Happy Tuesday! I am linking up with the Share Your Shelf ladies (Joanne, Tanya, Marilyn, and Jenn) to show you the books I read this month. I usually share my reading update on the last Tuesday of the month, but that surely didn’t happen last week. I have my sunshine rating, out of five, for each book and little synopsis/opinion. Some of them are a little vague because it has been a wild few weeks. I promise (hope) I’ll get it together soon!
I finally took my annual reading on the beach picture this month. It was a beautiful day to read and I finished this book in less than two days!
THE PARADISE PROBLEM BY CHRISTINA LAUREN ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
**SUNSHINE AND BOOKS 2024 SUMMER BEACH READ**
Anna and West got married while in college to solve their on campus housing troubles. After a year of living together, they parted ways and hadn’t seen each other for years. Anna is going through a rough stretch of luck when Liam shows up on her door. She’s utterly perplexed because she thought she signed divorce papers years ago. It turns out she didn’t and West needs her to go to an exotic paradise island with him and his family. It’s a fun story with all the signature Christina Lauren laughs, twists, and love.
SWAN SONG BY ELIN HILDERBRAND ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
**SUNSHINE AND BOOKS 2024 SUMMER BEACH READ**
Oh Elin! I can’t believe this is the end of your summer books. It was great to revisit some of the characters from previous books. I enjoyed the mystery in the book and some characters from St. John. The only thing I didn’t love was the ending. It wasn’t my favorite way to end a book. Don’t worry, I’ll keep reading Elin! She has an ebook short story out on Amazon and I’m looking forward to the books she’s writing with her daughter.
Outlive by Peter Attia ☀️☀️☀️☀️
I’ve heard a lot of hype about this book and have wanted to read it for a while. The first half was a real slog. It was a lot of information about our bodies and read like a science textbook. I read it entirely at the pool during the day to stay awake. The second half was a bit more application and it did give me some things to think about. I’d like to revisit it and make some more specific notes about what Peter Attia recommends. There were definitely good parts, but there were others that made me wonder a bit.
A NOVEL SUMMER BY JAMIE BRENNER ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
**SUNSHINE AND BOOKS 2024 SUMMER BEACH READ**
A book about books and bookstores, I love it! Add in a beautiful coastal town, friendships, and a little drama and I am definitely here for it! There’s family drama, rekindled love, and two adorable babies. Have I hooked you yet? Everything a great beach read is made of can be found right here.
THE DARLING GIRLS BY SALLY HEPWORTH ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
**SUNSHINE AND BOOKS 2024 SUMMER BEACH READ**
You know I am a big weenie and do not like anything remotely scary. Sally Hepworth is one of the few authors that can walk the line of not scary yet suspenseful, but not too suspenseful. I love every one of her books! I am hoping she makes it to Maryland on her next trip to the states. Sally, if you are reading this (ha) please come to Maryland!! Three foster sisters find themselves back in the town they were raised after a body is discovered on the property where they grew up. They wade through their memories, mostly devastating, and try to help the police piece together what happened there.
The Wedding People by Alison Espach ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
I read about this book somewhere, maybe bookstagram, and thought it looked good because I love stories about people. I do want to warn that suicide is a topic in this book, so be aware if that is not something you want to avoid. Phoebe comes to a grand inn on the coast of Rhode Island to finally see the ocean and come to terms with the awful year she’s had. When she gets to the inn, she finds that she is the only person there who is not attending a weeklong wedding celebration. Unexpectedly, Phoebe and the bride befriend each other throughout the week. Though Phoebe had no plans of anything celebratory, she finds herself surrounded by wedding people and activities all week long.
SEVEN SUMMER WEEKENDS BY JANE L. ROSEN ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
**SUNSHINE AND BOOKS 2024 SUMMER BEACH READ**
I have loved every one of Jane L. Rosen’s books that I’ve read. This was no exception. Her book last summer, On Fire Island, was sad but also full of redemption and this one was similar. Fire Island was the setting and also a character. I love when the setting can do that! Addison’s career goes upside down after a terrible zoom disaster and she retreats to her newly inherited cottage on Fire Island. Through the seven summer weekends, she learns about herself, her family, makes new friends, and figures out what she’s going to do with the rest of her life. It was a great read!
Tales from Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffett ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
This was such a fun book to read. I have been listening to Jimmy Buffett my whole life and this is the first book of his that I’ve read. I loved hearing the stories of characters he mentions in his songs. Especially now that we won’t have any new Jimmy songs, it was fun to have something he’s written be new to me! I’m ready to go to Margaritaville anytime!
The Summer Club by Hannah McKinnon ☀️☀️☀️☀️
**SUNSHINE AND BOOKS 2024 SUMMER BEACH READ**
I always like Hannah McKinnon books and this was no exception. This book focused on a golf and social club one summer.
Currently Reading: The Summer Pact by Emily Giffin
**SUNSHINE AND BOOKS 2024 SUMMER BEACH READ**
I finished my Goodreads reading challenge this month. 65 books! My reading will probably slow down a bit over the next few months with school starting and all the kids’ activities ramping back up. I read 78 and 80 books the past two years and I am hoping to get close to that this year. I’m not reading for competition, but reading about 80 books will mean I am spending less time scrolling and more time enjoying books.
You can always checkout what I’ve been reading on my Books 2024 page. I have all of my yearly reading pages linked here if you want to see what I’ve been reading for the last 5 years. The complete list of my 2024 Summer Beach Reads is full of great books and all of my seasonal book lists are on my home page. Don’t forget September is STILL summer!!
What have you been reading? Anything exciting? What are you looking forward to this month? Have a great day full of sunshine and books!
