Reading Lately – 6/25/24

Happy Tuesday! I am linking up with Joanne for Talking About It Tuesdays and the Share Your Shelf ladies (Joanne, Tanya, Marilyn, and Jenn) to show you the books I read this month.

THE RULE BOOK BY SARAH ADAMS ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
**Sunshine and Books 2024 Summer Beach Read**

I accidently read this book before The Cheat Sheet. While this isn’t a true sequel, the main characters in The Cheat Sheet are secondary characters in this book. It didn’t affect my understanding of the book, but it might be nice to read them in the correct order if you haven’t read either one yet. This was truly a summer read and fun to read. Nora is an up and coming agent and Derek is a football star trying to comeback from injury. They are also college exes that haven’t spoken in years. Derek’s agent needs to pass him off and the agency chooses Nora. it’s her first full time client and she hasn’t told anyone that she knows Derek. They are both trying to help their own careers so they create a rule book to have a successful professional relationship. Things don’t always go as planned and the ending is no surprise, which makes for a fun summer book.

HOOT BY CARL HIASSON (audio)

I’ve read this book a few times and watched the movie once, so when Luke and I needed a new book to listen to I picked Hoot. I love Carl Hiaasen’s books and have read every single one. Luke loved the story, too. I’m sure we’ll watch the movie if we get a rainy day this summer. Chad Lowe narrated the book and that was the only drawback for me. He’s not my favorite narrator, but we still enjoyed the story.

EXPIRATION DATES BY REBECCA SERLE ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
**Sunshine and Books 2024 Summer Beach Read**

Oh my goodness, I thought this book was so fun! Rebecca Serle always includes a little magical realism in her books but it’s not too far fetched. I was so surprised to read the twist in this book and loved Daphne, the main character. Her best friend Jake is such a great complement to Daphne’s character and I’d love to go out to dinner or a farmer’s market with them.

THIS SUMMER WILL BE DIFFERENT BY CARLEY FORTUNE ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
**Sunshine and Books 2024 Summer Beach Read**

I loved this book. Carley Fortune writes a great summer book! Prince Edward Island is a beautiful setting and after reading this book, I am adding it to my want to travel list! I loved Lucy/Bee’s independance and her friendship with Bridget. Also, I recently discovered vinho verde, a summer wine from Portugal, and it was featured very prominently in this book. It was a fun to enjoy a glass while reading!

Dolly Parton Behind The Seams: My Life in Rhinestones by Dolly Parton (audio and print) ☀️☀️☀️☀️

I listened to this book and looked through the physical copy to see all of Dolly’s outfits. I loved listening to it because it was interview style with Dolly and other people who have supported her style through the years. The book is pretty thick and full of pictures of the outfits that Dolly mentions. I recommend listening and looking at the book.

Brain Games Word Search Book (selection of similar)

This isn’t a reading book but I wanted to share it anyway. I love doing word searches. I picked up this book over a year ago and I just finished it last night. I often take this book when I think we’ll have some wait time (restaurants, the golf tournament, doctor’s appointments). It is a nice way to fill the time when I want to interact with the people around me.

Currently Listening: Spy School British Invasion by Stuart Gibbs

Currently Reading: The Cheat Sheet by Sarah Adams

As I finish this Monday night, I have about 45 minutes left in The Cheat Sheet. I’ll probably finish it as I fall asleep. Unless something goes drastically awry, it will be another ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ book. These fun, light, summer reads are my favorite!

I am enjoying reading the 2024 Summer Beach Reads and excited to read a few more next month. My holds in Libby have been arriving like rapid fire this month so I am reading books as they come available. You can always checkout what I’ve been reading on my Books 2024 page. I have all of my yearly reading pages linked here if you want to see what I’ve been reading for the last 5 years. Have a great day full of sunshine and books!
