You know I love summer so so much, but I am trying to make the most of these snow days at home. For instance, today I am watching the Today show and enjoying the 2026 winter olympics coverage!!

I am also joining Joyce for the Wednesday Hodgepodge. It’s super love-ly!

1. Did you watch the Super Bowl? Did your team win? What’s your favorite game day snack for  whatever sport is happening? I sure did watch the Super Bowl. I didn’t really care which team won this year. I did enjoy the commercials and the half-time show. We had a typical Super Bowl menu. Jeff made a variety of wings – Old Bay, TJ’s 21 Seasoning Salute, and TJ’s Citrus Garlic – and we had chips with queso and guacamole. It was delicious! My favorite watching sports snacks are dips. You can never, ever go wrong with a dip!

2. What’s your ‘superpower’? I always find a way to get it done. I might not get it done untnil the last minute, but I find a way to get things done. I also think that I am very good at looking for the positive in any situation, even when it is a rough one.

3. Will you do anything special on Valentine’s Day? If so do share. Any thoughts on/about this particular holiday? Share a favorite verse or quote relating to love. We don’t have big plans on Valentine’s Day. In years past, I’ve made heart shaped food for dinner for the kids when Jeff was working late – pancakes, pizza, sandwiches, strawberries, cookies. As a teacher, it is such a fun day. The kids are excited, they do a Valentine exchange, we would have a snack and some fun activities.

4. Are you a fan of the rom-com genre? If so what’s one of your favorites? If you’re not a movie go-er then what about a book you love that features a great love story? How about a favorite love song? I love a rom-com!! I read a lot of rom-com books. I do not watch many movies, but when I do it’s a rom-com. Jeff and I danced to It Had To Be You at our wedding and I love that one.

5. Let’s get creative…write an acrostic using the word L-O-V-E.
L-is for the way you look at me… Oh wait, someone already wrote that one. Haha! My brain is going in a million directions right now and I’m not sure I can come up with an acrostic.

6. Insert your own random thought here. Did you know that we are less than one year from the 2026 Olympics?? I love the Olympics and can’t wait to watch all the coverage leading up to and during the games. This is the first time there have been two host cities. I am excited to see how that works.

Linking up with Erika and Shay

This month the Let’s Look topic is how do you work on your marriage. Here are the things Jeff and I do to keep our marriage strong right now.

We take advantage of our kids’ schedule. They have swim team practice at the same time and we use those two hours to spend time together at least once a week. We use that alone time for big conversations (planning seasons and vacations, etc.), time to catch up, and walks together. We also get a some time together around Luke’s soccer games and Jack’s golf matches. We try to both go to as many events together as we can and take advantage of the warmup times.

After we got married, we started going on walks after dinner together. It is a great time to talk about so many things. When we had kids, we’d pop them in the stroller and head out for those walks. During the beginning of the pandemic, we walked together for miles and miles every day. Right now, we are running the boys to their activities, but we still make time to walk together at least once a week.

This is a busy season for our family and Jeff and I realize that we only have a few years with the kids at home. We are committed to attending their games, events, and anything they do. It might mean we don’t go on as many date nights or take weekends away, but it’s ok. While I don’t wish the next 5 years away, I think the time when we have more time together is going to be so good!

I am off to get this snow day going! I have a workout to do, some pool work to do, some laundry to put away, and a book to read. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!

My daughter is in a wedding in Annapolis this weekend, so hopefully the weather cooperates. We are having a lot of rain. We take a lot of walks together too. It’s a good space to catch up without distractions. Enjoy your snow day!

I hate to say it but those 5 years are going to fly by! Definitely enjoy them while you can. Valentine’s day was always so fun in schools– especially elementary schools.

I saw the Olympics on the Today show as well and had to look up when the Winter Olympics are…this time next year…wow! Which makes sense why Craig was reporting on it…but I’d missed the details.
