Happy Wednesday! I am linking up withJoyce to answer five fun questions and Jennifer to share five things I am currently doing. Each month we share five different things and I think it’s a fun way to think about what’s going on.

1. At the end of every year (or at least since the mid-1970’s) Lake Superior State University posts a list of words they think should be banished from the Queen’s English for misuse, overuse, and/or general uselessness. You can read more about the decision making process here, but this year’s list includes- cringe, game changer, era, dropped, IFKYK (If you know you know), sorry not sorry, skibidi, 100%, utilize, and period.
Which of these words/phrases do you use regularly or even just every now and then? How many did you have to look up? Which of these words would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word/phrase not on the list you’d like to add? If so do share, then tell us why.

I am familiar with all of them, thank you teenagers living in my house, but I don’t really use any of them. I think I would get rid of skibidi because it doesn’t really serve a function and it is annoying!

2. Your favorite soup? Do you make this one yourself or is it from a can? My favorite soup is one I saw Andrea make. It is one box of Trader Joe’s creamy tomato soup, one box of Trader Joe’s red pepper and tomato soup, and a block of Boursin cheese. It is so yummy! I’ve served it with grilled sandwiches or with salad and toasty bread. All four of us love it!

3. How do you feel about winter? What’s one winter activity you look forward to?  I do not love winter. I love Christmas and that’s it. I would be completely fine if we had a warm, warm Christmas. I do enjoy one good snow day, but after that I would like it to be at least 60 degrees every single day. Have you ever heard of apricity? It is one of the things that gets me through the cold winter days.

4. The Pantone color of the year for 2025 is mocha mousse (sample pictured here). What say you? The website describes it as ‘a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nourishes us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort’. Is this a color I might find in your home or wardrobe? Is it one you might add in some big or small way in the year ahead?
In a similar, but not really vein…if I were to offer you a choice right now of either a cup of mocha or a cup of mousse which would you say yes to?
I will not be adding that color to my wardrobe or home decor this year. I tend to pick bright colors in my personal and home style. I also wouldn’t say yes to a cup of mocha or mousse. I like mousse, but it’s not my favorite.

5. Which of the following winter related idioms can best be applied to your life in some way right now? Choose one, then tell us why you chose it.  snowed under, on thin ice, tip of the iceberg, chill out, break the ice, snowball effect, not a snowball’s chance in hell, get cold feet, the cold shoulder
Well, if we were talking literally I’d say get cold feet because it has been so cold here. Talking figuratively, I think the tip of the iceberg is sadly what I’d pick. Looking ahead at the forecast that cold weather we’re having is just the tip of the iceberg. The long range forecast doesn’t have a high out of the 30s at all and the lows are often in the teens. Yikes!

6. Insert your own random thought here. I have five for you in my Currently post below. 😊

I am loving…

Snow days! I don’t always love cold weather, but the first snow day of the year is always fun. We had off Monday and Tuesday for snow this week and enjoyed both days! Unfortunately we only have 3 snow days built in to our calendar and only have one left. I am worried that it’s going to be a snowy winter and we are going to extend the school year further into summer.

I bought two of the last three disco ball planters at my Trader Joe’s yesterday for my school library. There are hooks and chains to hang from that the librarian before me left and I haven’t used for over 9 years. That is changing today!

I am loving my decision to leave our outside Christmas lights up. They are all covered in snow now so I can’t possibly take them down. They were so pretty in the snow on Tuesday morning!

I am loving my weighted vest! It is only 12 pounds but it feels pretty significant when I am walking. It is making me focus on my posture in a way that I really like.

I am staying warm by…

Using the electric throw Jeff gave me a few years ago for my birthday. It gets so warm under there!

I have been going on snow day walks. They sound chilly, but I walk pretty quickly and bundle up so they are warm. The fresh air does me so much good!

I am planning meals that feel good when it is so cold! It looks like we are going to be in a cold spell for quite a while so I am leaning into all the comfort foods. I am planning roasts, chili, soups, and baked pastas.

Anytime I drive anywhere, I am keeping my heated seat on high!

I am resolving…

To figure out what I want to resolve this year. Ha! I have some thoughts about what I want to focus on and what my word of the year will be.

I will keep up with my reading goal on Goodreads. I set my goal at 60 books, even though I will probably read more than that. I am trying to figure out how I want to set a goal for nonfiction books.

I am organizing…

EVERYTHING!!! Actually, I am making lists of everything I want to organize. 😆 A friend has some drawer sets that she doesn’t want anymore and I am going to give them a try to organize and contain some more Lego pieces. I am going to use the other one for my nail polish and jewlery. I’m hoping they both work perfectly!

I am also taking a look at my closet and dressers. They are getting pretty full again and it’s time to figure out what I am actually wearing. Full disclosure – they are so full that I didn’t even look at the Lilly sunshine sale the first day!

I am wearing…

See above – I am trying to figure out what I am wearing so that I can get my closet and dressers organized. LOL! I have only been to work for a day and a half this year as I type this on Tuesday, and I wore these new sneakers. They were so comfy!

I am looking forward to wearing my wide leg sweatsuit. It is so comfy and looks great with those new sneakers!

I am also doing a little more lounging in my pajamas! I have a new cozy pair from Lands End and these comfy favorites from LL Bean.

We are heading back to school today with a two hour delay. Jeff and Jack’s school is closed again today. So, if Jack was filling out my Currently answers I think he would say he is loving the snow days. His school canceled midterm exams due to missing so many days. Here’s hoping they go back to school on Thursday! Have a great day full of sunshine and books!
