Happy Friday! I am a little behind so I am linking up with Holly and Patty to answer 10 fun seasonal questions. I am also sharing some favorites from the week. I cannot believe we finally made it to the end of January. Have you seen the memes going around about how long January seems this year? There are some funny ones!
This month we are talking about winter self-care, which is perfect for this freezing cold January.
1. What do you do to stay warm in the winter?
I pump up my heated seat every single time I am in the car! I also use my electric blanket whenever I can. I like to get outside, so I layer a lot to make it through cold weather.
2. Favorite wintertime activity?
I think I said this before, but my favorite winter activity is going somewhere warm! Ha! I like to watch the boys swim inside where it is warm. I do like to go for a walk when it isn’t too cold.
3. Any different beauty routines in the winter?
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!
4. Skating, sledding, or skiing?
I guess sledding, but I do not prefer any of these cold weather activities. I used to ski quite a bit, but I don’t think I want to go back to it now in my mid-40s.
5. Favorite winter recipes?
I like things that cook all day like chili, soup, and a roast in the crockpot.
6. Favorite winter hot beverage?
I like hot tea and hot chocolate. I also prefer a full bodied red wine in the winter or a very oaky chardonnay.
7. Best winter memories?
I have great memories of sledding at our middle school, drinking my mom’s homemade hot chocolate, and watching Dr. Zhivago during a blizzard. I don’t remember much about the movie, but I do remember my mom, sister, and I all hanging out in the den watching the movie.
8. Coldest day that you remember?
Either earlier this month or a few years ago when we had the polar vortex come through. It was -1, 0, and 1 degree here this month.
9. How are you practicing self-care this winter?
I am continuing to exercise and I am getting back to strength training. Lifting heavy weights makes a difference in how I feel and I’m remembering that! I am also trying to get to bed a little earlier. I also try to get outside a little each day if the temps are at least in the double digits.
10. Flannel sheets… yes or no?
Yes! We love flannel sheets! I do not use flannel pillowcases though. I love my crisp cotton pillowcases.
1 – PLANT CITY!! I am loving all of the strawberries we are eating this week. I bought 6 pounds of strawberries and each container is yummier than the one before!
2 – LONG VEST! I am loving my long vest. It is so warm, and not too bulky. I would like for the hood to squish down a bit, but it will happen as I wear it more.
3 – JESS SIMMS!! I started my first Peloton split this week. Holy cow! I have consistently been doing intermediate strength classes for the past month or so, but I am humbled by Jess’ 3 day split. After day 1, my arms were shaking and I was worried Jeff would have to cut my food. I did day 2 last night (Thursday) and I am walking around like a baby giraffe. I know this is me getting stronger and I love Jess’ energy, but wow!
4 – KIDS!! This week Jeff and I had to fill out some forms for the boys about what brings them joy and it was great. I loved thinking about the activities they love and how they experience joy. It was also a good reminder to try to plan things together that bring joy.
