Happy Monday! I’m here with Holly sharing a bit of a mashup post. I hope you’ll link up with us for Hello Monday! I am sharing our weekend and some favorites from last week. I did not get around to writing a Friday Favorites so I’m adding them here.
I cannot believe that it is already July! I was freaking out about summer going so fast and Jeff reminded me that I still have a solid 8 weeks left before I go back to work. It calmed me down for a bit, but the first day of July is undoing a little of that calm.
We did not have any semblence of a routine last week. Jeff was in New York City for work on Monday and Tuesday. Then, Jeff and I went to the beach on Wednesday and Thursday. My sister came to town on Thursday night and was here for the weekend. And for some reason I thought it would be a great idea to sign the boys up for a long course meet on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon after our summer swim team meet Saturday morning.
I have been wanting to see Michael Franti in concert for years. We were going to go last year, but Jack qualified for Summer Nationals and it was the same weekend. I was so excited to see that he was coming close to us this year. I bought our tickets a few months ago and have been counting down since then. He was playing at the Freeman Stage, which is a really cool outdoor venue near the beach. It is pretty small, tucked away in a neighborhood, and had fun food truck options. Jeff and I decided to go to the beach around 9 since my parents were watching the boys all day and overnight. We were on the beach by 1 and had a great afternoon. We talked and read and talked some more. We had some great people watching and the groups’ conversations around us were so interesting! (We weren’t really eavesdropping, they were loud enough for everyone to hear!)
After a few hours on the beach, we walked to a taco stand for dinner and then got ready to go. One of my good friends from growing up was at the show and I was looking forward to seeing her. So here we are watching the opening acts, enjoying the scenery.
And that’s all we saw. A huge thunderstorm came through and they evacuated the venue. We waited in our cars for a while until it was canceled. They rescheduled for the next night, but we couldn’t stay. I was bummed but Jeff and I had a great time together for our overnight away.
On Thursday, we grabbed a quick breakfast and headed home because it was going to be a cloudy day at the beach. I wanted to get home and get ready for the weekend and Luke’s soccer team had a team meeting Thursday evening.
On Friday, we were up at and at ’em. Jeff dropped me off at my parents’ house and picked up my dad to go play golf. My mom, sister, niece, and I hung out at the house and went to my mom’s pool for a bit. It was fun to go back to the pool again and to see some friends and people I haven’t seen since I lifeguarded there. Then we all met up at the house and went out to dinner to celebrate my mom’s birthday. We all got something different and each meal was delicious!
We headed back to my parents’ for dessert. My mom loves orange cake so I found a recipe and gave it a whirl. It was a little crumby, but so yummy. I used plenty of orange buttercream icing to hold it together.
After cake and presents, we headed home. We weren’t going to see my sister, brother-in-law, or neice again before they left because we both had busy weekends planned. Zach’s grandmother passed away a few months ago and her service was about an hour away on Saturday morning. My parents went with them on Saturday.
We went to our summer swim meet. The boys swam well and we had fun! Then we came home to cool off a bit before heading back out to another swim meet. The boys swam well, but Jack said that his ear was starting to hurt. NOOOOOO!!!
We were home for a bit on Sunday morning and it was good to get caught up on a few things. We were back at the pool by noon for warmups. It was hot again! I was excited to catch up with a friend on the phone during a nice long walk and then cheered the boys on while encouraging them to drink as much water as possible. Jeff and Jack played 9 holes of golf Sunday evening while Luke played with the neighbors. We all settled in around 7:30 to watch track and field and gymnastics Olympic trials.
As I was watching track and field, I cleaned out a few days worth of photos on my phone. I came across this screenshot and it feels perfect for this week.
We have a pretty wide open week. I am planning pool time every day! Jeff’s off Wednesday – Friday for the 4th of July and I’m hoping he joins me at the pool for a few days. I hope you have a great week planned, too! I have a few posts planned for this week, but you never know what’s going to happen with Olympic hopeful Summer Sarah at the helm. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!
